Melissa visited her parents again. She sat beside her father.

“Melissa, darling, look at this headline!” Mrs. Turner gushed, holding up her tablet.

Ethan Reed — the prodigal businessman returns! Reed Industries expands into the global tech market.

Melissa smiled, her red lips curving in satisfaction. “He always said he’d make it big. And he did.”

Mr. Turner chuckled. “Unlike that dreamer you married. What was his name again? Daniel?”

“Don’t remind me,” Melissa muttered. “He’s out of my life for good.” “ I do not have interest in him. As it stands, I am ready to get him divorced.” She replied.

“ You got it right, I have been meaning to ask you such. Get him divorced so you will live the rest of your life with Ethan.” Mr Turner said to her, taking off his eyeglasses.

Mrs. Turner patted her daughter’s hand. “And that’s exactly how it should be. Ethan is hosting a charity gala this weekend. He personally invited you.”

Melissa raised a brow. “Me?”

“ I was with him last yesterday, he didn't say such a thing to me.” She added.

Her parents looked at each other.

“ Maybe he wants to present it to you as a surprise, not like your husband Daniel, the God forsaken dreamer.” said Mrs. Turner.

Daniel drove in so fast, after reading from the headline.

“ Melissa, you have to cancel the appointment with Ethan.” She shouted.

Melissa looked at him and laughed.

“ When did you turned a barking dog.?” “ The last time I check you are just a puppy.” She insulted him. “ You have grown to a dog, to obstruct my decision.”

“ You can call me whatever you want. All I know is that you are going nowhere.”

Daniel was still speaking when Ethan drove in, conveyed.

“ Here comes the real man. The one who has won my heart” Melissa intimidating Daniel before.

Ethan stood on his tailor suit, his muscles showing up. And part of his chest unbuttoned.

“ Can we go?” He stretched hands to Melissa.

“ Yes we can.” She stepped out with him.

Daniel still does not believe this.

“ “ What are you doing here you bastard? Isn't it clear to you that she has followed her heart.?” Mrs Turner asked Daniel.

“ Point of corrections, she didn't follow her heart. I had known Melissa to be nice to me. Unknown to me that she will do this.”

“ You were never in the picture Daniel. Put it out of it.”

“ Your daughter must have been oriented by the both of you.”

Daniel leaves my house.” Turner pointed at the door.

“ You have no right to ask me so.*

“ Are you leaving or not.?”

Mrs. Turner asked him.

Daniel sighted Ethan and kissed Melissa on her forehead.

“ Nooooo,” Daniel fell to the ground, heartbroken.

The Charity Gala

The ballroom sparkled with chandeliers and champagne. Music swelled as guests in glittering gowns and designer suits danced beneath golden light.

Ethan Reed stood at the center — tall, confident, the very image of success. His dark hair slicked back, his posture commanding. Every camera turned to him.

When Melissa walked in, heads turned again. She looked breathtaking — a crimson dress that shimmered like fire, her beauty undeniable.

Ethan’s eyes found her instantly.

“Melissa Turner,” he said with a grin, striding toward her. “Still as stunning as ever.”

She smiled. “And you, Ethan, still as charming as ever.”

They shared a laugh — the kind of laughter that drew attention.

Mr. Turner and Mrs. Turner watched proudly from a corner, whispering among the guests.

“Such a perfect couple,” one woman said.

“They always belonged together,” another agreed.

Melissa didn’t correct them. She didn’t even hesitate when Ethan leaned closer.

“So,” Ethan said smoothly, “how’s your husband?”

Melissa smirked. “Nonexistent. He left.” Only to make mockery of Daniel.

Ethan raised a brow. “Left? You’re serious?”

“He couldn’t handle the pressure. He was… a disappointment.”

“ That should be his ghost I saw in your father's house. Hahahahahahaha.” He laughed. “ What a poor bastard.”

Ethan chuckled. “Then maybe it’s time you upgraded.”

And that night, under flashing lights and camera flashes, Melissa Turner smiled — not as a wife, but as a woman reborn into luxury and lies.

When Daniel finally revived, still worried about Melissa when a passerby showed Melissa and Ethan a live broadcast.

He saw them together — Ethan’s hand around Melissa’s waist, the world applauding.

His chest tightened, but his expression remained calm.

“So that’s how it is,” he whispered to himself.

He didn’t cry. He didn’t rage. He simply closed his eyes from the screen.

“ That's what a poor man like you deserves.” The passerby told him. “ She has gone for good.” He added, leaving Daniel in pain.

The next morning, he packed his few belongings and boarded a bus out of town — to a place where no one knew his name.

Melissa has already gotten a divorce papers. Fortunately for her, Daniel has left home for good.

“ The poor wretched husband has left.” She said to Ethan after searching the room.

“ Isn't it better.?” Ethan asked her, as he hugged Melissa.

“No letter, no notice. Daniel has left my life in peace.” She breathed down.

A year later…

The world had forgotten Daniel Cole.

But he hadn’t forgotten the world.

He has just found a little apartment for his research.

In a hidden research hub overseas, under a different name — Daniel Carter — he had spent every waking moment perfecting his invention.

His project, SolarGrid, was now complete — a self-sustaining renewable energy core that could power cities for decades.

And today… he was ready to present it.

The investors, a panel of global tech magnates, sat across the table.

When Daniel demonstrated the power output, silence filled the room — followed by stunned applause.

“Mr. Carter,” one of them said, “you’ve just changed the future of energy. We’d like to fund you — fully.”

Daniel bowed his head slightly. “Thank you, sir.”

But deep inside, another voice whispered:

They’ll all see. Every single one of them.

Back home…

“Have you heard of SolarGrid?” Ethan said one evening, flipping through a business magazine. “Some global genius developed it — Daniel Carter, I think. The guy’s about to become the youngest billionaire in history.”

Melissa frowned. “Daniel Carter? That name sounds—”

“Familiar?” Ethan laughed. “Yeah, maybe because every company in the world is trying to partner with him. Even Turner Industries wants in.”

Mr. Turner entered, adjusting his tie. “Yes. I just sent a proposal to his company. If we land this partnership, we’ll finally get back into the global tech circle.”

Mrs. Turner smiled proudly. “A partnership with a man like that would secure our name for decades.”

Melissa’s chest tightened. Daniel Carter… Daniel Cole… could it be?

No.

It couldn’t.

Could it?

A press conference — weeks later

The hall was filled with journalists and flashing cameras.

A massive banner behind the podium read: SolarGrid International — Global Expansion Partnership.

Melissa, Ethan, and her parents sat among the guests, waiting for the man of the hour to appear.

Then the lights dimmed.

The announcer’s voice echoed through the speakers:

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome — the CEO of SolarGrid International — Mr. Daniel Carter!”

The hall erupted in applause. Cameras flashed.

And then he walked in.

Tall. Composed. Radiating quiet power in a tailored black suit. His presence alone silenced the room.

Melissa’s breath caught.

She knew that face.

That voice.

That man.

Daniel Cole — the husband she always wished to be destroyed— stood before the world, now reborn as a global icon.

“Thank you for coming,” Daniel said, his voice calm and confident. “It’s an honor to welcome Turner Industries here today.”

Mr. Turner rose from his seat, forcing a smile. “Mr. Carter, it’s a pleasure—”

But Daniel’s eyes never left Melissa.

For a brief moment, the world seemed to fade away — and all that remained was the memory of betrayal and pain.

Then he smiled — cold, distant, and deliberate.

“Turner Industries,” he said slowly, “once rejected me when I had nothing. But today, I will decide who gets a seat at my table.”

The audience fell silent. Melissa’s heart pounded.

Ethan shifted uncomfortably beside her.

Daniel’s smile deepened.

“Unfortunately,” he said, his voice sharp as steel, “Turner Industries doesn’t qualify.”

And with that, he turned his back — walking away as the cameras exploded with flashes, the Turners frozen in shock.

Melissa’s hand t

rembled.

“Daniel…” she whispered, eyes glistening with disbelief.

But he didn’t look back.

He had already moved beyond her — beyond them all.

The man they rejected… had become the man they could never reach.

  • The unimaginable shock

When Melissa felt the deep, warm heartbreak spread through her chest, it was almost comforting in its familiarity. Pain had become a language she understood too well. She sat quietly on the edge of her bed, hands resting limply on her lap, eyes unfocused. The room was dim, curtains drawn, the city lights outside bleeding faintly through the cracks like wounded stars. Her breathing was shallow, controlled—too controlled for someone who felt like her heart had just been torn open again.Behind her, the door creaked.“I guess you’re thinking about Ethan,” Turner’s voice came, smooth and intrusive, like a blade sliding across glass. “The man whose wealth suddenly went viral. Not even the government has been able to track him down.”Melissa’s fingers curled slowly into fists.“Father,” she said without turning, her voice dangerously calm. “Spare me that. Do not mention his name before me. Not even his shadow. He is the last thing I want to hear.”Turner scoffed softly and stepped further i

  • The sudden affection

Ethan’s voice was low, almost pleading now, but the anger behind it made it dangerous.“Ethan, I don’t know where you have gotten your wealth,” Melissa said firmly, pulling her wrist back as if his presence alone stained her skin. “All I want from you is to step aside from anything that has to do with my life. I don’t love you anymore, and I’m not ready to do that at any time.”For a moment, the street seemed too quiet. The city lights still shone, cars still passed, but between them, it felt like the world paused.Ethan’s jaw tightened.“What do you want from me, Melissa?” he demanded, his voice rising with desperation. “Name your price, and I will give it to you. If that is enough to win your heart back to me.”Melissa’s lips curled, not in amusement but in disbelief.“Did I just hear you say I should name my price?” she asked slowly, each word sharp like glass. “When your money runs in billions, yet you are unable to pay off your debt.”The words struck him directly where it hurt.

Money does.”The man swallowed.“You paid for the entire penthouse in cash. For three months.”Ethan leaned back.“Then you should be thanking me.”“Yes, sir. Of course.” The man hesitated. “But… the news—”Ethan’s smile faded.“You talk too much.”The man quickly raised his hands.“No, no, I didn’t mean—”Ethan cut him off.“Bring me what I asked for. Clothes. Watches. Cars.”The man nodded fast.“Immediately, sir.”When he left,
