Betrayed

The car finally came to a halt at the entrance of the mansion, but neither Davis nor Kate would come down. Rylan and Sophia could tell that they were having a serious discussion, even though they couldn’t hear a word. Rylan walked closer to the car hitting the window intensely. “Kate, Kate I need to speak with you please.” He begged, hoping inwardly that, she would tell him Sophia was lying.

A few minutes later, Kate alighted from the vehicle, along with Davis and a 10 year old boy. The moment Rylan saw the boy, he rushed towards him, hugging him tightly, “Oh My son, Daddy is back. Daddy is here.”

“Get away from my son you murderer.” Davis shouted angrily, pushing Rylan away forcefully that, he ended up on the floor with a loud thud.

“What are you two doing in my house? Who let this church rats into this neighborhood?” Kate said mockingly, walking towards Sophia who was trying to help Rylan stand up. “I see you are stubborn Sophia, I warned you never to show yourself anywhere I am, but you don’t listen.”

“You don’t scare me Kate, all I want is justice. Because of you, I lost my son who meant the world to me. You refused to”

“Oh shut up please. You keep blaming me for your stupid son’s death when I am clearly innocent.” Kate shouted with a look of disgust on her face, walking back to car. She opened the door, took out a bundle of money from her purse and threw it on Sophia in a blink of an eye. “There it is, all the money I owe you. Get lost now!”

“You think money settles it? It’s too late to pay back the money you owe me.” Sophia said, looking fiercely at her with her eyes already reddened.

“I don’t care really. You can go to hell. Why not join your son, instead of suffering?”

“Kate, this is my son right? Tell me you are not married to Davis.” Rylan said with a loud voice, interrupting their conversation while fixating his eyes on Kate.

He began walking towards her with his eyes getting teary. Before he could get close to her, Davis immediately stretched out his hand, giving him a heavy punch on his face that sent him to the ground again. “Don’t dare come close to my wife”

“Yay! Daddy is so strong” Ten years old Jordan shouted in excitement, enjoying the scene.

“Rylan, I’m going to allow you go because you are my brother, don’t ever show yourself in my house again or around any of my family, else consider yourself a corpse.” Davis threatened, sliding his hand around Kate’s waist as he pulled her closer to him. “You too Sophia or whatever your name is.”

“But, he is my son. Kate you told me you were pregnant, you loved me. What’s going on please? Can someone explain to me?” Rylan said, crying like a child who had just been denied candy.

“Let’s go Rylan, we will surely take our revenge.” Sophia said to him, trying to lift him up from the ground but he wouldn’t comply. “Rylan, it’s okay. Let’s go”

“No, I’m not leaving until one of them explains to me. I will cause a scene here.” Rylan shouted on top of his voice, pushing Sophia away. “Where is my share of the money Davis? The jackpot I won, where is my 60 percent we agreed on?”

Davis burst out in laughter, moving closer to his brother, “Oh Rylan, you are so dumb and innocent that, you still don’t understand what went on ten years ago and what is going on now.” He said. “Who let you out of jail when I didn’t authorize it?”

“What do you mean?” Rylan asked, slowly rising up to his feet.

“I mean, I sent to you to prison and should decide when you are released.” Davis responded smiling profusely, enjoying the reaction on Rylan’s face. “I never thought this day would come, but it finally did and I feel free now that you know the truth.

“You mean, you killed Janet?” Rylan asked, pointing his finger at Davis while staring at him in shock. His mouth was left agape and he stood motionlessly, completely speechless as memories of how he was charged for murder flooded his head.

“Janet? Is that he real name and is she really dead? That should be the question.” Davis replied, moving backwards, until his back was resting on the car. He took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up. “This is going to be interesting. Babe, take our son inside he must be hungry.”

“All right love, I trust you to deal with these things well. They should know their place now, we aren’t in the same level or class anymore. Make it clear to them.” Kate said, grabbing Jordan’s wrist gently with a smile on her face as they walked towards the mansion.

“Kate, Kate I still love you. How could you do this to me? While in prison I kept thinking about you. How could you?” Rylan screamed, trying to run towards her but was stopped by the security men who held him down, dragging him to Davis. “Let go of me, Let me go!” He shouted continuously, struggling to free himself from their tight grasps, until Davis signaled his men to leave him. “Davis, how could you marry my woman and claim my child?”

“Jordan isn’t yours okay, get that straight. You thought you were in a relationship with Kate? No, it was all a plan to use you. How did you think I was feeding and paying my bills back then when I had no job?”

“What do you mean” Rylan asked in confusion, wiping the tears off his face.

“The money Kate continuously collects from you, for her father hospital bills, she was giving them all to me. She never had a sick father; she is just an orphan from the street.” Davis said with a mocking look on his face, exhaling a plume of cigarette smoke directly at him. “When you got that new job that was paying you enough to cater for your needs, wasn’t it the same time you met Kate after I invited you to celebrate at the club?” He said with his tone laced with ridicule.

“You are kidding me right? Kate loves me, she told me that every day and she proved it to me.” Rylan responded in a low strained tone; his voice filled with hurt and anger he didn’t know how to let out.

“Don’t be dumb brother. My anger grew when you won that jackpot and decide to give me forty percent instead of fifty percent and so”

“You killed the so called Janet and set me up as the murderer?” Rylan asked, with his head facing the ground in disappointment. His heart was heavy and filled with anger but he didn’t know how to let it out. “How could you do this to me Davis? I loved and respected you as my elder brother, regardless of what people said.”

“It survival of the fitness kid, I hope you learnt that now. You are so lucky to have gotten out of jail, I wanted you to die there, I should have arrange with some men in the prison to kill you long enough.” Davis said with all seriousness and hatred.

“You made me fall in love with your girlfriend, so I could be giving her my hard earned money which she always gives to you. Davis, you stole my money because I told you everything about it; I always thought of it as a win for us, but I was wrong. Then you killed someone I don’t know and set me up, calling the police and portraying me as the killer, in order for me to rot in jail while you enjoy my money.” He said.

Slowly, he began to move towards Davis with his eyes blazed with anger; the betrayal burning within like wild fire. “Are you done? Is there anything else you would like to tell me?” He said, standing in front of him, glaring at his brother intensely.

“Yes! The exciting part is that, Janet isn’t dead. As a matter of fact, she was paid to act and was also involved in ruining you.” He responded with a smile on his face, which was only infuriating to Rylan.

“Oh really, I would love to meet her and thank her in person for making me spend ten years in prison.” Rylan responded with tears streaming down his cheek; he has had enough.

“Oh! She is here with us. Sophia, come forward.”
