  Rylan was speechless for a few minute, he stared at Sophia but words failed him. Different thoughts ran through his head as he pondered on what he did to deserve such betrayal from his blood brother, his supposed girlfriend and this stranger he met a few hours ago.

“I promise you Davis, I won’t let this betrayal slide. I won’t spare any of you including you Sophia. You will all pay dearly.” Rylan said with pain moving away slowly with his eyes still fixated on Davis.

“You can’t do anything. You are just a poor, good for nothing homeless man now. Nobody will help or give you a job; the whole town now sees you as a murderer. Please leave now, I wouldn’t want my friends or neighbors to see you here. It would be embarrassing.” Davis told him rudely, preparing to walk into his mansion.

“Justice will be served.” Rylan responded, wiping the tears off his face with the back of his right hand.

“Seems like you haven’t heard, I have enough power and connections now. In a blink of an eye I can send you bank to jail.”

“Should I be scared?” Rylan asked, looking away as he slide his hands into his pocket.

“It depends on if you take my advice or not. If you are thinking of reporting to the police, I did advice you not to. You would be nothing, but a loser.

“We will see about that Davis, thank you for everything.” He said to him, turning slowly to leave.

“Least I forget, your best friend Alexander, helped me in seeing to your downfall and I’m so grateful he did.” Davis said, walking into the mansion with a smile, curled up by the side of his face. Suddenly, He stopped and turned his head backwards, “Rylan, it feels so good to finally let out the truth. Thank you for coming here, I hope we don’t see any more.”

Rylan said no words as he began to leave. “I need to find a place to sleep for the night.” He said to himself inwardly, reflecting on Davis words which were slowly beginning to have effect on him. “Am I really poor? Will I die a poor man, what will become of me now? Everyone see now sees me as a murderer, my love one betrayed me. Who will help me now? I’m doomed”

“Rylan, Rylan hold up please. You have to listen to me.” Sophia shouted, walking behind him, but it only made him increase his pace. “Please, hear me out. I need to apologize for what I did to you.” She begged, walking faster to meet up with him.

“Tch, take your apologies somewhere else. I don’t need them.” Rylan responded rudely.

“Please, I didn’t know you were the one. I only did it for money which was supposed to be my son’s hospital bill, but I never got paid, which led to the death of my son. I never knew”

“Oh please shut up!” He yelled; his footsteps ceasing abruptly. ”You deserve whatever you got. Don’t say a word to me ever again, your apologies wouldn’t bring back the years I spent in prison, nor would it bring back your dead son.” He shouted and walked away immediately, leaving Sophia behind.

Rylan walked for minutes with no destination, he had nowhere to sleep for the night. The little money he was left with wasn’t enough to get him dinner, not to mention paying for a room in a hotel. He was devastated. “What would I do now?’ He asked aloud in frustration.

After walking a long distance, he was famished. Few minutes later, he came across a stall selling street foods, he decided to try his luck and plead with the woman to give him little portion of food with the money he had.

“Good day ma, please I need some food.” Rylan said, praying inwardly that the woman will help him.

“Does this place look like charity? I don’t give free food here. If you want to eat, then you need to work.” She responded rudely, looking away immediately while the few people around who heard laughed out loud, mumbling inaudible words.

“Isn’t that the murderer from ten years ago, how come he has been released?” He heard an elderly woman passing by say, causing more heads to turn towards him.

“Please ma, do you have any work I can do? I’m in need of a job.” He said immediately, fixating his eyes on the spectacular dishes the woman had, which made him hungrier.

“Please get lost, get away so I can attend to other valuable people.” She said, rolling her eyes at him.

Rylan walked away immediately. “I will rather die of hunger than ask anyone for food again.” He said to himself with his eyes getting moist as he struggled to fight the tears threatening to drop. “I can’t be seen crying on the street.” He muttered to himself, facing his head towards the ground.

“That’s the murderer, you were right.” He heard a feminine voice say.

“Walking on the street was really a wrong idea. After ten years an all these people still remember? May be I should just end it all. There is point in suffering, nobody is going to believe me, neither is anyone going to help me. I don’t have what it takes to make everyone that made me suffer pay for the crimes they committed. I will remain a laughing stock and die of poverty.” He said to himself inwardly, walking towards the highway without looking.

“What is that beggar about to do?” A girl who saw him asked aloud, but nobody seemed to be concerned or care.

“Let him die, he deserves it. Karma is real.” The owner of the stall where Rylan earlier went to beg for food told the people around her and they all laughed out mockingly.

In a blink of an eye, Rylan was standing dashed into the road without thinking, accepting death as his fate as the speeding vehicle bore down on him. An oncoming vehicle, moving with full speed was approaching and didn’t notice the human figure which had just appeared on the road. By the time he did, it was too late. Before he could hit his brake to stop the car, Rylan was struck with a sickening thud, causing his body to be thrown into the air.

The vehicle immediately came to a halt, the drivers face was etched in shock as he stared at the lifeless body on the ground. “What have I done? Did I just kill someone?” He asked aloud placing his hand on his head.

Other vehicles stopped and people began rushing towards Rylan. “Is he dead?” Many asked.

“Someone, call 911.” A woman in her late fifties screamed with a shaky voice.

That moment, an elderly man in his late sixties emerged from the sleek, luxurious vehicle which had just hit Rylan, the accident scene unfolding around him as he watched with pity, hoping that the young man wo had just been hit was still alive. “If only I didn’t pester my driver to speed up, all these would have been avoided.” He muttered to himself, walking towards the driver.

“What do we do? I need to get to the hospital to see my son.” He whispered in the driver’s ear.

“I don’t know sir, should we take him along? We don’t know when the ambulance would get here. We can’t delay any further.

The man phone beam loudly, he immediately took it out. “It’s the doctor.” He said to the driver with his heart racing fast. Fear was evident on his face and he answered the call, slowly putting the phone on his ear.

“Hello Mr. Brian, are you close to the hospital? Your son hm”

“What happened to my son? Where is he now?” He shouted, praying not to hear the words he feared the most.

“He just passed away, I’m sorry.” The doctor said calmly and ended the call.

“What will I do now? Who will take care of my properties and companies when I die? My only child is dead.” He said aloud in pains with hot tears dripping down his face, as his driver tried to console him.

An ambulance finally arrived, taking Rylan to the hospital. “Let’s follow them, we need to make sure the boy is fine.” Mr. Brian said to his driver.

“How about your son?” The driver asked.

“Follow the ambulance.” He responded immediately, getting into his car. “If this young man stays alive, I will give him a new life.

“A new life? That’s not going to be possible. Your rivals already know your son, you won’t be able to win with your son dead.” The driver said to his boss with concern.

“The ambulance is heading to my hospital if I’m not mistaking. Watch the miracle happen.” Mr. Brian said, wiping the tears off his cheek.
