Midnight came, and the village was entirely dead silent. The only sound echoing through the empty, darkened streets was the rhythmic crunch of Peter and Hiron’s boots beating against the packed dirt.

"Why did you change the plan back at the house?" Peter asked in a low whisper, his eyes scanning the pitch-black alleyways.

"I wanted to check something out first," Hiron replied, his hand resting casually on the handle of his massive double-edged axe. "If the villagers went missing, it must have happened when they were completely alone. Whatever came over them captured them without raising an alarm."

"So, what does that mean?" Peter asked, his posture tensing.

"It means the creature has a deliberate method of knowing whenever someone is isolated. To put it simply... we might be stepping directly onto the enemy's trap right now. And it likely already knows we are here."

"Hmm... great point," Peter muttered, a sharp grin cutting through his caution. "But how do we find it?"

"We don't need to," Hiron countered smoothly. "It will come to us."

"I hope your hunch works," Peter said.

The two Pantheon Warriors walked through the maze-like streets for what felt like hours. Eventually, the air grew noticeably colder, and they stepped into a thick, unnatural mist that heavily blocked their vision. Sensing immediate danger, both men prepared themselves instantly. With minds tightly focused and hands resting on their weapons, they stood back-to-back, anchoring each other's blind spots.

Then, a massive, towering figure materialized from the fog.

The creature stood nearly twelve feet tall, its monstrous shadow casting a dark shroud across the dirt road. From the waist up, it resembled a twisted mockery of a human man. Pale gray skin was stretched tightly over a lean, muscular frame, revealing veins as dark as spilled ink crawling beneath the flesh. Long, tangled strands of black hair hung over its shoulders like a funeral veil, swaying unnaturally even though the midnight wind had gone entirely still.

Its face was an absolute nightmare. Where two eyes should have been, there were eight. Four pairs of deep crimson eyes were arranged across its face in chilling symmetry, each glowing faintly in the darkness. They moved completely independently, scanning every corner of the surroundings without ever blinking. Looking into them felt inherently wrong—as though each individual eye were peering directly into a separate, fractured part of a person's soul.

The demon's mouth stretched far wider than any human capability, filled with rows of needle-like fangs that overlapped like the teeth of an apex predator. Thin strands of acidic saliva dripped between its jaws, hissing softly whenever they touched the dirt.

"I have been waiting for you," the demon hissed, its voice layered and scraping. "I have been so bored with the weak food in this place. I was hoping for some choice meat to play with."

"What have you done with the villagers?" Peter demanded, drawing his blade.

"I see you didn't understand my words," the demon laughed, a grating sound. "Let me be entirely clear... I played a little with them. I enjoyed every single bit of their screams as I tore them apart, piece by piece. It was just fantastic."

Hiron’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on his weapon. "Let's eliminate this abomination from hell."

"You don't have to tell me twice," Peter replied.

The two men stood perfectly still for a split second before unleashing their power. Two vibrant surges of energy exploded outward, lighting up the mist. Hiron’s active Presence flared a deep, stoic purple, while Peter’s ignited in a brilliant, erratic blue.

They charged simultaneously. Peter vaulted into the air, drawing his sword as the blade began to hum with the early sparks of his elemental essence. Meanwhile, Hiron dashed forward, lifting his heavy double-edged axe and slamming it violently into the ground. A massive, purple kinetic shield projection materialized out of thin air, hammering directly into the demon and knocking the massive beast off its footing.

Capitalizing on the opening, Peter descended from above, landing a clean, devastating strike that sliced deep into one of the monster's spider-like legs. The demon shrieked, swinging another massive leg downward to stomp Peter into the earth. But before the chitinous limb could crush him, a blinding surge of blue lightning blurred across the street. Peter moved like a flash, striking the incoming limb and severing it completely.

Hiron didn't relent. He slammed his axe into the ground once more, sending a powerful shockwave of kinetic energy ripping through the dirt. The force slammed into the spider-demon’s chest, violently knocking the twelve-foot beast flat onto its back.

Seeing the perfect opening, Peter raised his blade and sprinted from behind, ready to decapitate the monster. But something invisible and incredibly fast wrapped around his ankle. With a violent jerk, he was dragged backward through the air, crashing hard through the wooden tiles of a nearby rooftop.

At the exact same time, a heavy strike smashed into Hiron’s guard, sending him flying a few feet away into the debris.

The demon slowly rose back to its feet. To the warriors' horror, the severed legs and deep lacerations began to bubble and fuse, regenerating entirely within seconds as if the damage had been nothing.

"I’m gonna enjoy this a lot more than I thought," the demon sneered. "Get ready."

A cluster of thick, dark webs erupted from the spinnerets on its back, shooting toward Hiron like harpoons. Hiron threw himself into a roll, sprint-dodging across the dirt as the webs pulverized the ground behind him. Peter erupted from the ruined rooftop, channeling his speed to evade the rapid-fire web attacks targeting him from below.

Both men leaped across the neighboring roofs, staying entirely on the move.

"Keep moving forward!" Hiron shouted over the chaos. "I’ll force an opening for you, and you strike!"

"I've got your back! Let's finish this!" Peter replied.

Charging forward, their burning Presences flaring brighter and hotter, they bypassed the crumbling architecture. The spider-demon fired a massive wall of webbing directly at Peter. Just as the trap was about to ensnare him, Peter leaped high into the air. Below him, Hiron materialized a flat shield projection mid-air, giving Peter a solid platform to bounce off of and propel himself even higher into the sky.

With Peter positioned perfectly above, Hiron focused his mind. He conjured two massive, parallel shield projections—one directly underneath the spider-demon and one hovering right above it. With a fierce clench of his fist, he slammed them together, crushing the demon between the kinetic walls.

To maximize the damage, Hiron formed two more localized shield projections in front of him, lining them up like an energy barrel, and struck his axe against them with everything he had.

"Echo impact!" Hiron roared.

A devastating blast of compressed kinetic energy erupted forward, shattering the barriers and slamming into the pinned spider-demon. The force of the impact triggered a massive explosion of dust, dirt, and debris, completely blinding the battlefield.

From the heart of the dust cloud, a blinding streak of blue lightning cut through the dark. Peter was moving faster than the human eye could register, his entire body coated in a raging electrical current. Tightening both hands around the hilt of his sword, he channeled every ounce of his remaining essence into the steel. The blade erupted with a deafening hum, casting a brilliant blue light across the entire village square.

"calm storm!" Peter bellowed.

He brought his blade down in a devastating arc. A massive bolt of thunder accompanied the strike, slamming directly onto the body of the spider-demon. A violent burst of energy rippled through the street, fracturing the surrounding walls, shattering glass, and sending a thunderous boom echoing into the night sky.

Moments later, the chaos subsided. Peter and Hiron stood side-by-side, breathing heavily as the thick shroud of dust slowly began to settle around them.

"Did we get him?" Peter asked, lowering his steaming blade slightly.

"Yeah... I think we did," Hiron replied, his purple aura flickering from the exhaustion.

But as they scanned the crater, a sickening, wet sound of snapping bones and twisting flesh began to echo through the clearing. The noise grew louder and more frantic with every passing second.

"I don't think it's over yet," Hiron warned, instantly dropping back into a defensive stance.

Suddenly, the entire village fell dead silent. Before Peter could even react, a localized shockwave slammed into his chest. A foot connected with his ribs, sending him rocketing through the air and crashing brutally into a stone wall.

An instant later, a thick strand of webbing wrapped tightly around Hiron’s leg. With terrifying physical strength, the web yanked him into the air, slamming him face-first into the dirt before swinging him violently into the same broken wall next to Peter.

From the dissipating dust, the monster walked out.

It was no longer a lumbering, twelve-foot beast. The demon had completely compressed its form. It was now the exact height of a human, but it possessed four muscular, gray-skinned arms, and its eight crimson eyes burned with a concentrated, suffocating malice.

"This really is fun," the compressed demon purred, stepping casually over the rubble toward the dazed warriors. "But it’s finally time to enjoy my food."

Peter and Hiron tried desperately to push themselves up and regain their footing, but the demon rapidly thrust its four hands forward. Thick, reinforced strands of webbing shot out, pinning both Pantheon Warriors flat against the stone wall, binding their arms and torsos tightly.

Both men struggled against the restraints, channeling their remaining Presence, but the webs were unnaturally dense and completely absorbed their spiritual energy.

"It's no use," the demon mocked, baring its needle-like fangs as it closed the distance. "Just accept your fate and die."

"Where is my daughter?!"

A desperate, shaking voice suddenly echoed from the far end of the misty street.

The demon paused. Peter and Hiron strained their necks to look. Standing at the edge of the clearing, holding a flickering lantern with a trembling hand, was the old man from the cabin.

"Run away!" Peter screamed through his teeth, trying to break his arms free. "Get out of here, it's too dangerous!"

The old man ignored the warning, his tear-filled eyes locked entirely on the four-armed monster.

"I have met my side of the bargain!" the old man shouted, his voice cracking with immense guilt and terror. "Where is my daughter?! I lured the people to you just like you asked... you promised you would release her if I brought you more souls!"

"What? But... I haven't even mastered spiritual energy yet!""Let me finish, boy," Lazarus said, his voice raising just enough to cut him off. "Your training is done *here*, but it isn't finished yet.
