Aster Vale opened his eyes, greeted by a cracked, moldy stone ceiling. The air in the room smelled of ancient dust, charred herbal potions, and the desperation of a destitute student.

He groaned softly, massaging his throbbing temples. Memories that weren't his flooded his brain mercilessly, colliding with his original consciousness until he nearly vomited.

Aster Vale. A firstyear student at Aethelgard Magic Academy. Majoring in Crafting and Potions. An orphan from a border village who had entered this prestigious academy solely on a pity scholarship.

And more importantly: he was an extra. A nameless background character. Cannon fodder destined for a ridiculous death in Chapter 3 of the novel Aethelgard Chronicles, which he had just finished reading in his original world the night before.

Aster rose from his hard bed, staring at the cracked silver mirror in the corner of the room. The reflection showed a young man with messy black hair and ordinary brown eyes. A face no one would remember. A face easy to forget after dying.

"Tomorrow morning," Aster whispered to his own reflection, his voice raspy and trembling. "The coffee spill incident in the cafeteria."

In the original novel, tomorrow morning was the academy's third day. The protagonist, Kaelen Drago—who couldn't yet control his explosive mana—would be sitting alone in the cafeteria. Aster—the unlucky extra—would slip, spill hot coffee on Kaelen’s expensive uniform, and the startled protagonist would reflexively release a wave of defensive mana.

The result? Aster would be scorched to ash in the blink of an eye. A ridiculous death used by the author solely to show how dangerous Kaelen's power was early in the story. No one would mourn. No one would remember his name.

Aster swallowed hard, tasting metal on his tongue. He didn't want to be ash. He didn't want to die just to serve as a stepping stone for the protagonist’s character development.

However, avoiding the coffee incident was merely a temporary solution. Even if he survived tomorrow morning, he was still slated to die in Chapter 50.

"The Abyss Wave," Aster muttered, his eyes narrowing sharply.

In Chapter 50 of the original novel, a dimensional rift would open beneath the academy, spewing out thousands of Abyss monsters that would slaughter half the student body. Nobles with highlevel protective artifacts would survive. But common students like Aster? They would be appetizers for those monsters.

Aster paced his cramped room, his brain spinning frantically in search of an exit. He needed a protective artifact. Something that could withstand catastrophic physical and magical attacks. And he knew exactly where that artifact was.

"The Cracked Stone," Aster whispered, stopping at the window to stare at the academy’s distant clock tower. "The fossilized scale of an Earth Dragon’s heart."

In the original plot, in Chapter 5—three days from now—a minor antagonist named Valerius would go to the academy's underground black market. He would buy a cracked black stone for a pittance, mistaking it for decorative trash. Yet, in Chapter 80, the stone was revealed to be an absolute protective artifact capable of repelling all forms of destructive mana. Valerius used it to survive the Abyss Wave, while hundreds of common students died gruesome deaths.

"If I want to live, I have to snatch that stone from Valerius before he goes to the black market," Aster thought coldly, staring at his reflection in the window glass. "I must get to the black market first, find that stone, and buy it."

However, there was one major problem.

Aster opened his wobbly wooden desk drawer and pulled out a small cloth pouch. He opened it and poured the contents onto the table.

Three silver coins and a few copper coins. His total personal wealth in this world.

"The black market doesn't accept silver coins," Aster muttered in frustration, rubbing his temples. "That stone, even if considered trash by Valerius, will still be priced at a minimum of five gold coins by antique dealers. I need five gold coins, and I only have enough money to buy hard bread for two weeks."

He couldn't borrow money. His roommate, Toby, despite coming from a family of merchants, always spent his allowance on food and never had any savings. Aster couldn't sell any valuables either, because he didn't have any.

"I have to make something to sell," Aster thought, his eyes sweeping across the messy room. "Something I can sell for a high price at the black market."

The room door suddenly swung open with a loud creak. A chubby young man with messy blonde hair walked in, carrying two paper bags filled with sweet bread.

"You're awake, Aster?" Toby asked with a wide grin, tossing one paper bag toward Aster. "I bought breakfast from the shop in front of the gate. Southernstyle honey bread, still warm."

Aster caught the paper bag by reflex. "Thanks, Toby."

Toby sat on his own messy bed, devouring his bread greedily. "You look very pale. Are you sick? Tomorrow morning the academy cafeteria is serving a special menu to welcome the new students. Black coffee from southern beans and meat toast. We have to go early so we don't run out of seats."

Hearing the words 'cafeteria' and 'coffee,' Aster choked on his own bread. He coughed violently, pounding his chest repeatedly to force the food down.

I just thought of a way to avoid that coffee, and you go and remind me! Aster thought in a panic.

"I... I'm fine," Aster replied after taking a sip of water, his eyes watering from choking. "Toby, tomorrow morning I won't be going to the cafeteria."

Toby frowned, confused. "Why? You always say you look forward to the free food from the academy because our allowance is so limited."

"I... am fasting. Yes, a sacred tradition from my village. I won't eat or drink outside this room tomorrow morning until the sun is directly overhead," Aster lied with a straight face.

"A very strange tradition," Toby muttered, shrugging his shoulders indifferently and returning to his food. "Fine then. I'll wrap up some bread for you if you change your mind."

After Toby finished eating and went to the bathroom to get ready for his theory class, Aster leaned back against his wooden chair. He closed his eyes, trying to calm his wildly spinning mind.

His survival plan was set:

Tomorrow morning: Avoid the cafeteria, destroy the coffeespill death flag.

Tomorrow night: Go to the black market, find the Cracked Stone, and buy it before Valerius arrives.

The problem: How to get five gold coins in two days?

Aster opened his eyes, staring at the pile of junk in the corner of the room. Scrap metal pieces, weathered wood, cracked glass bottles, and fabric scraps he’d scavenged from the bin behind the craft workshop. His initial intention was to use these free materials for academy assignments so he wouldn't have to buy expensive ingredients.

"Maybe I can make something from this trash and sell it as... handicrafts?" Aster muttered doubtfully. "Or simple household tools? Nail clippers, combs, or coasters?"

He didn't expect to sell those items for a high price. However, if he could sell a few dozen for cheap, maybe he could collect five gold coins in two days.

But, as if the universe had heard his plea and decided to offer him a much crazier solution, a cold, emotionless, mechanical voice suddenly echoed inside his head.

Aster froze in his seat. His eyes widened as he stared into the empty space in front of him, his breathing hitching for a second.

[Crafting & Potions System (Error Version) has been successfully activated.]

[Welcome, User. Please create your first piece of junk to start the tutorial.]

A semitransparent, pale blue screen appeared before his eyes, flickering unstably like a broken old television set. Red and green static lines crawled across the surface of the screen, accompanied by an earpiercing buzzing sound.

Aster stared at the screen with mixed feelings of soaring hope and deep suspicion.

He had a system. That was good news. With this system, he might be able to create highquality goods to sell and earn the five gold coins he needed.

However, the system was bugged, and worse yet, it was hiding from the "World Law" that viewed it as a virus. That was very, very bad news.

"I don't need a perfect system," Aster whispered, staring at the wildly flickering screen with the sharp gaze of a merchant betting his final capital. "I just need something I can sell for a high price at the black market. Give me anything you can make from the trash in this room."

He turned toward the pile of junk in the corner, an idea beginning to form in his head.

"I'll make nail clippers," Aster muttered, picking up a piece of scrap metal and a small spring from his desk drawer. "A simple tool that everyone surely needs. If I can make it with high quality, I can definitely sell it for a decent price."

Aster didn't know that his decision to make "simple nail clippers" would be the beginning of a series of misunderstandings that would shake the entire Aethelgard Academy, and turn him into a feared legend in the underworld.

The Grand Arena of Aethelgard Academy fell silent, but it was not a peaceful quiet. It was a suffocating stillness filled with black smoke still drifting up from the charred bodies of the Valdris soldiers. Amidst the lava craters and the remnants of melted steel shields, only a single figure remained standing, though his posture was unsteady and covered in electrical burns.Viktor Ironforge. He knelt on the cracked ground, his breathing ragged like a steam engine running out of fuel. His iron helmet was dented in several spots, and through the slit of his visor, a pair of eyes showed no trace of clarity or military strategy. Those eyes were red, wild, and vacant. His mind had collapsed under the weight of an absurd defeat. His comrades were down not because they lost a fair fight, but because of impossible accidents. His spear had been deflected. His lightning storm had reversed direction. To Viktor, this was not a normal defeat. It was a cosmic conspiracy. And his primitive instincts

  • Chapter 118: Panic of Team Ironforge

Goran's death had not yet been fully processed by the collective consciousness of the crowd when Viktor Ironforge let out a bone-rattling roar of rage. His face, hidden behind his black iron helmet, radiated a dense crimson aura so intense that the surrounding air vibrated. He no longer cared about strategy. He no longer cared about formations. The only thing remaining in his mind was total annihilation."I will burn you all to ashes!" Viktor screamed, his voice echoing like trapped thunder inside a cave.He drove the Ironforge War Spear into the ground with full force. Fissures radiated outward from the point of impact, spreading rapidly across the entire arena floor. From the cracks, glowing red light flared up, illuminating the pale faces of the remaining Valdris soldiers. The sky above the arena turned into a pitch-black canvas. The storm clouds that had been concentrated over a single point expanded to cover the entire stadium roof. Red lightning bolts no longer struck individual

  • Chapter 117: The Deflected Lightning

The air in the Grand Arena felt so thick it could practically be cut with a knife. The pungent smell of ozone mixed with the scent of melting granite, creating a suffocating, hellish atmosphere. Viktor Ironforge stood at the edge of the fresh lava crater, his breathing heavy and ragged, yet his eyes blazed with a fury never seen before. He could not comprehend what was happening. Every one of his attacks, every single one of his military tactical calculations, kept getting thwarted by absurd, trivial things: wind suddenly shifting direction, ground collapsing for no reason, or blinding sunlight striking at the exact critical moment. To Viktor, this was no longer a battle. It was a cosmic insult."You think you can escape the destiny of Valdris?" Viktor roared, his voice echoing against the stadium walls, which were dead silent with fear. He gripped his Ironforge War Spear with both hands. The tip of the spear was still glowing blood-red, gathering the remaining unused storm energy. Th

  • Chapter 116: The Gust of Fate

Aster Vale let out a long sigh, a sound resembling steam escaping an old kettle. Sweat still dripped from his chin, falling onto his box of fried rice, which had now turned into a shapeless, sticky clump. He glared at the clumping grains of rice with pure hatred, as if they were personal enemies trying to derail his meal plan."It is so hot," he complained softly, more to himself than to anyone around him.Beside him, Professor Balthazar was still trembling, his eyes glued to the arena where a second blood-red lightning orb was taking shape at the tip of Viktor's spear. The energy was so overwhelming that the fine hairs on Balthazar's arms stood straight up. "Master Aster! That is an apocalypse-level attack! If it hits them, nothing will be left! We must call the guards! We must—""Silence," Aster cut him off without looking over. He raised his right hand, tightly holding the Bamboo Hand Fan he had pulled from his bag. The fan looked pitiful: its frame was cracked, its woven palm leav

  • Chapter 115: Packed Lunch and Sweltering Heat

Amidst the chaos enveloping the arena—where red lightning still flashed across the black sky, a lava crater hissed on the granite floor, and three Aethelgard students struggled against impending death—the atmosphere in the VIP stands was dominated by a far more trivial yet equally critical issue: culinary quality.Aster Vale sat stiffly in his red velvet chair. On his lap rested a simple teak lunchbox he had brought with him that morning. Inside was his custom-made special fried rice, crafted from premium unsold ingredients left over from the night market, mixed with salted duck egg and slices of dried beef as tough as shoe leather. To Aster, this was not merely food; it was maximum caloric efficiency achieved at minimum production cost. However, his surroundings were conspiring to ruin his meal. The thunderstorm summoned by Viktor's Ironforge War Spear did not only bring the threat of death to the fighters below, but it also drastically altered the entire stadium's microclimate.
