Jaxon couldn’t believe his ears. Become the son-in-law of the Greyson family, one of the most powerful families in the country?
He blinked, certain he’d misheard, then looked across the desk at the older man. “Why me?” he asked quietly. “There are hundreds of men more qualified than I am. Why choose me?” Felix, the older man, smirked and crossed one leg over the other. “You should be lucky you were picked. It isn’t hard work—and you’ll earn more than you can imagine. All you have to do is marry the daughter of the family.” He said it so casually, as if marrying into one of the richest dynasties in the country were nothing. “I’m only twenty-two,” Jaxon muttered, torn between disbelief and exhaustion. He stood up, confused. “Mr. Jaxon,” Felix said calmly, “I understand this must be overwhelming. But think of the bright side. As the Greyson son-in-law, you’ll be entitled to their wealth. You’ll also work as an executive in their company. You’ll live a life people can only dream of.” Felix reached into his briefcase, pulling out a crisp document and a pen from his suit pocket. “I heard about your situation. Your father and brother are both hospitalized, right? Let’s start with ten million dollars—just for agreeing to marry into the family and signing this document.” Jaxon’s eyes widened. “Ten… million?” Felix chuckled. “What about fifteen? No—make it twenty million.” Twenty million dollars? Jaxon’s breath caught. Why was this man so desperate for him to marry into the Greyson family? Something didn’t feel right. Still, the weight of his family’s suffering pressed against his chest. “What exactly do I have to do?” Jaxon asked. “And why me?” Felix’s smile deepened. “You’ll know the reason once you arrive at the Greyson estate. For now, all you need to do is play your role as the family’s son-in-law. In return, we’ll make sure your father and brother receive the best medical care possible.” Jaxon lowered his gaze, mind racing. Was he about to trap himself in something he couldn’t escape? Maybe. But for his family’s sake, he would take the risk. Felix sweetened the deal. “You’ll be paid a billion dollars monthly, have cars, servants, private trips—anything you can imagine. It’s the life of royalty.” A lump formed in Jaxon’s throat. He took a deep breath, then raised his head. “I’ll sign.” The corners of Felix’s mouth lifted in a quiet smile of victory. He slid the contract forward. Jaxon read it line by line—nothing unusual, just conditions about acting publicly as the Greyson family’s son-in-law. He took the pen and signed. “Very good,” Felix said, standing. “You made a wise choice. Your father and brother will be moved to a private hospital tonight.” He handed Jaxon a card. “Call me tomorrow. You’ll be picked up. And don’t think about running—because we’ll find you.” “I won’t run,” Jaxon replied, clutching the card. Whatever was behind this strange offer, he’d soon find out. He was driven back to his apartment in the same black car. As he reached for his door, his phone buzzed—a new message. His eyes widened when he saw the credit alert. $20,000,000. He froze, staring at the digits on the screen. This can’t be real. Just hours ago, he had been desperate, hopeless, broke. Now he was rich—beyond anything he’d imagined. He lay on his bed, holding Felix’s card. His life had changed overnight. His phone rang—it was his mother. “Hello, Mom?” “Jaxon! Your friend came to the hospital,” she said, breathless. “He spoke to the doctor, paid all the bills, and transferred your father and brother to a VIP room! How did you get that kind of money?” “I… it just came,” he said weakly. “What do you mean, just came? That man spent fifty thousand dollars already! Are you doing something illegal?” He sighed, rubbing his forehead. “No, Mom. I got a new job. They paid in advance after I told them my situation.” She clicked her tongue. “Anyway, I need some money—about five hundred fifty dollars. I want to buy clothes for a wedding this weekend. Do you want your mother to look poor?” “Mother, I just paid for Dad’s and Daniel’s treatment.” “Yes, you did, but this is just a small amount. If you could pay those big bills, you can do this too. Send it to me, okay?” Jaxon rolled his eyes but sent the money, adding a little extra. Within a minute, she called again. “I saw it. Don’t forget your sister’s school fees. She’ll be returning soon.” “All right, Mom,” he muttered and hung up. She would drive him crazy one day. His stomach growled, reminding him he hadn’t eaten all day. He went out to the quiet street to buy food. But as he approached the fast-food place, a shadow stepped in front of him. He looked up — and frowned. “Ryan. You again?” Ryan grinned darkly. “We meet again. You broke my phone.” “What do you want, Ryan? Haven’t you done enough?” “You owe me, don’t you?” Ryan hissed, stepping closer. “You’re going to pay for my phone.” “You smashed it yourself,” Jaxon shot back. “Why should I pay for your stupidity?” Ryan’s grin widened as he pulled a small knife from his pocket. “You broke it, and I don’t care if you can afford it or not. Pay up—or say goodbye to this world.”Latest Chapter
Moving On
“So what do you intend on doing?” Felix asked him, and he shook his head. He had his plans, and Thomas would be sorry that he messed with him. “I’m going to pretend that nothing happened. I’m going to sign the document and give him the pleasure of having the company fund with him. That would be his doom. I’m going to make sure I ruin him. There’s no coming back from this one,” Jaxon said. Soon they arrived at the Greyson Group. Felix came out of the car in a rush and opened the door for Jaxon. He alighted from the car, and they both headed inside the company. Jaxon was smiling all through, thinking of the perfect plan he had in mind. “I just need to let him believe he’s winning. We will allow him to take the money. He’s planning to do something with that money. I don’t think he’s taking the money for keeps. And now Diego has refused to support him. He has something against him. You heard when he was talking about it—he’s planning something against Diego,” Jaxon said. “I don’t th
A Successful Ride
Thomas had been thinking of the best way to get back at Jaxon for looking down on him and talking to him like he was nothing. This is just the best thing he has been able to come up with. He’s going to steal money from the company. This is not the first time he’s done it anyway; it’s just that this time around, he’s stealing the money for himself. He will be using the money to fight against Diego himself. He was promised that he would be handed over the company if he would work for Diego and help him handle his other businesses. But now, Diego won’t even defend him against his son-in-law. There’s no assurance he’s going to keep his promise. “If you think you’re going to use me and discard me, then you must be sorely mistaken, Diego Greyson. I will make sure to take over the business from you. All I need is some money out of what I’m going to get from the company. I’m not stealing it anyway—I’m only taking my long overdue right,” Thomas giggled wickedly as he said. Thomas arrived
Fall in the Net
“What do you think is going on there? She didn’t give any specific details about her plans. This is frightening. I hope she doesn’t ruin things for us. Diego was pissed that I confronted him this evening as regards Mary, but I was able to counter all he said. I just had to make sure that they were not suspected in any way. At least not yet. Let’s just hope that things don’t go badly. We don’t know what she has in mind, but there’s nothing we can do. We will have to wait and see. And if anything happens at all, you have to make sure you escape first. It is more important that you are not caught. You are the only one that can claim your estate. I can’t do that for you, Jaxon. Do you understand?” Felix asked, and Jaxon shook his head. “Nothing is happening. Nothing is going to happen. We don’t even know what’s going to happen. She just wants to be sure if what we said is the truth,” Jaxon said. He didn’t want to think otherwise. In this situation, there’s nothing bad happening.” G
A Bad End
Diego arrived in Georgia’s room and opened the door. He didn’t know what to expect from her, so he was very reluctant, but he did it anyway. “Are you afraid that I’m going to poison you or something? Why don’t you want to come inside the room? I have a feeling you’ve done something you don’t want me to know. What are you hiding from me? I thought we were supposed to tell everything to each other,” Georgia said, and Diego shook his head. “There’s nothing like that, Georgia. Stop filling your head with nonsense. It’s not good for you. Do you mind going straight to the point and telling me the reason why I’m here? I have a lot of things to do. I don’t have time for your games,” Diego said. And she came close to him and wrapped her hands around him. “I just wanted to have a nice time with you tonight. Is that such a bad thing? What has been going on with you lately? Talk to me,” Georgia said. And Diego shook his head. He scoffed, his hands in his pockets. “What do you want, Georgi
Reflection
Paul sat there in his room thinking of all the wrong things he did in the past. He should never have done them. Maybe if he had done some things differently, things wouldn’t have gone that bad. But one thing he did well was to be there in time to save Laura after Diego shot her in the head. He remembered vividly how everything happened. Diego already had plans to kill Collins, and he filled him in, asking for his help. And he, of course, agreed to help him because he always had hidden affection for Laura. How funny that all three of them fell in love with Laura, and they all loved her hard, with everything they had. Diego was, and still is, even very much obsessed with her. Paul never had the nerve to act on his feelings for her, especially after he found out that she liked Collins. But Diego didn’t let the matter go. He wanted to get back at Collins by all means. According to him, Collins stole his woman. Paul didn’t help Diego with his plans of killing Collins and taking all he
Flashback
Diego made his way to Georgia’s room. He could only imagine what it was that she had to say to him. She had not been this sweet with him in a long while. He didn’t care much for her. He never did, and never would. The only person he cared about was Laura. Too bad she didn’t love him the way he did. She chose his friend over him, and that was the cause of her death. He could not bear to let her go be with another man. He still remembered the words she said to him that fateful day. That was something that would forever be imprinted in his mind for as long as he lived. Flashback “Why are you doing this, Diego? I thought we were all friends. Why did you kill my husband?” Laura’s pained voice was something he had not been able to heal from. The cry of grief from her heart still traumatized him to this day. He wanted to move closer to her, but she stepped backward as she didn’t want him touching her. “What are you talking about? How could you think I’m capable of doing something lik
