The phone screen went dark, but Ronke’s smiling face stayed burned in my mind. Seeing my ex-wife standing inside my family’s old estate, holding my father’s golden box like she owned it, sent a sharp wave of fury through my veins. She had helped destroy my life, thrown me out like garbage, and now she was waiting for me at the very place where everything started.
"Step on it," I told Commander Okoro, my voice shaking with raw anger.
Okoro slammed his foot down hard on the pedal. The van sped down the highway, its tires screaming against the asphalt as we tore through the night toward the edge of the city.
In the back seat, Ms. Alabi was busy checking Ife’s vitals. She shined a small penlight into my sister's eyes, then looked up at me with a serious expression. "Her pulse is stabilizing, Tunde. The antidote from the lab worked just in time. But she needs real medical care, and she needs rest. Taking her to your family estate tonight is a massive risk."
"I don't have a choice," I replied, staring out the front window as the dark silhouette of the old mansion came into view through the trees. "Ronke is there. The people who murdered my parents and tried to steal my system are there. This ends tonight."
Ms. Alabi did not argue. She reached into her bag and handed me a heavy, loaded pistol. "If Ronke is waiting for you in the open, it means she is not alone. The Black Sun Faction must have given her authority over the estate's internal defense grid. She is using herself as bait."
"Let her try," I said, taking the weapon.
The van slowed down as we approached the grand iron gates of the estate. Twelve years ago, these gates were broken open the night my family was slaughtered. Tonight, they stood wide open, welcoming us inside like a trap ready to snap shut.
Okoro parked the van in the shadows near the outer wall. "Young Master, my men and I will secure the perimeter. If anyone tries to escape out the back, we will stop them."
"No," I said, opening the door. "You stay here and protect Ife. Ms. Alabi and I will go inside."
Ms. Alabi stepped out of the van right behind me, adjusting her suit jacket with absolute calm. "I am coming with you, Tunde. I want to see how much power Ronke thinks she has bought with my former business partners."
We walked past the towering iron gates and stepped onto the cracked stone driveway. The massive ancestral mansion loomed ahead, its tall windows dark except for a single bright light glowing from the second-floor balcony.
As we reached the front steps, the heavy oak doors swung open slowly on their own. A soft classical tune played from hidden speakers inside the grand hall, echoing through the empty space like a ghost from the past.
Ronke stood at the top of the grand staircase. She was wearing an elegant white lace dress, her hair pinned up neatly, and a dark veil draped over her face. In her hands, she held the glowing golden box belonging to my father.
"You actually came, Tunde," Ronke said, her voice floating down the staircase. She lifted her veil, revealing a cold, triumphant smile that twisted her pretty features into something ugly. "I thought prison and poverty would have broken your spirit by now. But it looks like you are still as foolish as ever."
"Where is the rest of the council, Ronke?" I asked, my boots clicking hard against the marble floor as I took a step toward the stairs. "Or did they send you out alone because they knew you were expendable?"
Ronke laughed softly, a sharp sound that echoed off the high ceiling. "Expendable? Tunde, you still do not understand how the real world works. You thought your little garbage scavenging job made you special? You thought the system chose you by accident?"
She walked down the first few steps, holding the golden box tightly against her chest.
"I was the one who gave the Black Sun Faction access to your father's safe twelve years ago," Ronke said, her voice dripping with venom. "I was the one who made sure your divorce papers stripped you of every single penny before you even realized what was happening. Everything you suffered, I planned it."
Ms. Alabi narrowed her eyes, stepping up beside me. "So you sold your own husband to a shadow syndicate just to climb the corporate ladder."
"It is called ambition," Ronke snapped, glaring down at Ms. Alabi. "And tonight, with this box and the Scavenger System you carry, Tunde, I will inherit the entire global consortium. The Black Sun promised me leadership of the entire Lagos branch."
[System Alert: High-level hostile energy detected inside the walls.]
[Warning: The golden box contains an active detonation seal.]
[Suggested Action: Retrieve the box immediately before it triggers.]
I looked at the golden box in her hands. The glowing runes on its surface were pulsing faster, turning from a soft gold to a dangerous, burning red.
"You didn't win, Ronke," I said, my voice dropping an octave as I stared directly into her eyes. "They didn't give you the leadership. They gave you a bomb."
Ronke’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. She looked down at the box in her hands, and the red light reflected off her panicked eyes.
Before she could drop it, the walls around the grand staircase shattered inward, and dozens of armed mercenaries poured into the hall from every direction, their red-painted badges gleaming in the dark.

The Guest from the Past
The heavy car door clicked shut, echoing loudly across the empty street outside the glittering glass tower. The enforcer stood tall under the bright streetlights, holding the silver briefcase in one hand and the golden invitation card in the other. His lips curved into a sharp, mocking grin that made my fists clench instantly."You think you can just walk into Babajide's party and take back your family's empire?" the enforcer asked, tossing the golden invitation card onto the pavement right at my feet. "The Supreme Leader has been watching your every move, Tunde. He knows about the system. He knows about the dragon bloodline."Ms. Alabi stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as she studied the man's face. "Elder Balogun is hiding behind his proxies because he is a coward. If he wants to talk, tell him to step out into the light instead of sending a messenger."
Ashes of the Past
The heat from the burning mansion hit my back like a wall of fire. I rolled across the grass, holding the golden box tightly against my chest, while chunks of burning wood and broken stone rained down around us.I pushed myself up to my feet, coughing from the thick gray smoke. A few feet away, Ms. Alabi was dusting ash off her ruined designer suit, coughing lightly, with Ronke lying flat on the grass beside her. Ronke was shaking all over, her white lace dress torn and covered in black soot."Is everyone alive?" Ms. Alabi asked, her voice sharp as she looked over at me."I am fine," I said, looking down at the golden box in my hands. The box was no longer glowing red. The dangerous light had faded away, leaving the metal warm and quiet. Before Ronke could even catch her

She looked at the armed men, then at the box pulsing with a dangerous red light on the floor."Wait!" Ronke cried out, holding her hands up toward the mercenaries. "I am your commander! The Black Sun leadership promised me control of this branch!"The lead mercenary, a tall man with a jagged scar across his cheek, did not even look at her. He laughed coldly, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "You were never our leader,

The Price of Blood
The red alarm lights spun in a circle, painting the underground lab in angry flashes of red. The glass tubes around us cracked wide open, and the shadowy creatures stepped forward. They were not human. Their bodies were made of dense black smoke, and their eyes burned like hot coals."Kill them all," the clone ordered, pointing his hand right at my face. Before the shadowy monsters could jump across the room, Ms. Alabi stepped forward. She did not look scared at all. Instead, her face turned cold and sharp, showing the ruthless personality that made her one of the most powerful business leaders in Lagos. She pulled a small silver remote from her pocket and pressed a bright red button."You think you are the only one who prepared a trap, little copycat?" Ms. Alabi asked, her voice carrying clearly over the blaring al
The Fall into the Abyss
The freezing water hit my face like a wall of solid ice. The bridge had melted beneath our feet, and the dark river below swallowed us whole. The current was fast and rough, pulling me down into the deep black water while my lungs burned for air.I kicked my legs hard, pushing upward against the heavy pressure. My hands brushed against concrete pillars and twisted metal beams until my head finally broke the surface. I coughed out dirty water, wiping my eyes to look around the dark river. The bridge above was broken in half, dangling wires sparking orange light into the night. On the shore, sirens began to wail in the distance as police cars rushed toward the scene. But I did not care about the police. My eyes searched the dark water for Ife."Tunde!"The voice came from
