Chapter 1
A Hero's Fall
Chapter One The evening air bit at my skin as I trudged home, the cold seeping into my bones like an old memory I couldn’t shake. Today felt off. The streets were unnaturally quiet, save for the occasional whisper of wind through the bare trees. The scent of roasting and frying wafted from neighboring houses, dragging me back to moments I preferred not to relive—family dinners, my mother’s warm smile, and the taste of happiness that now felt foreign on my tongue. I sighed and pressed forward. The city felt drained tonight, hollow. Unlike the days when rain would drench my clothes and soak through my briefcase, the snow now coated the ground like a hushed promise of the holidays. Christmas was closing in. By the time I reached my apartment, my toes throbbed from the long walk. I’d been saving every penny, stretching my meager salary to buy food for myself and Timmy, the old man who slept on the bench outside my building. Timmy was in his late eighties and spent his days tidying up the flatlet out of a quiet sense of duty. The least I could do was repay his kindness with a hot meal now and then. “You shouldn’t have gone to so much trouble, master,” Timmy said as I handed him the bag. His frail body shivered, snowflakes settling in his white hair. “My conscience wouldn’t let me rest if I didn’t,” I replied, clapping him lightly on the shoulder. “Eat up and sleep, old man. Tomorrow’s another day.” Timmy nodded, gratitude etched into the lines of his face, and I left him to his meal. This was my life now—simple, repetitive, and devoid of excitement. It had been this way since my father died. To outsiders, it might seem tragic, but I had learned to hide the cracks in my facade. When the news came, I was an undergraduate at Lockhart University. Naive. Unprepared. By the time I returned home, I found myself in possession of a vast estate—and an even larger burden. My father’s will, handed over by my smug uncle, gave me a year to find a suitable companion. If I failed, everything would go to him but that wasn't the case, I'm a werewolf you see but my inner wolf has gone dormant for no reason. I stepped into my cramped single room, closing the door behind me. The dim light flickered on, illuminating the worn furnishings and stacks of papers on my rickety table. My world now fit within these four walls: a sagging bed, a patched ceiling, and a barely working TV. Shrugging off my coat, I opened my briefcase. Inside were documents from Solaria Bank, where I worked as a low-level clerk. My days were spent manually recording deposits and withdrawals. It wasn’t glamorous, but it paid the rent. As I spread the files across the table, I realized I’d left my pen at the office. "Damn it," I muttered. A glance at the dead wall clock confirmed my suspicions—it wasn’t ticking. With a sigh, I dug through my pockets. A few cents rattled in my palm—enough for a pen. The streets were colder as I walked to the mini-mart. My breath fogged the air as I mumbled numbers under my breath, mentally calculating tomorrow’s transactions. “Hey, Auston,” the storekeeper Chris greeted me with a wave. “In a rush?” “Yeah, just need a pen,” I replied. Minutes later, I had my purchase and was heading home. That’s when I saw them—a group of men shoving a woman against a wall. Her cries cut through the night, sending a shiver down my spine. I hesitated. People passed by, eyes fixed on the ground. My instinct screamed to walk away. But then she screamed again, and something inside me snapped. Gripping the pen tightly, I stepped into the alley. “Let her go,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. The thugs turned, sneering. One of them, tattooed and hulking, laughed. “You’ve got guts, kid. Pity you won’t have them for long.” “I said, let her go,” I repeated. Their laughter echoed. “Oh, we’ll walk away—after we’re done with you.” The first punch landed square on my nose. Pain shot through me as I stumbled, blood dripping down my face. Before I could react, they were on me—kicking, punching, and beating me to the ground. As the blows rained down, I reached deep, clawing for the beast within. I felt it stir, felt the hair prickle and grow, the promise of power just beneath my skin. But then—nothing. The wolf refused to break free. I tried, I fought for it, but it stayed buried, leaving me alone in the storm. The woman, Eve, screamed and tried to intervene, but they shoved her aside. She hit the wall hard, collapsing in a heap. I wanted to fight, but my body refused. The world blurred as a crowbar struck my ribs. Pain exploded through me. Then, a gunshot rang out. The thugs scattered. Chris stood at the alley’s mouth, a shotgun in hand. He rushed to my side. “Auston! Are you alive?!” Barely. The broken pen slipped from my fingers as darkness claimed me.

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy The Captain's Little Secret
Aliyah's POV A couple days later, me and Auston decided to wait at the bay, while we shrug off for the next boat on transit. We've decided to leave the city through the waterfront for our own safety. I wasn't keen on the idea at first– I honestly knew no one or nowhere else to run to at this point. I came to the States quite early, but it's not like I had any other options left. If I stay, I'll die, same as him. But on the flip side, we didn't have that much cash on us. So the best way out of the city was getting smuggled out. We've met a smuggler that agreed to ship us both across the city for a reasonable amount but we had to wait for him in the early hours of the day at the harbour.“Maybe I'm the one being overly dramatic but do you really think it's a great idea trusting this guy?” Auston asked. He's been restless since we came to the harbour. “We could wait for the cargo ships– I hear they will arrive before evening, I bet the price wi

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy Bounty on the Run
Marcus' POV The boxes were running low on cigarette sticks. It was just me and a few of my men out on the balcony blowing smoke, while my dad had been raging inside like a caged animal in his office. I couldn’t just walk in there—that man’s psychopathically inclined when he’s furious, I'd rather watch him get a heart attack_i mean, it feels fair enough. “One fucking simple job!” His fist slammed heavily on the table. Then, he spontaneously picked up the lamp stand and hurled it across the room. It shattered against the flat-screen TV. I mean, he couldn’t get any less homicidal. He kept pacing back and forth, pulling on his hair, his fingers desperately trying to remain calm. He was losing it. The man rarely gets this pissed off, and when he does, I tend to stay at arm’s length. So, a quick reminder: Earlier today, Wilson, the butler, came back with some rather reckless news. Before the whole slip-up, my dad and I sat opposite each other, having a rather awkward father-and-son bondi

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy A long Night Ahead
Auston's POV It was cold outside. We sat beneath a lamplight, gazing at the little city far across the shallow lake. After what had happened a while back, I couldn’t rely on hypotheses anymore. I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone—somewhere—started poking their noses into our business or scaling the walls to find us. We had become primary targets, not just for Marcus and literal assassins but for social media as well.I sighed dryly, taking a sip from the beer beside me—the only comforting excuse for the evening. My fingers brushed against the metal sheets beneath me. The wind blew east, fresh and gentle. I didn’t expect the serenity I felt now to last much longer. I had to embrace the truth—and stop reprimanding myself. The journey ahead was far from over. And I needed to cherish this moment while it lasted. As I sat there, wallowing in my impudence, I felt a soft finger trickle down my neck. I sighed slightly, reluctant to tilt my head, but the savory smell wafting through the

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy Shattered Glass and Shattered Secrets.
Auston's POV.You ever feel like you’re just a walking bag of cash? Yeah, me neither—until tonight, it’s not the kind of adrenaline rush you sign up for. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might crack a rib, and my fingers? Yeah, they were trembling like I’d just downed ten shots of espresso. Chris was bleeding out on the floor, his life pooling around him in a dark, sticky mess. My face was locked on the ground, my inner wolf clawing at the edges of my mind, begging me to let it out. But fear? Fear’s a bitch. It wraps around your spine and squeezes until you’re paralyzed. The guy with the gun—no name, no introduction, just cold, calculated menace—rested the barrel on the armrest of the chair like he was waiting for me to make a move. “Auston, you can’t outrun a bullet,” I muttered under my breath, my voice barely a whisper. “And don’t even try to play the hero.” The killer shifted in his boots, the leather cr

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy The One way things gets Wrecked.
Auston's POV I had nowhere to stay. Nowhere to sleep. No one to turn to. The kind of emptiness that makes you feel like you’re floating, untethered, in a world that’s too loud and too quiet all at once. I’d been looking for Aliyah for over a week now, and every day that passed felt like another nail in the coffin of hope. Maybe she’s dead, I thought, and the second that idea slithered into my mind, I slapped myself hard across the face. The sting was sharp, immediate, grounding. This isn’t the time, Auston. Get your shit together. I could still feel it—that bond, that pull, like an invisible thread tied around my ribs, tugging me toward her. She was out there. She had to be. That evening, I took a stroll down my old block. Nostalgia hit me like a punch to the gut, but I wasn’t here for a trip down memory lane. I came covered—hood up, scarf wrapped around my face, hands shoved deep into my pockets. Marcus’ men were everywhere, and the last thing I needed was one of his goons rec

The Alpha's Billion-dollar Legacy Fists, Fangs and False Smiles
Harrison had no interest in going to the mayor’s mansion– after the shit he faced with Caleb earlier this morning . The invitation was more of a summons, dressed up with flowery words and a bullshit title: A Decade of Safety Commemoration. He knew exactly what that meant. Ten years of hunting down "criminals"—which really meant werewolves and anything else that didn't fit the mayor’s idea of clean and civilized.Meanwhile, actual crime hadn’t gone anywhere. Murder, rape, extortion—same as always. But the mayor had decided the real threat wasn’t the ones stealing from the poor or bleeding the city dry. No, the real enemy were the things hiding in the dark, things like Harrison and Marcus and Auston. If the mayor had even a clue about Harrison's origin, he'd be rotting in a ditch, not playing king of the city. When Harrison arrived that evening with Wilson, the place was packed with the usual crowd—wealthy men who shook his hand but never trusted him, women who whispered his name like

Honestly, I don't like werewolf novels. But this is different, it like I'm in a new world. Not the usual cliche werewolf story that the a girl was forced out of her pack and rejected but was enslaved by her second chance. I love Austons. This character is so nuance and this is a 10/10 I swear. More!
Rose D'Arc
Austons characters is so well fleshed out and I'm loving everyone in this book, broke Timmy and Chris's friendship to Aaliyah's snark to the mystery Eve has. I can't wait to see him grow into his powers.
