At seven o’clock the next morning, the executive boardroom of City Hospital was already packed.

George walked into the room wearing his tailored charcoal suit, his medical ID badge clipped to his lapel. The long mahogany table was surrounded by twelve members of the hospital board, all whispering anxiously. At the far end of the table sat Dr. Webber, his forehead shining with sweat.

Right beside Webber sat a man George hadn't expected to see so soon: Richard Vance, Tiffany’s uncle and the chief financial officer of the regional medical supplier, Vance Biotech.

"Ah, Dr. Sterling," Dr. Webber said, standing up quickly and gesturing to the empty chair at the head of the table. "Please, sit. We have... a delicate administrative crisis to address."

George sat down, resting his folded hands on the table. "Good morning, Dr. Webber. Mr. Vance. I assume this meeting concerns Dr. Dean?"

Richard Vance leaned forward, his sharp, hawk-like eyes fixing on George. Richard was a man who ruled through intimidation and financial pressure; he had long despised George for refusing to sign exclusive hospital contracts with Vance Biotech’s overpriced surgical supplies.

"It concerns the reputation of this institution, George," Richard said coldly. "Vincent Dean was arrested on public television last night. The media is calling City Hospital a haven for narcotics abuse. Our stock dropped six points this morning."

"Dr. Dean’s criminal behavior is his own responsibility," George said calmly. "The police have his pharmacy logs. The matter is in the hands of the District Attorney."

"Is it?" Richard sneered. He slid a thick manila folder across the table toward George. "Because according to Vincent’s statement to his bail bondsman this morning, you were the one who poured that wine in Suite 402. He is alleging that you laced his drink to eliminate your primary rival for the Chief of Surgery position."

The board members murmured, exchanging nervous glances.

George didn't open the folder. He didn't blink. He had anticipated they would try to spin the narrative.

"Dr. Dean is facing seven years in federal prison," George replied smoothly. "A desperate man will say anything to shift the blame. But if you are questioning my integrity, Mr. Vance, perhaps we should look at the hospital’s procurement ledgers."

Richard stiffened. "What does procurement have to do with this?"

George reached into his leather briefcase and pulled out a slim, encrypted tablet. He tapped the screen and projected a spreadsheet onto the boardroom’s main wall monitor.

"During my review of Dr. Dean’s surgical cases over the past six months," George said, his voice ringing clearly through the quiet room, "I noticed a curious pattern. In eighty percent of his cardiovascular bypass surgeries, Dr. Dean requisitioned prosthetic heart valves exclusively from Vance Biotech."

Richard’s face darkened. "We are an approved hospital vendor!"

"You are," George agreed. "However, Vance Biotech valves cost forty percent more than the industry standard, and their clinical failure rate is three percent higher. Yet, Dr. Dean consistently bypassed the hospital’s primary supplier to order from you. Furthermore, financial records show that Vance Biotech paid a monthly 'consulting retainer' of fifteen thousand dollars directly into an offshore account owned by Dr. Vincent Dean."

The room erupted into shocked gasps. Dr. Webber turned pale, staring at the screen. "Richard... is this true? You were kicking back commissions to Vincent?"

"It’s a lie!" Richard shouted, slamming his hand on the table as he stood up. "Those consulting fees were entirely legal for biomedical research! You are fabricating a conspiracy, George!"

"The IRS financial crimes division can determine its legality," George said coldly. He stood up, buttoning his suit coat. "As the new Head of the Medical Board, my first official act is an emergency audit of all Vance Biotech supply contracts. Effective immediately, City Hospital is freezing all pending orders with your firm until the federal investigation is complete."

"You can't do that!" Richard roared, his veins bulging in his neck. "We supply half your surgical wings! You’ll paralyze the hospital!"

"We have already secured an alternative supply line at standard market cost," a cool woman's voice said from the doorway.

The boardroom doors opened. Elena Maxwell walked in, followed by two corporate attorneys. She looked impeccable in a sharp navy dress suit, her eyes icy as she looked at Richard Vance.

"The Maxwell Group has authorized an immediate five-million-dollar credit line to cover the transition to a new supplier," Elena stated, walking to George’s side. "City Hospital no longer requires Vance Biotech’s overpriced hardware. If you have a complaint, Mr. Vance, my legal team is ready to receive your formal filing."

Richard stood frozen, surrounded by hostile eyes. He looked at Elena, then turned a murderous glare toward George. He realized he had walked into a trap. George hadn't just removed Vincent; he was systematically cutting the Vance family’s financial roots out of the hospital.

"You think you’ve won, boy?" Richard hissed, leaning over the table toward George. "You think having a billionaire heiress holding your leash makes you untouchable? Tiffany told me who you really are,an arrogant, naive fool who doesn't know his own depth."

"Get out of my hospital, Richard," George said quietly.

Richard gritted his teeth, grabbed his manila folder, and stormed out of the boardroom, slamming the door behind him.

"My chest feels tight."Captain Briggs kept his hands on the steering wheel of the speedboat. He tried to take a deep breath, but the wind was blowing hard against his face. The boat was bouncing over the rough harbor waves.George was sitting in the back of the boat, making sure the plastic computer cases were safe from the splashing water. He heard the captain speak. George immediately stood up and walked toward the front of the boat."What is wrong, Captain?" George asked. His voice was calm, but his eyes were very sharp. He looked at the older man.Captain Briggs was sweating, even though the ocean wind was cold. His skin looked very pale. He rubbed the center of his chest with one hand. "It is just heartburn, Doctor. I ate a spicy sandwich for lunch. The bouncing of the boat is making it worse."George reached out and placed his fingers on the captain's wrist. The pulse was beating very fast. It felt irregular. It was skipping beats."It is not a spicy sandwich," George said firm

"We have exactly fifty minutes to move an entire data center."George looked at his watch. The second hand was sweeping across the dial. Every moment was precious. He turned to Aris."Start disconnecting the main servers," George ordered quickly. "Do it very carefully. We cannot damage the hard drives. Put them into the protective plastic cases."Aris was already moving. She grabbed a screwdriver and began unhooking the power cables. "George, I can pack them. But how are we going to get them past Julian Cross? He has guards watching the front alley. We cannot just carry big boxes past them."Elena finished typing a message on her phone. She looked up with a very bright, sharp expression. "We are not going to carry them past the guards. We are going to make the guards look the wrong way.""What is your plan?" George asked."The South Harbor district is full of narrow streets," Elena explained. "I just ordered ten of my delivery trucks to drive here immediately. They will all park in th

"You cannot simply buy a building in one day without a public notice."George walked into the secret basement clinic in South Harbor. His voice was very firm. Elena Maxwell walked right beside him. Her eyes scanned the room quickly.Standing in the center of the clinic was a man wearing a very shiny silver suit. The man had neat blonde hair and a perfectly straight posture. He held a high priced leather briefcase in one hand. Three men in dark suits stood behind him. They looked like very serious lawyers."Ah, Dr. Sterling," the man in the silver suit said. He smiled a very bright, fake smile. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you. My name is Julian Cross. I am the regional director for the Global Apex Medical Syndicate. And you are wrong about the building. When you have billions of dollars in cash, you can buy a building in ten minutes."George did not smile back. He walked past Julian and stood next to Aris. Aris was sitting in her chair, guarding the computer servers. She looked v

"Who is this?" Richard Vance demanded through the small radio speaker. His voice suddenly sounded very high and very panicked. "Where are my men? Put my men on the radio right now!" George did not raise his voice. He kept his tone steady and perfectly calm. "Your men are tied up in the basement of City Hospital, Richard. They just confessed that you ordered them to destroy the backup generators. The police are on their way. I suggest you find a very good lawyer." "You are lying!" Richard screamed. The radio speaker cracked with the loud noise. "You cannot prove anything! Dr. Sterling, you are a fool! You think you can beat me? I have the Apex Syndicate behind me!" "You have nothing," George replied simply. He turned off the radio and tossed it onto the floor. He looked at the three delivery men. "Tie these two men to the pipes. Make sure they cannot run away. Then go find the emergency override switch to unlock the fire doors upstairs. The police will handle them." Elena step

"They locked the doors?" Elena asked. She lowered her phone flashlight and walked over to the security guard. "Who locked the doors?""We do not know, Miss Maxwell," the guard explained quickly. "The fire doors dropped down, and the electronic locks were crushed from the other side. Nobody can get in, and we cannot get out. We are trying to call the fire department, but the phone lines are cut too."George stood very still in the dark hallway. He thought about the situation. The entire surgical wing was sealed. The power was dead. Richard Vance had planned this perfectly. Richard wanted George to be trapped in the dark with a dying patient. Richard wanted the news reporters to say that Dr. George Sterling killed a man because his software caused a power failure. But Richard Vance did not know two very important things. First, he did not know George could perform surgery in the dark. Second, he did not know George remembered the secret layout of the old hospital building."We do not ne

"Do not move a single muscle," George commanded into the pitch black darkness. His voice was totally calm. It cut through the sudden panic in the operating room like a sharp knife. When the lights went out, a few nurses had gasped in fear. The only sounds in the room were the rapid, frightened breathing of the medical staff and the slow, steady beeping of the battery powered heart monitor."Dr. Sterling, we cannot see anything," Nurse Clara whispered. Her voice was shaking with pure terror. "The backup generators did not turn on. The main power is completely gone. The ventilator machine just stopped breathing for the patient.""I know," George said. He did not let go of the silver scalpel in his hand. He kept his fingers perfectly still in the dark. "Clara, reach to your left. Grab the manual oxygen bag. You need to squeeze it with your hands. One squeeze every three seconds. Do it right now."Clara took a deep breath. She reached into the dark and felt the plastic bag. "I have it, Do
