The heat inside Vance’s underground forge was suffocating. Deep beneath The Hole, where the air hummed with the rhythmic clang of heavy machinery and the glow of liquid furnace fire, Leo stood bare-chested over a heavy stone anvil.

Vance stood across from him, holding a pair of heavy iron tongs gripping a glowing chunk of molten Void-Steel.

"I've melted down all twenty ingots," Vance grunted, wiping sweat from his scarred forehead. "This stuff is high-density dark metal. Normal hammers won't bind it to your gauntlets without a high-tier rune-smith. But your class mechanics... they're doing something weird to the forge fire."

Leo didn't answer. He simply reached out and placed his bare forearms straight onto the red-hot anvil, right beneath the crucible of molten dark metal.

Vance gasped, almost dropping his tongs. "Kid, what the hell are you—"

"Pour it," Leo commanded, his voice cold and unwavering.

Vance hesitated for a fraction of a second, but seeing the absolute certainty in Leo's eyes, he tipped the crucible.

A stream of white-hot, liquid Void-Steel poured directly onto Leo's bare arms and existing D-rank gauntlets. The searing heat hit his skin at over two thousand degrees, scorching through his top layer of flesh in a fraction of a second. The sickening smell of burning tissue filled the small forge room.

AAAGH!

Leo gritted his teeth so hard his jaw muscles bulged like iron rods, a low, guttural growl tearing from his throat. The excruciating, white-hot agony flared across his central nervous system, threatening to shatter his mind.

Then, the blood-red interface exploded in his vision.

[Class Skill 'Scavenger' Interacting with Void-Steel Alloy...]

The freezing counter-current of System energy erupted from his heart, flooding his forearms with icy light. Instead of melting his flesh to the bone, the liquid Void-Steel bonded directly with his skin, muscle tissue, and existing dark armor plates. The molten metal cooled instantly into sleek, pitch-black armor plates that wrapped tightly around his forearms like a second, impenetrable skin.

The obsidian spikes along his knuckles elongated into jagged, razor-sharp talons that crackled with dark, void-infused electricity.

[New Ability Unlocked: Void Burst (Releases stored kinetic energy as a piercing void shockwave that ignores 30% of target armor)]

Vance stared in absolute, dumbfounded horror as the smoke cleared. Leo pulled his arms back from the anvil. The skin along his shoulders was smooth, silver-sheened, and completely unblemished, while his new C-rank gauntlets pulsed with a terrifying, pitch-black aura that absorbed the forge’s ambient firelight.

"You... you used the pain of molten metal to force the alloy to bind..." Vance whispered, stepping back against the furnace wall. "You're insane. You're a complete monster."

"I'm efficient," Leo said, flexing his fingers. The heavy plates clicked into place with a crisp, lethal sound.

He reached down, picked up his fresh black shirt and tactical coat, and pulled them on. Thanks to Pain Masking, the black aura and the staggering pressure radiating from his freshly upgraded body collapsed back down into complete invisibility. To the outside world, he was just an unassuming F-rank holding a heavy bag.

He opened his status panel.

[Status Check: Leo]

[Agility: 36]

[Endurance: 125] (Approaching A-Rank Vanguard Threshold)

[Active Skills: Kinetic Conversion, Kinetic Shockwave, Void Burst, Impact Resonance (Passive)]

With his Endurance at 125 and Strength nearly hitting triple digits, his physical foundation was now capable of tanking high-tier physical attacks that would pulverize an entire C-rank squad.

A soft chime echoed from the corner of the room where Vance’s private comms terminal was buzzing frantically.

Vance walked over to the terminal, his mechanical eye whirring as he scanned the incoming encrypted text feed from the border checkpoints surrounding Sector 7.

"It's started," Vance said, his voice dropping into a tense whisper. "The Iron Vanguard has deployed their blockade. They’ve closed the northern toll gates leading into the city core. Marcus didn't just send guards—he hired the Shadow-Hound Mercenary Unit."

"Shadow-Hounds?" Leo asked, adjusting his hood.

"A pair of twin A-Rank brothers—Rene and Viktor," Vance said, turning back to Leo with a grim expression. "Rene is a High-Tier Shadow Mage who can bind your movement from a mile away, and Viktor is a dual-dagger Executioner who targets paralyzed prey. They've cleared over thirty illegal dungeon breaches for the high guilds. They don't take prisoners, Leo."

Vance pulled out a small electronic map and tossed it onto the table. "They’ve set up their kill-zone at the Sector 7 Northern Bridge. If you want to get into the city core to reach Marcus, you have to go through them."

Leo walked up to the table and picked up the electronic map, looking at the glowing red marker at the bridge.

"Two A-Rank hunters," Leo muttered softly.

A slow, terrifying smile carved across his face in the dim light of the forge. His eyes flashed with a dark, euphoric crimson beneath the shadow of his hood.

"An A-rank Shadow Mage and a B-rank Executioner..." Leo whispered, pulling his gloves tight over his void-forged gauntlets. "Imagine how much stats they're going to give me."

  • Chapter 35: The Fall of the Valerius Syndicate

The silence hanging over the Grand Assembly Plaza was absolute, heavy enough to drown out the distant, frantic sirens wailing across the lower districts. The air smelled of burnt ozone, pulverized white marble, and the metallic tang of crushed void-crystals. High above, the shattered dome of the central terrace frame groaned under the structural displacement caused by Leo’s single step, sending small showers of white dust fluttering down like ash.Duke Valerius clung to the carved stone balustrade, his breath coming in ragged, shallow hitches. His grey eyes, usually calculating and cold, darted wildly across the courtyard. He looked at the paladins of the High Vanguard—men he had spent millions of gold coins arming with the finest dwarven steel and enchanted barrier shields. They stood frozen, their shields locked in a defensive tortoise wall, but their knees were visibly trembling beneath their heavy plate armor. They were not looking at Valerius for orders. Their eyes were fixed

  • Chapter 34: The Sector 7 Ultimatum

The trembling of the Grand Assembly Plaza did not stop. It settled into a low, terrifying harmonic frequency that hummed through the soles of every noble, paladin, and magistrate present.Duke Valerius gripped the balcony railing, his knuckles turning chalk-white. "Insolence!" he barked, his voice straining to cover the pitch of panic rising in his chest. "You survive a suicide breach through pure, unvetted dark anomaly, and you return to threaten the High Council? Guards! Detain Class Zero immediately under the Citadel Sedition Act!"Not a single paladin moved. The heavy-armored vanguard line stood frozen, their shields locked, their eyes darting nervously between their captain and the bare-chested figure in the crater. They were veterans of the Upper Breaches, but the instinct ingrained deep in their bones shouted a single, universal warning: To step toward that man is to step into a grinding wheel."Sedition?" Leo muttered, taking another slow, heavy step forward.BOOM.The

  • Chapter 33: The Citadel Trembles

The sky above the Sky Citadel was no longer clear. The colossal pillar of pitch-black void energy that had punched straight up through ten floors of the Abyss had torn a two-hundred-foot hole clean through the center of the Grand Assembly Plaza. Sunlight streamed through the smoking shaft, illuminating a swirling cloud of pulverized quartz, calcified dust, and purified mana mist that rained down over the floating island like silver snow.Emergency sirens blared across all four districts.Paladins of the High Vanguard lined the perimeter of the smoking crater, their heavy shields locked, their enchanted spears raised in terrified anticipation. High above on the central terrace, the members of the High Council stood in frantic clusters, their scrying slates flashing red with catastrophic energy readings."The breach core..." a Council Magistrate stammered, his hands shaking as he stared at his slate. "The core of Floor 10... it didn't just stabilize. The energy signature of the Wor

The opening to Floor 9 did not lead to a cavern of cold basalt or quartz.
