Chapter 1: Left for Dead
The smell of copper and rot was thick enough to choke on. Deep within the lower depths of the Obsidian Caverns, a rank-D dungeon that should have been far out of reach for a group of novices, the air hung heavy with damp, stifling heat. Leo knelt in the dirt, his lungs burning as he gasped for air. Blood trickled from a jagged gash on his forehead, blurring his vision in crimson streaks. Just feet away, the towering form of a Shadow-Clawed Bear let out a low, guttural roar that rattled the loose gravel on the stone floor. Its eyes glowed like dying embers, saliva dripping from a jaw wide enough to snap a man in half. "Keep it busy, Leo!" a voice called out from the shadows near the cavern exit. Leo looked up, wiping the warm blood from his eyes. Marcus stood near the glowing blue archway of the dungeon portal, his polished silver armor gleaming under the soft mana light. Beside him stood Elena, her staff already powered down, and two other senior members of the Iron Vanguard Guild. They weren't prepping a counter-attack. They were retreating. "Marcus... wait," Leo rasped, his voice raw. He reached out a trembling hand. His body was battered, his leather armor shredded from the monster's initial ambush. "My stamina is completely gone. I can't draw its aggro alone!" Marcus chuckled, a cold, mocking sound that echoed against the cavern walls. "That's literally the only reason we brought an F-rank 'Scavenger' along, kid. You don't have combat skills. You don't have mana reserves. Your potential rank is a joke. The guild gave you a chance, and this is how you pay us back? By slowing us down?" "You set the path through the lower sector!" Leo coughed, blood spraying onto the cold floor. "You knew a Rank-D boss spawned here!" "And now we know to bring better bait next time," Elena added coldly, not even bothering to look Leo in the eye as she stepped back through the shimmering threshold of the portal. "Consider your contract terminated." "Marcus!" Leo screamed, pushing himself up on one knee. Marcus didn't answer. He simply reached for the dungeon control rune embedded near the archway and dragged his palm across it. The heavy, magical barrier sealed with a deafening chime. The blue glow vanished, plunging the chamber into near-total darkness, illuminated only by the crimson glare of the beast standing over him. Trapped. Abandoned. Sacrificed so the "elites" could run away with their skin intact. A bitter, burning rage ignited in Leo's chest, hot enough to outshine the blinding pain in his ribs. Ever since his Awakening ceremony six months ago—when the glowing slate had revealed his bottom-tier F-Rank status and the useless title of Scavenger—he had been treated as subhuman. A pack mule. Live target practice. A disposable pawn. The bear slammed its massive, razor-sharp claw into Leo's chest. CRACK. The sound of his own sternum fracturing echoed in his ears as the sheer force threw him backward against the jagged stone wall. He slumped to the ground, spitting a mouthful of hot blood. Pain—blinding, unimaginable pain—flooded every nerve in his body. His vision rapidly dimmed at the edges. So this is it, Leo thought, his hands digging helplessly into the dirt. Dying like trash in a dark hole while they take the reward. The bear took a heavy step forward, raising its massive paw to crush his head and finish the job. Leo closed his eyes, gritting his teeth against the agony, waiting for the final blow. Then, a strange sound echoed in his head. It wasn't the soft, angelic chime of a normal System notification. It was a harsh, screeching static—like metal grinding against metal. [WARNING: User vitality has dropped below 5%] [CRITICAL ERROR: Class 'Scavenger' (F-Rank) incompatible with fatal environmental damage.] [Glitch Detected... Attempting System Rectification...] [Class Skill 'Scavenge' corrupted by extreme physical trauma.] [Forcing Hidden Hidden Protocol: "The Infinite Trial System"] Leo's eyes snapped open. Suspended in the air right above his face was a dark, blood-red interface panel, flickering erratically like a broken monitor. [Trial Conditions Met: Unyielding Agony.] [Passive Ability Unlocked: Pain Conversion (Rank 1)] [Effect: The user can no longer gain passive experience points or standard stat points from normal training or low-risk combat. Stats are permanently locked to baseline.] [Conversion Mechanic: 100% of physical damage sustained above threshold is converted into permanent Attribute Points and System Energy.] The Shadow-Clawed Bear's paw came crashing down, slamming directly into Leo's shoulder. THWACK. The excruciating pain flared again, so intense Leo wanted to scream until his lungs tore open. But as the tissue tore and bones cracked, a flood of icy, electric energy surged through his veins, washing over the agony. [Damage Sustained: High Physical Impact.] [Pain Converted!] [Strength +3] [Agility +2] [Endurance +5] [Vitality partially restored to sustain trial continuity.] A strange, warm sensation spread from his core, instantly knitting together the broken bone in his shoulder just enough to keep him conscious. The blinding agony was still there—raw, searing, and real—but beneath it, he felt a sudden, terrifying surge of raw power blooming in his muscles. The bear pulled its paw back, visibly confused as to why the fragile human hadn't been turned into a paste. It roared in frustration, raising both claws high into the air for a double-downward smash. Leo lay in his own blood on the cavern floor. A slow, violent smile spread across his blood-stained lips. "Is that all you've got?" Leo whispered, his voice trembling not with fear, but with an insane, desperate realization. To grow stronger, he didn't need rare gear. He didn't need a high-tier guild, or a god-tier class, or the favor of the elites. He just had to survive the suffering. The beast brought its claws down with full force. Leo didn't dodge. He braced himself, opened his arms, and let the nightmare begin.

The Apex Awakening Chapter 35: The Fall of the Valerius Syndicate
The silence hanging over the Grand Assembly Plaza was absolute, heavy enough to drown out the distant, frantic sirens wailing across the lower districts. The air smelled of burnt ozone, pulverized white marble, and the metallic tang of crushed void-crystals. High above, the shattered dome of the central terrace frame groaned under the structural displacement caused by Leo’s single step, sending small showers of white dust fluttering down like ash.Duke Valerius clung to the carved stone balustrade, his breath coming in ragged, shallow hitches. His grey eyes, usually calculating and cold, darted wildly across the courtyard. He looked at the paladins of the High Vanguard—men he had spent millions of gold coins arming with the finest dwarven steel and enchanted barrier shields. They stood frozen, their shields locked in a defensive tortoise wall, but their knees were visibly trembling beneath their heavy plate armor. They were not looking at Valerius for orders. Their eyes were fixed

The Apex Awakening Chapter 34: The Sector 7 Ultimatum
The trembling of the Grand Assembly Plaza did not stop. It settled into a low, terrifying harmonic frequency that hummed through the soles of every noble, paladin, and magistrate present.Duke Valerius gripped the balcony railing, his knuckles turning chalk-white. "Insolence!" he barked, his voice straining to cover the pitch of panic rising in his chest. "You survive a suicide breach through pure, unvetted dark anomaly, and you return to threaten the High Council? Guards! Detain Class Zero immediately under the Citadel Sedition Act!"Not a single paladin moved. The heavy-armored vanguard line stood frozen, their shields locked, their eyes darting nervously between their captain and the bare-chested figure in the crater. They were veterans of the Upper Breaches, but the instinct ingrained deep in their bones shouted a single, universal warning: To step toward that man is to step into a grinding wheel."Sedition?" Leo muttered, taking another slow, heavy step forward.BOOM.The

The Apex Awakening Chapter 33: The Citadel Trembles
The sky above the Sky Citadel was no longer clear. The colossal pillar of pitch-black void energy that had punched straight up through ten floors of the Abyss had torn a two-hundred-foot hole clean through the center of the Grand Assembly Plaza. Sunlight streamed through the smoking shaft, illuminating a swirling cloud of pulverized quartz, calcified dust, and purified mana mist that rained down over the floating island like silver snow.Emergency sirens blared across all four districts.Paladins of the High Vanguard lined the perimeter of the smoking crater, their heavy shields locked, their enchanted spears raised in terrified anticipation. High above on the central terrace, the members of the High Council stood in frantic clusters, their scrying slates flashing red with catastrophic energy readings."The breach core..." a Council Magistrate stammered, his hands shaking as he stared at his slate. "The core of Floor 10... it didn't just stabilize. The energy signature of the Wor

The Apex Awakening Chapter 32: The Final Threshold
The threshold to Floor 10 was not an opening, a tear, or a portal. It was an absolute void—a motionless, starless sea of dense black mana where time, light, and sound dissolved into nothingness.Leo stepped through the barrier, his boots bringing a heavy, metallic thud to the invisible ground beneath him.[WARNING: Entered Breach Zone — Floor 10: 'The Abyssal Throne'.][Environmental Hazard: Concept Erasure 'Absolute Zero Weight' Active.][Environmental Hazard: Gravitational Pull 150x Baseline.][Impact Force: 8,800 (EXCEEDS ABSOLUTE THRESHOLD!)]ZZZZZZT-BOOM!The moment Leo set foot on the black obsidian floor of the final chamber, a gravity 150 times greater than the world above slammed down onto his frame. The sheer mass of the atmosphere was dense enough to compress iron into powder, and the conceptual erasure immediately gnawed at his flesh, attempting to unmake his physical existence.[CRITICAL DAMAGE SUSTAINED: Absolute Gravitational Compression & Conceptual Erasure.][Pa
