Klein's expression shifted, his usual lighthearted grin turning serious.

He eyed Vax with newfound respect, his amusement fading as he straightened up.

"Ever since I awakened, this is the first time I’ve felt even a twinge of pain," he admitted, his voice carrying a weight that hadn’t been there before.

His eyes narrowed as he looked Vax over, sizing him up as if realizing for the first time that this fight might actually pose some challenge. "You're good."

Vax’s confidence faltered for a brief moment, a crack in his usual calm demeanor.

He took a step back, his grip tightening on the hilt of his sword, eyes flicking toward Klein’s glowing scales.

His lips parted, but he hesitated before speaking, as if trying to brush off the growing tension.

"What are you, some kind of monster?" His tone was playful, but there was an edge of real concern in his voice that he couldn’t quite hide.

Drops of sweat trickled down his forehead, betraying the strain it was taking to keep his composure.

Klein scratched his head, pretending to be casual about the whole thing, but his grin didn’t last long.

"In a way," he replied, the grin fading as quickly as it appeared.

His voice dropped a little, and his entire posture changed. The air around him seemed to thicken with a dangerous energy.

His Archfiend scales, which had shimmered faintly before, began to glow brighter, their golden hue deepening as a low rumble built up from his chest.

Vax took another step back, his brow furrowed in concentration.

He knew what was coming, but he wasn’t sure how to prepare for it.

His eyes darted around the alley, calculating, but his focus kept snapping back to Klein, whose entire form seemed to pulse with power.

Klein exhaled sharply, and with that breath came a torrent of golden and black flames, erupting from his mouth like a tidal wave of molten fury.

The alley lit up, the darkened walls now bathed in fiery light.

The flames surged forward, crackling and twisting through the narrow space, almost alive in their hunger to consume everything in their path.

"Storm Breath!" Klein’s voice boomed, carried on the roar of the flames, his words echoing off the stone walls.

The intensity of the blast distorted the air, making it ripple and warp with heat. The few onlookers who hadn’t already fled the scene gasped and backed away further, the scorching heat forcing them to shield their faces.

Vax’s eyes widened.

He had only a heartbeat to react. His body moved instinctively, spinning his sword in a desperate attempt to create a barrier of air.

The vortex he formed managed to hold back some of the inferno, but not enough.

The flames crashed over him like a tidal wave, and despite his best efforts, the heat seared his skin.

His arms and shoulders burned, the pain sharp and immediate.

He gritted his teeth, his face twisted in agony as he staggered back, clutching his wounded arm to his chest.

"Klein S’roar..." His voice came out strained, almost a whisper, as he sheathed his sword. His movements were sluggish now, every step labored as he tried to steady himself.

Klein blinked in confusion, tilting his head to the side like he didn’t quite understand.

"What’s going on? We were just getting started!" he called out, his tone carrying a hint of disappointment.

He’d been enjoying himself, caught up in the thrill of a real challenge, and now it felt like the fight was ending too soon.

Vax’s shoulders slumped, the weight of defeat heavy on his frame.

He looked down, avoiding Klein's eyes for a moment before shaking his head. "I give up. You win."

His voice had lost its earlier bravado, replaced with quiet resignation.

He knew when he was outmatched, and this—Klein’s raw power—was more than he could handle.

"Your invulnerable skin, those overpowered attacks... you’re really a Divine Archfiend System bearer. Just like that man... I could never surpass him."

His eyes flickered with something like regret before he added, "It pains me to say this, but you’ve bested me."

Klein frowned, his eyes narrowing slightly as he stared at Vax.

"Come on, don’t be like that," he protested, taking a few steps forward.

"I was having fun!" There was almost a whine in his voice, like a child denied their favorite game.

He wanted more—more challenge, more excitement. He hadn’t even broken a sweat yet.

Vax sighed deeply, rubbing his injured arm.

His burns throbbed painfully, but it was the sting of defeat that hurt more. He held out his uninjured hand, his expression sincere.

"I'm willing to bury the hatchet if you are."

For a moment, Klein stared at the extended hand, as if weighing the offer. Then his serious expression broke, and his grin returned. He reached out and clasped Vax’s hand firmly.

"Sure thing," he said, his voice light again.

He wasn’t one to hold grudges, especially after a good fight. If Vax was willing to make peace, so was he.

Vax gave a small nod before turning and walking away, his steps slow and weary.

The fight was over, and the alley, once full of tension and energy, seemed to relax along with him. The onlookers began to disperse, their excited whispers fading into the distance.

Klein, however, stood still, crossing his arms over his chest and pouting slightly.

"I haven’t even used half of my abilities,"he muttered to himself, his voice low and sulking.

He had been hoping for something more—a fight that would really push him to his limits. "I want to go all out and see where I truly stand.

But it seemed, for now, he would have to wait for that chance.

Klein's frustration was palpable as he contemplated his untapped potential.

His longing for a challenging opponent burned within him, fueling his desire to test the limits of his skills.

As he stood there, his mind raced with scenarios of epic battles where he could showcase the full extent of his abilities.

In one vision, Klein faced a formidable foe, their swords clashing in a symphony of steel.

Each move was calculated, each strike aimed with precision as he sought to outwit his opponent.

The thrill of combat surged through his veins, pushing him to new heights of excellence.

  • Chapter 84: Return To Antarctica

Klein returned from the Himalayas to find the world had changed in his absence. Mara met him at the Guardian facility with urgent news and a tablet full of reports."Reactan's been sighted," she said without preamble. "Three times in six weeks. Southeast Asia, South America, and Eastern Europe. She's not hiding anymore."Klein studied the reports, his enhanced perception noting patterns. "She's searching for something. Testing different locations. What's in common between these sightings?"Mara pulled up a map with the sighting locations marked. "All three sites have ancient ruins nearby. Pre-civilization structures that archaeologists can't identify. Dr. Castellan thinks they might be remnants from when True Archfiends first arrived on Earth.""She's looking for something her siblings left behind," Klein realized, Storm's inherited memories providing context. "Before the sealing, before the prison, True Archfiends maintained territories across Earth. They would have left caches,

Somehow, impossibly, he'd survived."Adequate," Feng's voice rumbled from somewhere nearby. "You lasted forty-seven minutes before losing consciousness. Not the full hour, but close enough to demonstrate determination."Klein forced his eyes open. He was lying beside the crystal lake, its waters somehow soothing his injuries. Feng loomed above him, scales glinting in impossible starlight."Most would have fallen in minutes," Feng continued. "You adapted, learned, refused to surrender even when victory was impossible. Storm chose well.""Does that mean..." Klein croaked, his throat raw. "You'll teach me?""Yes," Feng said. "I will teach you what Storm learned from me over centuries. You have six weeks before your body completes its current recovery cycle and begins pushing toward Level 18. In that t

Klein's first act as Guardian was to establish a proper base of operations. The Council provided a facility on the outskirts of the city...large enough for training, research, and housing a small team, but isolated enough for privacy.Mara took to organizing the space immediately, her systematic mind turning chaos into order. She set up a command center with monitoring equipment linked to Dr. Castellan's dimensional tracking network, designated training areas for different power types, and even a small library for ancient texts Klein had begun collecting."You're scary efficient at this," Klein observed, watching his sister coordinate contractors and tech specialists."Someone has to be," Mara replied, checking items off a digital list. "You're busy being broody and mysterious in the corner. Very Guardian-like, by the way. Very dramatic."Klein snorted. "I'm not being dramatic. I'm thinking.""Dramatically," Mara said with a grin.Despite the teasing, Klein was genuinely thinking.
