“It's a thing of pride to work as a gatekeeper in this prestigious bank. If you two are keen on working here, you must keep my name and identity from the public's ears, understood?”

“Yes, Sir!” raises his head to meet Juliet who was still whimpering on the floor, “mannerless slug, have you suddenly lost your shrieking voice? Or do you need some more sense slapping?”

“Un-derstood, sir. Understood…th-ank you,” she said tremulously.

“Good!” Kairo held his head high, as if searching for something important in the hall.

“Bring that briefcase, you snails! The young master has no time to waste here!!”

In a jiffy, one of the cashiers appeared and presented a black briefcase with trembling hands.

Kairo took the briefcase, retracted his card into his suit. As soon as he reached the door, the door opened while he was making for his card.

Kairo's insides curled with anger, his jawbones ticked, but his facial expression remained unreadable.“I have a name,” he spat with a beaming smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.“May I know your name, Mr Kairo?" Her voice reeked of sweetness and charm. She's been climbing the banking sector ladder since she graduated from college, and now she's one of the highly sought-after bank managers in the city. She was smartly dressed in a fifty-thousand-dollar black suit and pants. She stepped forward, closing the distance between her and Kairo, stretching forth her hand for a complementary remark handshake that lasted for a quick three seconds.“Yeah, that's my name. I can't remember coughing my name in these premises,” Kairo remarked, stunned, but kept the excitement off his face.“I'll explain later. This way, Mr Kairo,” she gestured her head to the left, asking Kairo to join her.The deaf could hear the exchange of sounds between her shoe heels and the crystal tiles.“So, what's the c

Kairo drove into the heart of the bustling city that had hummed like anxious bees, driving past skyscrapers and exotic cars, heading towards the bank whose name was boldly embroidered on the black card which he held.“Wait! Where are you going with that piece of chunk?” a hefty 6 feet security personnel stopped Kairo at the gate, denying him entrance. The gate men were well trained to perceive who was rich and who was just another poor thing coming to spread filth at the bank. And Kairo's brandless, rickety-looking vehicle gave him away easily; another filth.Kairo's left door wing windscreen winded down revealing him to the security personnel.“I'm here to see the manager of this bank,” Kairo responded in an icy tone. The personnel's face lighted up with a mocking laughter that reached his eyes.“Stinky audacity!! Stinky one. What makes you think that the manager will have anything doing with a commoner?”Kairo's insides boiled with rage and uncertainty that the card might be fake, n

Kairo's face flushed with disappointment and warmth on getting the news that the chemotherapy procedure was successful, after the long sixteen-hour wait.He sat bewildered while these words kept playing like a broken record in his head;”There was an underlying situation in her brain. When we cross-examined, we discovered she had developed a cyst-like grey material around her brain, which we suspect to be a tumour. I'm afraid that the brain tumour condition will interfere with her normal functioning if it grows past the ten-gram mass size, which it is at the moment.”Kairo felt like his brown pants were glued to the chair so that he couldn't raise his body.He leaned forward, adjusting his arms to grab the report file that stared at him from the big mahogany table in Doctor Winston’s office, and said in a calm and fearless tone.“How much would the operation cost?”Winston’s eyes glared wide in shock. Perhaps shocked that Kairo must have stolen from the unconscious lady he claimed to

The past days have been a pandemic for Kairo who has been taking on random criminal cases to meet up the Hospital bills, his eyes could easily give him away, his face went pale and his body lost its frame as he kept running his eyes from the blood bag to each drip that escaped the bigger volume into the cannula that was carelessly inserted into Mrs Martha’s vein. The hospital bill piled to the skies, prompting the Nurses and Doctors to treat Mrs Martha the exact way Kairo appeared.“Excuse me, Kairo..?”Kairo’s head jolted back to take in what he just heard.“Excuse you?” His brows raised to form an arc in dire surprise, “What happened to how you have been addressing me for the past weeks?”The Nurse rolled her eyes like she wasn't expecting Kairo to cough up a word about what she just said.“Do you think there's anything wrong with how I addressed a man without substance..” The nurse blurted out without any ounce of fear.Kairo's inside burned with an uncontrollable wave of anger and

“You still haven't won a single case since becoming a Barrister!”Lady Julius shierked, sending her mug flying towards Kairo who swiftly dismissed the mug's impact with a quick bend. The sound of shattered ceramic rose.“Clean that up, son of a nobody! You're better off as Kairo, the houseboy in rags you once were.” She paused to scoff and examine the figure standing adjacent to her, and continued “What changed? A few black and brown corporate wears we bought you doesn't cover who you are, a wretched thing.”Lady Julius’s breath caught flames, her chest heaved with pure hatred and disgust as she returned to her pancakes on the table.Fredrick shot dagger eyes at Kairo, who was now squatting to assemble the broken pieces of ceramics, and said.“Mother, I told you it was a bad idea to allow him to go to Law School. It has to be the waste of the century!”“I should have known…. I can't live a second longer waiting to be done with your contract here.”“Mother….?” Fredrick shifted his gaz
