Recalling the humiliating scene at the hotel last night, Henry muttered coldly to himself. Just then, his phone suddenly rang.

"Henry, where are you? The boss is here for an inspection, and we've got a meeting soon! If they find out you're not here, you can kiss this month's bonus goodbye!" Charles' anxious voice came through the phone. Charles Buck was one of Henry's few friends at the company and a college buddy from back in the day.

"I see, I'm on my way!" Henry replied. He flagged down a taxi and headed toward the company. Even though he had inherited a fortune and achieved financial freedom, he still wanted to work. After all, he wasn't the type to lose his humility just because he suddenly became rich!

Ten minutes later, Henry pushed open the conference room door, drenched in sweat. Unfortunately, he was late. Marsh Simpson, the general manager, was on stage, his large belly sticking out as he gave a speech.

As soon as Henry walked in with his backpack, everyone in the room turned to look at him, their eyes filled with amusement. Marsh also stopped speaking, glaring at Henry with a displeased expression.

"Sorry, I'm late!" Henry apologized, then quickly lowered his head and hurried toward a corner of the room.

"Stop right there!" Marsh slammed his hand on the table, reprimanding him coldly, "Henry, what do you think this place is? You're late for work by such a long time and don't take your job seriously! Or are you unhappy with your salary and decided to use work hours to deliver takeout instead?"

Noticing Jane, who was cuddled up intimately with Victor, looking flirtatious and charming, Henry felt a sting in his heart.

He and Jane had been together since college, but she had never shown him this kind of affection either at school or at work. The whole company probably knew by now that Victor had become his girlfriend's new partner!

"Alright, stop wasting time. Get to your seat now! And listen up—if this happens again, don't come back here; just go deliver takeout! I think being a delivery guy suits you better than working at our company!" Marsh waved his hand, shouting impatiently.

As the general manager, Marsh was the highest-ranking leader that regular employees interacted with the most.

He was someone who sucked up to his superiors and was harsh to his subordinates. He liked to promote people like Victor, who lacked ability but acted like a lapdog, while he looked down on hardworking employees like Henry.

Henry had been publicly humiliated by Marsh more than once. In the past, he would have been secretly angry, but now, with a net worth in the trillions and two million dollars in cash, he didn't give Marsh a second thought, his expression remaining unusually calm.

Henry scanned the room and saw Charles waving at him. He walked over with his backpack and took the seat Charles had saved for him.

On stage, Marsh continued his loud speech. Charles lightly nudged Henry's backpack on the floor beside him and whispered, "Why were you so late? And what's with the backpack? Did something happen?"

Henry didn't know how to explain and wasn't ready to tell anyone about inheriting three trillion dollars. He just shook his head slightly, indicating he was fine.

"Don't worry too much. It's just a girl! Tonight, Charles and I will go out with you for a drink. Don't sit around brooding alone!"

The man sitting on Henry's other side, a tall, slim, scholarly-looking guy with gold-rimmed glasses, chimed in. His name was Maurice Wilson, another college friend of Henry's and, like Charles, one of his few friends.

"Yeah," Henry nodded slightly, agreeing to Maurice 's suggestion. Having inherited three trillion, he had long since moved past the pain of heartbreak and wasn't as upset as Charles and Wright assumed. He just didn't want to refuse his friends' kindness.

Half an hour later, the meeting finally ended.

"The last project was well done, everyone! Mr. Simpson just praised our department and gave us a half-day off. Let's all go out and celebrate!" Maureen Torres, the marketing manager, gathered everyone and suggested with a cheerful smile.

With her sweet looks and graceful figure, Maureen was recognized as one of the top ten beauties in the company and was well-liked by both employees and clients.

Henry also had a good impression of her—not in a romantic way, but because Maureen was kind-hearted and never looked down on him for being an orphan or for his poor family background. Unlike others who bullied him for being honest, she had helped him many times.

"Great! Let's all go out, relax, and have a big meal!"

"Manager Torres's suggestion is excellent. I'm all in!"

The Marketing Department employees echoed enthusiastically.

"Henry, you should come along too. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You need to relax!" Charles said, throwing his arm around Henry's shoulders with a grin.

"Charles, why are you inviting him? He's so poor he often has to borrow money for dinner. How could he afford to join us?" said a woman next to him in a tight, short skirt with a sultry appearance, rolling her eyes in displeasure.

That was Lily Perez, a close friend of Jane's in the company. She always looked down on Henry and had often advised Jane to break up with him right in front of him.

"Lily is right! Henry is such a pauper. Not only does he not have money for the party, but he also dresses like a slob. If he comes, he'll only bring down our class. I don't want to be seen with him and be embarrassed!" added Vivian Carter, another of Jane's close friends, with a disdainful sneer.

"What's your problem, Lily, Vivian?"

"We're all colleagues here; you two shouldn't be so over the top!"

Charles and Maurice stepped in to defend Henry.

"I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking! We've had so many department and company gatherings, and he's never joined once. Isn't it because he's broke? Even if we split the bill, he can't afford it!" Lily retorted with an eye roll, while Vivian shrieked her agreement.

"Alright, we're in the same department! We shouldn't act like this! I'll cover Henry's expenses. Let him come along!" Before Charles and Maurice could continue arguing, Maureen stepped in, unable to stand it any longer.

"Thank you for your kindness, Manager Torres! I'll come to dinner today. Don't worry, I have money on me!" Henry, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke up and patted his backpack.

After several tense minutes, Victor, drenched in cold sweat, finally settled the remaining half of the bill. This brought him a bit more confidence, easing his anxious mind."Humph... It's just over eighty thousand dollars. It's not like I can't pay! Who are you trying to scare with those two security guards? What kind of service is this?" Victor slammed a hand on the table, clutching a handful of bank cards and angrily gesturing at the woman.Although it felt like his heart was bleeding, Victor put on a brave front, trying to maintain his dignity."I'm sorry, sir, that's my fault. I'll have them leave right away!" The woman waved her hand, signaling the security guards to go, then bowed apologetically to Victor, though the contempt in her eyes was hard to hide."Well, since it's over, I'll leave now!" After enjoying Victor's embarrassment, Henry stretched, stood up from his seat, and grabbed his backpack, ready to leave."Yeah, I'm leaving too!""Me too, let's go together!" Maureen i

"Huh?" Victor was still in shock from what Henry had just done, his mind completely blank. He only snapped back to reality when he heard the woman speak to him, and he looked at her with a bewildered expression."Sir, will that be cash or card?" the woman repeated with a smile, holding the bill out toward him.Henry had casually handed her a $5,000 tip, which filled her with gratitude and made her hopeful that Victor, who had promised a generous tip upon entering, would do the same."I-I need to look at the bill first…" Victor took the bill, trying to hide his panic. His eyes darted around as he frantically thought about his next step.Seeing this, the woman showed a hint of disdain in her eyes. Victor had the bill upside down, which showed that he had no money to pay and was trying to figure a way out!"Ahem… Well, you see, most of my money is tied up in the stock market, and getting it out is a hassle. Kent, why don't you cover the bill for me, and I'll pay you back later?" After a

"Hmph, let's see how long you can keep up this act!" Sitting beside Victor, Jane looked at Henry with disdain.Jane wasn't worried about Victor not being able to pay the bill. She thought that Victor might feel a bit distressed, but Henry would have to spend all his savings and end up in debt because of this meal.So what if he won this round? Their social status and wealth gap wouldn't change at all. In the end, Henry would still be a broke loser!A man who did something so foolish for the sake of saving face was just stupid!Jane sipped her wine, a cold smile playing on her lips. She felt that leaving Henry and getting together with Victor was the right choice. An hour later, everyone had finished eating and was leaning back in their chairs, sipping wine and resting."Henry, we're done eating. Go settle the bill! You're not planning on skipping out on it, are you?" Kent rubbed his bulging belly, looking at Henry with ill intent.Except for Charles, Maurice , and Maureen, who looked

Victor was pleased by the attention. Smiling, he nodded and said, pretending to be generous, "We don't have a reservation. Could you find us a larger private room? If your service satisfies me, you'll get a generous tip!"The woman's smile brightened, and she quickly explained, "Certainly, sir. We have three different types of private rooms: the regular room for 28,000 dollars, the VIP room for 58,000 dollars, and the supreme room for 88,000 dollars. Which one would you like?"Victor instinctively wanted to choose the cheapest room, but he stopped himself, remembering his goal for the day."Henry, we're all colleagues, and it's rare for us to get together. I think the regular room is too low-class. Let's go for the VIP room!" Victor suggested, looking at Henry. After all, today's bill would be split between them."No way! I disagree!""Victor, don't push it. The minimum spend for the VIP room is 58,000 dollars. If you want it, pay for it yourself!"Charles and Maurice immediately obje

Henry had never been able to afford to join gatherings because after repaying his student loans and paying rent, his monthly salary was mostly spent on Jane. Now that he no longer had Jane as a financial burden and had inherited a vast fortune, he no longer needed to be as frugal as before."Hahaha... Henry, no wonder you'd rather be late and risk losing your bonus just to go deliver takeout. Looks like you made quite a bit of money! But using work hours for your side gig and pushing your responsibilities onto your colleagues isn't right. If you ask me, you should cover the bill for this meal as an apology!" Victor said with a smirk, his arm around Jane.Even though Victor was the manager of the Marketing Department and not from the same department as Henry, Jane was his subordinate. Given his relationship with Jane and his status as a manager, no one objected to him joining the gathering."You're hilarious, Mr. Lewis! Poor Henry can't even afford to treat us to breakfast, let alone c
