Emma pushed open the front door quietly, almost hoping no one would notice she was home yet. Her mind felt heavy as Ethan’s words kept looping over and over, confusing and sharp.

Liam isn’t who he looks like… people like him hide big things… you won’t get a peaceful life with him…

She hated that the words bothered her.

She hated even more that a small part of her kept replaying that one hesitation she had, the one Ethan had noticed.

She stepped inside, slipped off her shoes, and took a deep breath.

“Emma.”

She unconsciously jumped.

Liam was leaning on the hallway archway, with his arms crossed loosely. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t cold but he was watching her carefully, like he could sense something had changed the moment she walked in.

“You left early,” he said quietly.

“Yeah.” Emma forced a small smile. “I went to see Ethan.”

Liam paused just for a fraction of a second but his expression didn’t change. He nodded once.

“How is he?”

“Fine,” she said. “Better.”

Liam studied her. Emma rea

The Harper household was unusually busy for a Saturday morning. Margaret sat in the living room with Victoria and Tara, papers spread out across the coffee table as they discussed plans for an upcoming family event. Voices echoed through the quiet house, full of the usual criticism that came with Harper “planning sessions.”Liam stepped out of the kitchen, carrying a tray of clean cups he had just washed. He wasn’t trying to listen to anything. He was simply passing through the hall when he heard Margaret say:“We should finalize the schedule before the end of the week.”He paused at the doorway, intending only to cross to the dining room but the moment he stepped into their line of sight, every conversation stopped.Margaret’s eyes narrowed instantly.“What is it this time?” she snapped. “Do you need something? Or do you simply enjoy walking into private discussions uninvited?”Liam froze mid-step, confused but still managed to remain polite. “I wasn’t trying to interrupt. I just—”V

  • CHAPTER FIFTY NINE

Emma stood in front of Ethan’s apartment door for a long moment before knocking. She almost turned back twice. Something in her chest pulled her forward again that she hadn’t sorted out yet.Ethan had been acting strange for days. He was avoiding her, shutting down conversations and looking over his shoulder as if someone was following him. And she couldn’t keep pretending she didn’t notice. She knocked once. The door opened almost immediately, like he had been standing behind it.Ethan stared at her, surprised and tired, not physically hurt anymore, but drained in a way she couldn’t explain.“…Emma,” he said quietly.“Hi.”For a few seconds, they just looked at each other. Ethan finally stepped back. “Come in.”Emma walked in, glancing around. The apartment was too clean, as if he’d spent hours scrubbing it to distract himself from something worse.“You look better,” she said.Ethan gave a stiff, emotionless smile. “I’m fine. It wasn’t that serious.”It was a lie, she could tell but

The morning sun filtered through the windows, as Liam cleared the last of the breakfast dishes. He moved calmly, stacking the plates and placing the utensils in their proper places. George, leaning against the doorway with his hands loosely clasped behind him, watched silently.“You don’t need to do that,” George said finally, his tone casual but carrying a hint of curiosity.Liam glanced up and nodded. “I like to. It keeps things clean and orderly.”“There are workers assigned to do that. Let them.” George debated.“I’m used to doing it on my own.” Liam countered. “It’s no issue.”George stepped forward. “Come outside. I want to talk to you in the garden.”Liam paused, then set the dishes aside. “Is there a problem, sir?”George gave a small smile, the first relaxed gesture Liam had seen from him. “Call me George.”Liam inclined his head in respect. “Understood, George.”They walked through the French doors and onto the lawn, the grass still slightly damp from the morning dew. The ga

  • CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN

Saturday morning felt more quiet than usual at the Harper estate. The usual movement of staff preparing for the weekend was present, but the house itself seemed to operate differently. Emma had been reading through some Titan Global documents, trying to keep her mind on work rather than Ethan or the recent chain of events. Liam, as always, moved quietly around the house, sorting through messages and checking details on his device. The front door opened and closed with a soft sound. Emma looked up, expecting a staff member or delivery, but her eyes immediately landed on the figure entering the hall. Her father stepped inside, suitcase in hand, and he was dressed neatly in a navy blazer and crisp shirt. There was nothing dramatic in his entrance, just the arrival of a man returning home from a business trip.“Emma,” he said, his voice calm and steady. “I’m home.”Emma set her papers aside, rising from her seat. She smiled genuinely. “Dad! You’re back.”He nodded, setting the suitcase

Tara never knew when to stop talking. That had always been her weakness, she liked feeling informed, connected, and important. And on that particular afternoon, sitting in a cozy café with a woman she barely knew well enough to trust, Tara’s mouth moved faster than her brain. The woman’s name was Rina. Tara only knew her through a mutual acquaintance, someone who claimed Rina worked in “corporate intelligence.” Tara assumed that meant something like private HR or data research. She didn’t bother to ask. They were supposed to be discussing harmless gossip from their workspace, but Tara slipped, as she always did, into repeating rumors she shouldn’t even know.“So apparently,” Tara said, lowering her voice dramatically, “Titan Global is paying special attention to Emma. The girl is getting too close to something big even my boyfriend, Patrick got fired because of it.”Rina’s hand paused around her cup. “Too close to what?”Tara shrugged. “I don’t know the details, but something weird ha
