CHAPTER 4

MR MANAGER'S CONTRACT

Reuben's demeanor changed.

He flashed a quick look at Louisa and then back at grandma.

He thought today was his last day as delivery man so he better as well finish his last day’s duty. A parcel was being asked to be delivered to this location so he came. But he never thought he would hear what his wife has been lying to the whole family.

Sorry grandma, I never cheated on Louisa here. In fact she is the one who cheated on me with another man. I.. ” Reuben tried to explain

But before he could finish his sentence Louisa burst into tears again abruptly cutting him short

“ It's a lie grandma, he cheated on me and now he wants to turn it up on me.

He was the one who cheated. I saw him in bed with another woman, ” Louisa said amidst crying.

Reuben frowned.

He looked surprised and confused..

Grandma ordered him to apologize

Reuben frowned and creased a brow.

He shook his head in the negative and stared blankly at grandma.

“ I don't have any apologies to make here, it's your granddaughter who is supposed to apologize to me for cheating on me and going on to tarnish my image in front of everyone here.

She's the one who's supposed to give apologies here. ” Reuben said, pointing a finger at Louisa.

Grandma's demeanour changed. She ordered the family guards to beat up Reuben and throw him out.

About ten guards quickly assembled themselves in front of Reuben, ready to deal with him.

They all charged forward at once against Reuben.

Reuben quickly maneuvered his way around dodging their blows and kicking back at them.

Within a minute, the ten guards were all down flat on their faces.

Reuben had managed to defeat the ten unsuspecting guards all at once.

The whole place became dead quiet. Even the music which was playing in the background had been stopped.

Everyone present was dumbfounded.

Reuben stood still in an easy mode as if nothing had happened.

A man came out of the astonished crowd.

Reuben recognized him at once .

He was the manager of the delivery company he (Reuben ) was working with.

The manager emerged from the crowd with an angry face. He had recognized Reuben by the clothes he was wearing. It was the attire of the delivery company.

He walked up to Reuben making sure to leave space between himself and Reuben.

In order to please grandma, he condemned Reuben.

“ Hey you, you were sent here to deliver a parcel to a client and here you are busily fighting people.

You have breached the work ethics of your job.

You are fired with immediate effect” He yelled at Reuben with an angry face.

Reuben looked unmoved by the words of his manager.

The manager flashed a side glance at grandma and noticed she was nodding in approval to his words. He knew he had gained favor from the old woman so he continued yelling .

“ Leave here now and return the company's properties to the office before evening”

Reuben sized the man with a daring stare.

He knew this man before.

The manager had tried making friends with Reuben's family for a favor but they refused him.

Reuben chuckled at the manager's words and laughed it off.

The manager was not pleased with Reuben's response to his abuse.

He was pissed off as to why Reuben laughed at him even after firing him.

“ You are laughing at me huh? You think it's funny huh? Now remove those work suits from your body now. You are from henceforth fired from the company and if you come anywhere near I'll get you arrested. '' the manager said, pointing a finger at Reuben.

Reuben smiled and began unbuttoning his work suit. He was shaking his head slightly as he was taking the suit off.

The manager continued making fun of Reuben and insulting him yet Reuben kept his cool. He just kept smiling

After getting the suits off, he walked over to the manager and handed it over to him.

Everyone present in the room looked on in amazement.

They all seemed glued to their spots and their mouths sealed.

They all looked on like they were watching a movie.

Grandma's face was not void of amazement. She never knew Reuben to be that strong hearted. She had always known Reuben to be very weak and unable to express himself. Now he was seeing a very different kind of human being altogether.

Reuben gave the suits to the manager and walked back to his place.

“ Good for you, now you will have no job and I can easily say you are useless now. ” the manager said with a laugh as Reuben walked back.

Reuben froze on a spot and turned around.

He dashed a daring look at the manager and suddenly laughed too.

“ Your contract as the manager of the delivery company has ended, right? Are you sure it is going to be extended? Reuben asked the manager with a serious face.

The manager's demeanor changed.

He was wondering how Reuben came to know that his contract has ended

‘ Well he is a staff and might have heard it from the senior staff who knew about it. ’ the manager thought to himself.

He maintained a smiley face and replied Reuben.

“ Of course yes, my contract is going to be extended because I'm not as stupid and dumb as you are. And oh , from the last time I checked it's none of your business so think about your pitiful self” the manager replied with a loud grin.

“ Don't bother about going for an extension because it will not be extended for you I tell you. Your tenure has ended Mr manager ” Reuben said with a straight face.

The manager looked puzzled as well as everyone around but he kept his face.

“ Now listen to me, Reuben. A broke ass like you cannot determine my position nor my life. You have no power to decide whether or not my contract will be extended right”

The manager said and laughed mockingly at Reuben
