“Sign the papers, Lucas. Let's stop wasting each other's time.”
Lucas Bennett looked at his wife, Victoria, then at the divorce papers on the table.
“Three years of marriage, and this is how you want to end it?”
Victoria sighed impatiently. “Must you make everything so dramatic?”
A man sitting beside her laughed. He wore a tailored suit and a watch Lucas recognized from a luxury magazine.
“Come on, man. Take a look at yourself. You have nothing. What exactly are you offering her?”
Lucas turned toward him. “I don't remember inviting you into my marriage.”
Damien Blackwood smiled. “You don't have to invite me. Your wife did.”
Victoria didn't deny it.
That hurt more than Lucas expected.
He looked at her. “So this is him?”
“Yes,” she answered without shame. “His name is Damien. He's a successful businessman, and unlike you, he can give me the lifestyle I deserve.”
Lucas almost laughed.
“Interesting. When we got married, you said you loved my ambition.”
“I was young.”
“Three years ago?”
“I've grown, Lucas. My priorities have changed.”
Damien leaned back. “People change. You should accept that you're no longer good enough for her.”
Lucas stared at him. “Does talking down to people come with your expensive suit, or is it a free gift?”
Damien's smile disappeared.
Victoria slapped her palm against the table. “Enough! This is exactly why I can't stand you anymore. You always have something to say, even when you're the one who's wrong.”
“Wrong about what?” Lucas asked. “Loving you?”
“About thinking love is enough!”
Silence settled over the room.
Lucas looked at the woman for whom he had sacrificed nearly everything.
He had transferred his savings and investments into her name. He had put the properties he owned under her ownership because she had insisted that married couples shouldn't hide things from each other.
Whenever her family mocked him for not being wealthy enough, he had worked harder.
Whenever Victoria wanted something, he had found a way to provide it.
Now she was telling him he had never been enough.
“Tell me something, Victoria.” His voice lowered. “If Damien lost his money tomorrow, would you still love him?”
She frowned. “That's a ridiculous question.”
“Answer it.”
“I don't have to explain myself to you.”
“Of course you don't. You've already explained everything.”
Damien chuckled. “Look, Bennett, I'll make this easy. Sign the papers, walk away, and stop embarrassing yourself. I'll even give you enough money to start your life again.”
He pulled out his cheque book.
Lucas stared at him.
Then he laughed.
“Keep it.”
Damien raised an eyebrow. “Pride won't pay your bills.”
“Neither will begging a man who thinks my wife is something he bought.”
Victoria stood abruptly. “How dare you speak to him like that?”
Lucas turned to her. “You're defending him now?”
“I'm defending the man who actually cares about my future!”
“And what have I been doing for the past three years? Practicing?”
She opened her mouth, but no answer came.
Lucas picked up the divorce papers.
“Where do I sign?”
Victoria blinked. “You mean it?”
“You wanted a divorce. I'm giving you one.”
For the first time, she looked uncertain.
“I thought you would at least try to convince me to stay.”
Lucas signed his name and pushed the papers toward her.
“Would you stay if I begged?”
She looked away.
“Exactly.”
He walked toward the bedroom and returned with a small suitcase.
Victoria stared at it. “That's all you're taking?”
“It's all that's left for me to take.”
“Lucas, don't act like a victim. You agreed to put those assets in my name.”
“Because I trusted my wife.”
“And now you're blaming me for your own decisions?”
He studied her face for a moment.
“No. I'm blaming myself for trusting the wrong person.”
Damien rose to his feet. “Don't come crawling back when you realize you can't survive without her.”
Lucas stopped beside the door.
“Don't flatter yourself. I survived before I met her.”
“Then why are you leaving with nothing?”
Lucas glanced at his suitcase.
“Because I'd rather start with nothing than spend another day being treated like nothing.”
For once, Damien had no clever response.
Lucas turned to Victoria.
“I hope the life you chose makes you happy.”
She folded her arms. “It will.”
“Good.”
He opened the door.
“Lucas!” she called.
He looked back.
She hesitated before asking, “Where will you go?”
He gave her a tired smile.
“Somewhere I don't have to ask permission to be respected.”
Then he left.
Outside, Lucas stood beneath the evening sky with his suitcase beside him and barely enough money in his pocket to get through the night.
His phone buzzed.
A message from his landlord appeared on the screen, reminding him that the small apartment he had rented before the marriage was no longer available.
He had no house, no investments, and no wife.
He had spent three years building a future with someone who had quietly removed him from it.
Lucas slipped his phone into his pocket.
“Fine,” he whispered. “Let's see what a man with nothing can do.”
He picked up his suitcase and walked into the night.

CHAPTER 11
The following morning, Lucas was finishing breakfast when a gentle knock sounded at his hospital room door.“Come in.”A neatly dressed man entered, carrying a slim folder. He appeared to be in his early thirties, with polished shoes, a composed expression, and a professional bearing.“Good morning, Mr. Bennett. My name is Adrian Cole. I've been assigned as your personal caretaker during your remaining stay at the hospital. I'll be available whenever you need assistance, while ensuring that you have sufficient privacy.”Lucas studied him briefly before nodding.“Good morning, Adrian. I hope you understand that I don't need someone following me around all day.”“Of course, sir. My responsibility is to make your stay more comfortable, not to make you feel crowded. I'll attend to your requests and remain available when needed. Otherwise, I'll give you space.”“Good. I think we'll get along.”Adrian confirmed Lucas's preferences, explained how to contact him, and asked whether he needed a
CHAPTER 10
[MISSION COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.]Lucas stared at the notification, and before he could say anything, the system screen transformed. A series of new messages appeared, each one more exciting than the last.[Congratulations, Host. You have successfully completed your first mission and exceeded the required expenditure. Your designated rewards have now been issued.][Reward One: Aurelius Estate.][Reward Two: $1,000 in former-value funds. The funds have been credited to your system account and are available for use.][Property acquisition and ownership transfer have been completed successfully. No further payment or auction procedure is required.]For several seconds, Lucas simply stared at
CHAPTER 9
Lucas leaned back against the pillows, scrolling through his old phone. A crack ran across one corner of the screen, and the battery seemed determined to die at the worst possible moment. He stared at it for a while before shaking his head.“If I'm going to start a new life, I might as well start properly. This phone has suffered enough, and so have I.”The system screen appeared before him.[Host, your current mission expenditure stands at $731,000. You have $269,000 remaining to reach the required expenditure of $1,000,000. The mission deadline remains active.]Lucas nodded, then remembered something he had been meaning to ask.“System, what happens if I spend more than the required amount? Will the mission be cancelled?”[No, Host. You are required to spend at least $1,000,000 from your designated bank account before the deadline. Exceeding that amount will not invalidate the mission. Once the qualifying expenditure reaches the required threshold, the mission conditions will be sat
CHAPTER 8
Lucas's stomach growled so loudly that he winced. He had been unconscious for an entire week, and throughout that time, infusions had kept him alive. Although the doctors had assured him that his condition was stable, nobody had yet given him the kind of meal he was desperately craving. Now that he had a luxurious private suite and money to spend, he was determined to change that.He pressed the call button beside his bed.A few minutes later, a professionally dressed woman entered the room with a pleasant smile.“Good morning, Mr. Bennett. I'm Clara, the private ward concierge assigned to assist you with your non-medical requests. How may I help you?”“I'm hungry,” Lucas admitted. “Terribly hungry, actually. I want a proper meal, something nutritious, delicious, and filling. Could you recommend a few dishes?”“Certainly, sir. We work with several premium restaurants, including a four-star establishment that offers private-ward dining services. I can arrange a menu for you and coordin
CHAPTER 7
Lucas stared at the mission displayed before him.[Mission: Spend $1,000,000 from your original bank account within 24 hours.][Time Remaining: 23 hours, 41 minutes.]He had already decided what he wanted to do first. After everything he had endured, he deserved to enjoy some comfort for once. If he had the money, why should he continue lying in an ordinary hospital room?“System, what is the highest accommodation level this hospital offers?”[The hospital's highest accommodation category is the Presidential Private Ward. It provides a luxury patient suite, dedicated medical personnel, premium dining arrangements, and additional personal services. The cost for a seven-day stay is $700,000, payable in advance.]Lucas's eyebrows rose. Seven hundred thousand dollars for a week? The price was outrageous, but he had no intention of spending the next several days regretting that he hadn't treated himself better.“Arrange the upgrade for me.”[The system cannot independently make personal ac

Lucas was still admiring the balance in his bank account when the system screen changed.[Host, your first official mission is ready.]He immediately straightened in bed.“Finally. I have no house, no business, and no money in my account apart from the reward you just gave me. Where exactly am I supposed to get a million dollars?”[Your transferred reward has already been converted into the current monetary scale. The mission requires you to spend one
