Ethan held his cheeks in disbelief. Did she just slap him? What was going on here? He is the one who should be offended, so why was she mad at him?

“You bastard!” He yelled and tried to attack Damian but Clara pulled him back and hit him again.

“Leave him alone! What are you doing here?” She yelled in embarrassment. “How can you break into someone's house like this?”

“You care more about that than the fact that I just saw you having sex with him? I know you are drunk, but don't you have any shame? Letting this animal take advantage of you!”

“What?” Clara laughed. “You think I am doing this because I am drunk? You are really naive, I chose to have sex with him, it was my decision!”

Ethan was in shock. “What? You are cheating on me!” the reality dawned on him.

“So what?” Clara laughed mockingly. “I knew Damian before you, so it's not really cheating.”

Ethan couldn't believe his ears, in his twenty-five years of living, he had never heard such words.

“So you don't even feel any remorse for what you have done? Regardless of our differences and your past relationship with him, you are still legally married to me, how long have you been seeing him behind me?”

Clara smiled and folded her arms. “Since you want to know, Damian and I have been having an affair for months now. We were trying to keep it a secret before to protect your fragile ego, but since it is out now, no need to hide it anymore. I am in love with him.” She said bluntly.

“What?” Ethan's voice dulled. He felt tears begin to form in his eyes but he fought it back. It wasn't just the fact that his wife had been sleeping with another man, but she had just confessed to having feelings for him as well.

“I have done everything to please you, what did I do wrong?” He begged.

“You are just not good enough, Ethan! You are too fat, you are no longer attractive, I had been managing you for the first few months of our marriage but you become less attractive with every new day. It's so irritating being with a man like you, that's why I wouldn't let you touch me, okay?”

Ethan froze, he felt his self-esteem shrinking at the spot. No one had ever made him feel so less of himself and even with all his achievements, right now he felt like he truly wasn't enough.

He looked at the half naked man on the bed and Damian grinned at him. Replaying how his wife had been moaning under that good-for-nothing man, Ethan felt broken.

“Okay,” he said softly. “If this is how you truly feel about me, then I don't see why we should continue being together,” he said, fighting back his tears.

The sting of betrayal was still fresh in his heart.

“Okay whatever, just get out of here. We were having such a good time and you just had to come ruin it!” Clara spat.

“Ignore him babe, come back to bed with me, I am still hot and ready to go another round. Mr. Vale can watch if he likes.” Damian chuckled.

Ethan finally broke down, feeling powerless, he turned and left the room. Before he even left the apartment, he could already hear Clara's loud moans, they had continued like nothing happened.

This was the highest level of disrespect. There and then, Ethan Vale decided that he had put up with Clara enough; this marriage was over for good.

**

The next day, Ethan showed up at the company headquarters with divorce papers. He had barely caught any sleep after being traumatized last night.

Discovering that his wife had been sleeping with her first love who she had constantly asked him not to worry about had left Ethan deeply wounded.

Clara frowned upon his entrance to her office. “What do you want?” She asked rudely.

She had not come home last night and he wasn't sure if she would come back today, so he decided to bring the papers to her office.

“I need you to sign these,” he said, pushing the documents to her.

She scoffed and picked up her pen, flipping the page open and ready to sign.

“Before you do that, I will advise you to read the terms. Those are divo–”

“I don't need your opinion!” Clara shunned him immediately.

Ethan was only trying to let her know that it was their divorce agreement she was about to sign. But Clara was too angry to care about what he had to say.

She was still mad that he embarrassed her by barging into the room last night and expected him to apologize before she resumed talking to him again.

After signing all sides of the agreement without reading a sentence in it, she shoved it back to Ethan.

“Take it and get lost, don't try to talk to me again unless you want to apologize for embarrassing me last night.” She said.

Ethan huffed, realizing how foolish he had been in the past to always apologize even when he clearly knew she was wrong.

He was done with that cycle of toxicity, he was done with her for good.

“I am moving out of the house today, even though I paid ninety percent of the mortgage, I have decided you should keep it.”

Clara laughed. “Am I supposed to be afraid because you sound serious? Go wherever you want, I don't care. It's a matter of time before you come running back to beg me, this time I won't forgive you so easily.” She spat.

Ethan sighed and walked away. She thought she was still dealing with the old him who would do anything to please her, but that foolish Ethan died last night, and his feelings for her died as well.

**

Ethan didn't show up at the office for four days. That night, he was about to go to bed in the hotel when his phone rang, it was Clara calling.

He hesitated but wondered if something had gone wrong at the company, so he answered.

“Ethan,” she called rudely. “So you have refused to apologize?”

Ethan didn't respond immediately, he was contemplating ending the call but he didn't.

“What do you want, Clara?” He asked coldly.

She scoffed. “I have decided to forgive you, so you can come home now,” she said with an attitude.

Ethan laughed softly.

He could immediately hear the annoyance in Clara's voice. “Why are you laughing? I am just taking pity on you, so better accept my forgiveness while I still offer it.” She spat.

“Oh Clara, have you always been like this? So selfish and obnoxious. Well, I am afraid what has been done cannot be undone. We are already divorced, so you are now free to be with your first love openly, without fear of hurting my fragile ego.” He muttered in sarcasm.

“Seriously? Are you still mad about that? You are a man, get over it. And what do you mean divorce? Just because we had a small fight doesn't mean we are divorced. Don't worry, if you come back this time, I will have sex with you once in a while, okay?”

Ethan laughed bitterly, scratching his head in thought of what he had been reduced to. A man who begs for intimacy from his wife; how shameful.

“Clara, the papers you signed four days ago were divorce papers, it has been finalized and a copy has been sent to your email. You would have known if you bothered to check.”

“What? Divorce? That's impossible, you couldn't do that!” She laughed. “Fine, I will play your game and check what's in my email.”

Clara didn't believe Ethan had the guts to divorce her, not after he begged her to marry him. She was certain that she had him wrapped around her fingers, but when she checked her emails, her blood ran cold.

“What? How is this possible? No! We can't be divorced!” She yelled.

“Why do you sound upset? Isn't that what you wanted? I don't have to irritate you anymore. Now you can be with your lover in peace. Don't worry, I will only show up at the company when it's really important, other days I will work from home, that way you won't have to worry about seeing my irritating face often.”

“You bastard! Don't try to act smart with me, I didn't give you the right to divorce me. I am the one who would decide if we get a divorce or not.” Clara flares.

“The court doesn't think so. I saved your dignity by not making this public, so if you decide to appeal the divorce agreement, then we will just have to let the whole world know that you slept with your employee on the night I secured our company's biggest deals.”

Clara growled and clenched her fist. “This is a huge insult to me, you are going to regret this, Ethan!”

With that, she hung up the call. Ethan didn't think much of it, he simply cast it off as the rants of a bitter woman with a wounded ego, but he had no idea that there was cause to worry.

Clara wasn't about to let him get away with this, she was going to ruin his whole life, or at least what was left of it.

The dirt-packed paths of the village market were bustling with the mid-morning rush, a chaotic maze of wooden stalls, colorful awnings, and the sharp aromas of fresh produce, dried spices, and livestock.Ethan walked a step behind Mary Jane, his hands casually slid into his trouser pockets. To the casual observer, he looked like an ordinary visitor; he had left his luxury SUV parked back at the farmhouse and accompanied her on foot, wearing a simple button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. But beneath his relaxed posture, his razor-sharp senses were fully engaged. As they moved past the crowded stalls, the shift in the atmosphere was instantaneous. The lively bartering died down, replaced by a toxic, heavy wave of stage-whispers and pointed glares.“Look, there she is. The shameless one,” a woman at a fabric stall muttered, nudging her neighbor.“Back from the city after getting caught, and now she’s dragging some new man around

Before he could even knock, the door creaked open.A young woman stepped out, carrying a woven basket of laundry. Don't we always? What kind of problem are we facing so early in the morning?”Mario swallowed hard, her knuckles turning white around the device. “Not just one.
