Wallace went on the offense with a battle cry and an aggressive horizontal swing. Jennifer timed the attack perfectly. Before the chains could touch her, Jennifer cartwheeled to the right and landed in a crouching position. She sent a horizontal attack of her own.

However, unlike Wallace, she was aiming for his legs. The chain in her right-hand grazed Wallace's ankle. But before a full collision, he leapt into the air, letting her chains slice past.

Jennifer, however, displayed amazing control of her weapons by pulling on the chain in her left hand, forcing it to snap back. This time Wallace was too slow, the chain wrapped around his left calf and locked onto itself. Before she could knock him off his legs, Wallace coiled his chains around his fists and attacked the chain around his leg. Jennifer's chain was separated into two pieces, one long and one short. The piece that was around Wallace's leg exploded into a cloud of black-orange smoke. Jennifer was knocked off balance, stumbling towards her opponent.

Wallace leapt into the air, the smoke below rising and partially concealing him from Jennifer.

Judging by the way she looked up, her eyes wide and searching before her, Jennifer couldn't see well. But from where I was sitting, I saw Wallace's weapons follow him in two wide arcs as he prepared to bring them like the reigns of a large beast.

Jennifer yanked on her right chain and swiped up through the dispersing cloud. Her other chain was materializing from the point it had been broken. Wallace emerged from the smoke, streams of smoke trailing behind him like a crash-landing fighter jet. Jennifer covered her face with her forearms, bracing for impact with Wallace's knees. However, Wallace's weapons preceded their user and coiled around Jennifer's forearms.

He flew overhead and landed behind her, his feet just a few inches from the white line. Behind him, Jennifer's arms were stretched out in a crucifixion-like pose. As if to give her time to process her defeat, Wallace paused…

Then he pulled on his weapons, forcing the small girl onto her back. He stood up, his chains dispersing.

He walked over to Jennifer and helped her up.

"Good stuff Wallace. At least someone has been paying attention." said Mr. Hulio.

"Jennifer, you see what I meant when I said initiating aerial combat successfully gives you an opportunity over your opponent?"

"Yes sir." she said.

She hobbled over to the bench, her hand on her back as she winced with each step.

"Right, who's next?"

There was only one question in my mind.

Am I expected to learn that?

***

After weapons training, we went for our History lesson.

The classroom very spacious; however, I didn't let a large distance grow between Daniel and I.

We walked to the back of the class. Daniel sat down but I just stood there.

"Take a seat man."

There was an empty chair next to his.

"Doesn't this belong to someone?"

"Nah bro, it's a first come first serve thing here."

"Oh, well…Okay."

The classroom filled slowly as students lazily occupied the chairs and desks.

A middle-aged woman with a generous bosom run-walked into the classroom. She was the one I saw when Ms. Luceal gave me a uniform. Her coat fanned out behind her like a chicken attempting to fly.

One of her hands was anchoring her hat while the other gripped a stack of books and paper.

"Soooo sorry class! sorry for being late."

"Morning Ms. Hernandez."

Ms. Hernandez threw her papers and books on the desk. As she fanned herself, what I feared happened again.

She looked at me and smiled.

"And you're the new student I presume?"

I said nothing as everyone turned in their seats and looked at me.

This isn't doing anything to ease my anxiety.

"Come up front and introduce yourself sweetie!"

Maan…

I rose from my seat and walked over to the front of the classroom. My heart was pounding in my chest and my ears were ringing.

"My name is David Pakati."

"Nice to meet you, David. My name is Ms. Hernandez and I'll be taking you for your first-year History class! Yaaay! Where are you from?"

"Harare, Zimbabwe."

"Ooh where is that now?"

"It's in Africa."

I noticed the lack of recognition on the multi-racial faces in front of me.

"Wow, that's nice, very exotic indeed. You can take your seat Dave."

I did.

"Okay, so where did we leave off in the last lecture?"

A physically fit guy with a crew cut blue hair raised his hand.

"Yes, Soo Yung?"

"We were about to move on the Kumlei Angwa's background."

"Ah yes! Can you open your books to..."

She flipped open one of the books on her desk,

"Page 1145"

"Uhmm..."

Ms. Hernandez scanned the classroom,

"David, why don't you read for us."

Damn.

Daniel handed me his textbook.

“Kumlei Angwa was dubbed the father of the Blessed's Association.”

The black and white picture next to his background was that of a middle-aged male with the usual coat and hat.

“Angwa is said to have rejected being a Blessed wanting to be a priest instead. This sparked a sour relationship between him and his mother, a great-sword user. However, one day while praying at a grotto, Kumlei had an encounter with a Renchi that almost ended his life. According to his journals, this changed his beliefs and perception of life itself. He began training with his mother's weapon and quickly excelled in his fighting techniques. While on a mission in the veil against an S class Oklodopus, Angwa claimed that the Renchi killed him. However, he was brought back to life…”

I was cut off by a sharp siren sound that penetrated the class. A large number of coats flew past the corridor window, boots sounding like a hail storm. I caught sight of Franny and Duke.

“Oh my, must be a big one hey!” said Ms. Hernandez.

“What’s going on?” I asked Daniel.

“That siren is an alarm. It sounds off whenever a squad is deployed to go and take care of a Renchi.”

“Come on now that's none of our business. Let us return to our lesson.” ordered Ms. Hernandez.

“Don’t forget these.”Afiro left the clothing chamber with a mountain of furs and thick cowhidepants. Fenn caught the load before it fell on the floor. “This is just going to weigh me down,” he said as he just took two furs and one pair of pants.“Fii is not that cold this time of the total cycle.”Afiro picked up some more pants and nudged Fenn aside as she stuffed them in the large trunk.“I highly doubt that a place known as the Forest of Ghosts is warm and sunny, my king…”He chuckled at that.“Well, I’m sure this is enough.”He force-closed the trunk. He placed both hands on the black oak and whispered, 'Shrink.' The trunk shrank to the length of a cigarette and the thickness of a slice of bread.“So why were you talking about being weighed down?”He made way for her and gestured to the shrunken trunk.“Be my guest.”She laughed as she bent down and grabbed it with her thumb and index finger.“I know I’m petite, but not that…”She strained and grunted. The trunk didn't even move

Even the warmth of the library was not enough to chase out the chill. The cold of whatever the place he was transported to by that…creature had settled itself deep into his bones. He had left the upper floors and immediately descended to the library. Fenn crashed through the double doors and collapsed onto the carpet. His chest heaved and pumped as he lay on his back. “My king…” That was one of the two guards who were stationed at the Obsidian library entrance. “Close the door!” he barked. The guards immediately heeded his command. It was still nighttime, so the librarian, Genty, was still resting in his quarters. As he caught his breath and pushed himself onto his palms, he realised that he may have subconsciously sought out refuge in the library. Even as a child, when his father would attack him in a drunken fit of rage, he would run away and hide underneath Genty’s desk until his father fell asleep from too much Golden wine. He grabbed onto the edge of one of the long desks

  • CHAPTER SEVENTY-FOUR

Fenn was awoken by the sound of crashing glass. Reflexively, he rolled out of bed and whispered invisibility. When he was still in the Holy Guard, he was always good at implementing the ‘Enemy can’t attack what they can’t see’ tactic. But he was sort of disappointed to see that the cause of alarm was simply one of Afiro’s friends. The voluptuous maiden had knocked down the glass chalice that was on her side of the nightstand. The three maidens, Afiro included, were deeply embedded within a drunken slumber.Fenn sighed as he rose from his crouching position. He reached for his box of cigarettes and lit one. As he puffed, he looked back at Afiro. The conversation they had had a few cycles ago was constantly humming in the back of his mind.“Well, it seems like you’re relying on what other Ozmath have to say about everything.” He inhaled deeply and exhaled a thick orange cloud.“Why don’t you just find out what you’re not sure of by yourself?”He walked over to the chair where he had bu

  • CHAPTER SEVENTY-THREE

Fenn lifted Afiro off the ground and turned her around. He stuck his manhood in her and pounded on her tiny but firm buttocks aggressively. Her moans were soft, but the way she gripped the sheets with each stroke and the way she called him 'daddy' as he smacked her ass and played with her nipple showed that she truly was in a state of euphoria. When he felt the sweet and warm promise of release from deep within, he pinched her left bottom. She released herself from the penetration and spun around. She dropped herself to her knees before gripping Fenn’s moist and hard cock. She wrapped her lips around the tip and sucked while she jerked him off with her tiny but firm hand.“Fuuuuck!”Fenn ejaculated in her mouth. The green fluid oozed out of the corners of her mouth, but she didn't stop sucking. Not until she had forced out every last drop of semen.Fenn pushed her to the side and collapsed on the bed.He heaved heavily as Afiro joined him on the bed and placed her head on his chest.

“Today’s scripture comes from the 667th book of the Arktium.”Fenn raised the large gold-threaded tome and held it up above the gold and clay podium for the congregants to see.“Composed by the Old Prophet Yog, the one called by our Creator Ozmath, the Father of the Cult and the Lawmaker.”Fenn brought down the book onto the podium. He made the sign of reverence and kissed both pages of the scripture.“And so in those days,” he began while whispering with projection so that everyone in the Capital’s Worship Place could hear him. It’s only now that he realised that that act actually took more energy than he thought. He did every single seventh cycle, but he never put in as much effort as he is doing now.“The prophet Yog met Tog, his ancestor who had lived during the old times, the times before the war…”He caught sight of Tarrus whispering to Vemto. Vemto smirked and nodded. Tarrus pulled his robes together before fixing his posture and repaying his attention.“And Tog said, ‘Let it b

  • CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE

“During the Old times,” vibrated a deep, wise and elderly voice.“The Humans rose in an attack from their side of the Earth…”From a dark spot on the stage, to the right, emerged four teenage boys (about 15 or 16 total cycles), dressed in human clothing.“Arrgh! Let us plunder and destroy the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by the Ozmath and spit in the face of their God!”“Hoooraahh!” said the other humans in agreement. The group produced human weapons. Three of them had rusty and jagged machetes, while the leader had a spear made from black wood for its length and a rusty butcher knife tied to the end.The light cast by the stone face above swept across to the extreme left of the stage. From the darkness emerged a large and muscular teen dressed in a humble brown cloak. He raised his hands behind his back, and within them formed a three-pronged hoe. On the portion of the stage before him formed hard, untilled soil. The teen struck the earth with one heavy strike. Fragments of earth a
