The following morning, the huge mansion was quietly busy with servants running about getting their duties done. Inside the master bedroom which belonged to the chairman, a middle-aged man stood before a full-length mirror getting ready for the day with three maids standing beside him, ready to take his orders at any given time.
Mr Langley Austin was currently in his late 60s and looked very young and agile for his age, he was quite particular about his health. The grey hair on his head gave off his age which was hidden thanks to his youthful looks, he was average in height sporting 5:2 ft tall. His face looked serious, so serious that it would leave a person guessing how he looked like if he ever smiled. He looked at his reflection one more time after being fully dressed before stepping out of his bedroom without saying a word and the maids stepped out right after and closed the door. With precise steps, he walked through the hallway and made it to the dining where a feast lay untouched on the table. "Good morning, Mr chairman," the man from yesterday who was among the three men who met Ryu at the hospital stepped into the dining and bowed his head to the chairman who had yet to take a seat. "Hmm," he hummed in response to his personal assistant's greeting, "We should go check on him now, shouldn't we?" He demanded and made his way out of the dining, heading towards the guest room with his personal assistant following right behind him. They reached the guest room and stepped into it to find Ryu was still unconscious or probably fast asleep, chairman Langley tilted slightly to the side and signaled for Mr John, his assistant to go wake Ryu up. The guest room was quite empty but accommodating, it had the basic needs like a bed, and some needful pieces of furniture arranged neatly, and the walls were painted plain white. It was basically an ordinary-looking bedroom. Mr John walked towards the bed and leaned forward, with a low groan, he picked Ryu up. He carried Ryu and placed him on the couch, he then walked into the bathroom and filled an empty bucket with water, and splashed it mercilessly on Ryu, messing the place up in the process. Ryu was immediately forced awake with a loud gasp at the feeling of cold water on him, he breathed loudly as he looked around aimlessly. Chairman Langley stood by and watched without saying a word as Ryu successfully regulated his breathing and calmed his racing heart, he looked around himself, not quite understanding where he was. The first thought that crossed his mind was his mother, thinking he was still at the hospital, he looked around him again and hastily stood up. "Mum? Where's she?" He asked while staring at the two strange men standing before him, still not grasping what was going on. "She's dead and gone. Stop worrying about a dead person and get yourself together," Chairman Langley said with a straight face as if discussing something casual. Although taken aback, Ryu stared at the stranger before him as his heart slowly began to ache knowing the man before him was speaking about his mother in such a manner. "You're talking nonsense," he said and paused as he realized that this place didn't look, smell, or feel like a hospital. Then where was he? "Where am I?" He demanded as he took a step forward to be met with silence, one he didn't appreciate because Ryu wanted nothing but answers. He gritted his teeth as impatience filled him and without wasting further time, he stomped out of the bedroom. Chairman Langley turned around and stared at the slightly opened door that Ryu just dashed out of and he asked, "Has burial been conducted for her?" "Yes sir, a fake burial has been conducted for his mother, he wouldn't be able to see her body and wouldn't know she was alive. He would be directed by the hospital to her fake burial ground." Mr. John explained in detail to hear Chairman Langley hum in satisfaction. "Quickly, follow him and keep a close eye on him. I'll be going to visit his mother, everything must go according to my plans, no mistake will be tolerated," Chairman Langley said and Mr John replied with a nod and left the room to carry out his boss's orders. After relaying his orders, Chairman Langley left the room right after. As for Ryu, he roamed around the huge mansion looking for an exit with confusion written all over his face as he wondered how he even got here in the first place. The last thing he could recall was crying next to his dead mother, he couldn't remember what had happened next and it all proved to him something was very much fishy. He ignored the brief thought and continued roaming around the house in search of the exit until he bumped into a maid, he requested for the way out and she politely showed him which he was thankful for, Ryu stepped out of the mansion. He walked as fast as his legs could carry him because judging from what he was seeing, he could already tell he was far away from the town where he came from. Along the way, Ryu felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, someone was calling. He stopped walking to pull his phone out of his pocket to see who was calling, it was Richard. Ryu sighed and quickly picked up the call, thinking the heavens had sent someone to rescue him today. "Hey man, this wasn't the plan, you were supposed to be here by now. Changed your mind?" Richard asked, his tone bland and flat, one could tell he wasn't amused with the fact that Ryu could have had a change of mind. "I'm in a little bit of a situation right now and I need help, do you think you can help me this once?" Ryu asked, feeling anxious, he couldn't understand why nothing was going according to his plans. Everything just kept falling apart. He heard Richard sigh from the other end of the phone before asking what kind of help he needed. Ryu immediately explained his situation and why he needed help and of course, Richard agreed to send someone to his location to come pick him up and the call ended. A few minutes rolled by and just like Richard had promised, a taxi stopped by before where Ryu stood by the road waiting, he hopped into the taxi and it drove him to Richard's father's small furniture company. Ryu thanked the driver after he got down from the taxi and ran into the building, he was allowed entry to see Richard because the staff of the company already knew Ryu as their boss's friend. With a great sense of urgency, Ryu practically ran into the elevator that took him to the top floor where Ryu's office was situated, he barged in to find Richard seated on his chair, he appeared to be busy on his laptop. "Phew, for a moment there I thought you would change your mind, turns out I was wrong," Richard commented with a knowing smile dancing on his face. "Please sit down and have coffee with me, let's get down to business," Richard invited Ryu, pointing at a chair which Ryu quietly sat on, "Do you mind for coffee?" Richard asked, looking down at the cup filled with warm coffee placed on the table before Ryu. Ryu sighed and picked the cup up, he took a long sip from the coffee without thinking much about it and dropped the cup back on the table, and didn't notice the smirk on Richard's face. "Let me guess, you need more than a million?" Richard inquired as he leaned forward on his chair with his elbow resting on his table, looking intently at Ryu. "Yeah, for the divorce," responded Ryu after taking one more sip from the creamy warm coffee. He stared back at Richard whose eyes were solely on him but was quick to look away, feeling embarrassed about asking money from his now sworn enemy. Ryu hated how everything turned out to be, his mother wasn't supposed to be dead and he wasn't supposed to be around Richard begging for money, how did it go wrong? "Cool, give me a minute, I'll be right back, Richard replied with a smile on his face and stepped out of the office, leaving Ryu behind and alone in his own thoughts. As soon as Richard was gone, Ryu sighed and shifted on his chair, feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed. He hated this. 'What am I even doing here?' He questioned himself, he shouldn't be here especially not when his mother could be needing him now. He should be with her now that she was finally gone, with guilt slowly creeping up his chest, Ryu stood up from where he sat and made it for the door. However, before he could reach the door, a sudden feeling of dizziness immediately struck him, causing him to groan softly as he placed both his hands on his head where he felt a sharp pain. The pain soon became worse and in the next seconds, Ryu fell down with a loud thud against the floor and passed out right after. What he didn't know was that his cup of warm creamy coffee had been poisoned and kept specially for him by Richard.Latest Chapter
Hallucinating?
The grand hall glittered under golden chandeliers as soft classical music floated through the air, the kind of atmosphere meant only for people who never had to worry about money a day in their lives. Belle held Richard’s arm as they walked in together, her heels clicking confidently against the polished floor while waiters moved around with trays of wine. She loved places like this, places that reminded her she had escaped the embarrassment called her past, and tonight she felt particularly pleased seeing familiar wealthy faces greeting Richard with respect.“You see?” she whispered with a faint smile, leaning slightly toward him. “This is the life people like us are meant for. Not struggling with useless people who drag you down.”Richard smirked, accepting a glass from a passing waiter. “Some people are simply born to be stepped on. That’s reality.”Belle chuckled softly. “Imagine if that loser could see us now.”“Ryu?” Richard scoffed without even thinking about it. “He’s probably
Money Laundering.
Ryu stepped out of the car and stared at the tall glass building in front of him, his hands tucked inside his pockets as if that would somehow calm the uneasiness crawling beneath his skin. Mr. John stood beside him, already walking ahead like a man who had done this a thousand times, while Ryu lagged behind, silently wishing Drew had been the one sent with him instead. Ever since the Chairman told him he would be inspecting a branch alone, his chest had not stopped feeling tight. This was not a classroom test anymore.Inside the building, the receptionist barely spared him a glance. Her eyes moved past him and rested respectfully on Mr. John instead, and Ryu could already feel how today would go. A few staff members whispered among themselves as they walked by, their eyes lingering on him a second longer than necessary. He heard it clearly; Chairman’s pet. The words were not even said quietly enough, almost like they wanted him to hear it.They made him wait.Ten minutes turned to th
More Tasks.
Ryu stepped out of the conference room with Drew walking a few steps behind him. The hallway suddenly felt quieter than before, almost unreal after the intense atmosphere he had just endured. He stopped midway and placed his hand against the wall, letting out a long breath.“I really thought my soul left my body back there,” Ryu muttered.Drew folded his arms. “But it didn’t.”“I was shaking.”“I noticed.”“And you let me walk in there alone anyway?”Drew raised a brow. “Would you have preferred I held your hand?”Ryu shot him a look. “Don’t push your luck, old man.”For the first time since the meeting, Drew allowed a faint smile. “You did well.”Ryu blinked, slightly stunned. “That’s it? Just well? I nearly collapsed!”“You spoke. You answered. You didn’t run away. That alone was the goal today.”Ryu leaned back against the wall, staring at the ceiling. “They were looking at me like I was trash.”“They still are,” Drew replied calmly.Ryu’s head snapped toward him. “Encouraging as a
Nobody Praised Him.
The heavy door closed behind him with a soft but terrifying click that echoed louder in his ears than it actually was, and at that moment Ryu realized he was truly alone inside the battlefield Drew had prepared him for. The conference room was large, far larger than it had seemed from outside, with a long polished table stretching across the room and a massive screen mounted on the wall. Around the table sat men and women old enough to be his parents, some even his grandparents, all dressed sharply and radiating authority that suffocated the air. Their eyes followed his every movement as if measuring his worth in seconds, and he could almost hear their thoughts screaming the same thing; Who is this boy? Ryu swallowed, his throat suddenly dry, his palms damp, but remembering Drew’s words, he forced his feet to move forward instead of retreating. Each step felt unnatural, like walking on unfamiliar ground, yet he continued until he reached the empty seat at the head of the table. The

"Reality? I never chose this, I didn't even ask to be here so what are you talking about?" Ryu said, glaring at the older man. Hearing this from Ryu, Drew sighed as he had not expected for things to go this way. "Not everybody is privileged enough to choose their reality. People just find themselves in crazy situations and can do nothing about it. Some get lucky with a better life and some the total opposite. The fun thing about life is, no matter how crazy life gets, you can always get to shape your reality to how you want it. When life hands you a lemon, you turn it to lemonade or whatever it is they say." He explained, hoping for the young man to understand. "Look at you now, being scared and towering away from the reality given to you..." "I'm not scared," Ryu interrupted with an offended frown but Drew ignored him. "But the truth is, you can always change it if you want. The ability to do so is right in the palm of your hands, it's like a power we humans yield. And the only w
Reality.
Three months flew by with Ryu getting the mentorship he needed from Drew. He was taught everything he needed to know about business and about the company in general. He was given practical tests and theory exams and he passed them to both his and Drew's surprise. One month into the mentorship, Drew could already see Ryu was taking it seriously. One could tell the young man was eager to learn. The way he asked questions out of his own curiosity and the way he answered the questions asked to him, Drew knew he had buckled up. He had a good brain too, he could easily grab onto things, even the ones that seemed like they weren't there and the ones Drew had purposely made to appear so. Every single day that came, it became as if Ryu woke up with a new willpower to learn and this was impressive to Drew. During the three months of mentorship, some of Ryu's practical tests had involved him having to spend his day in the company with the Chairman. He attended meetings with the Chairman and
