Clara walked out of the elevator into the penthouse with a tired look on her face. Then stopped abruptly when she saw Mason.

He was waiting for her in the entrance, with a bottle of expensive champagne in his hand. He had a big smile on his face.

“Welcome home,” he said.

“Mason?” Clara asked, looking confused. “What is going on? Why are you so happy?”

Mason laughed and said, “forget that meeting, it is over.” Then he poured out two glasses of champagne and gave one to her.”

Dante stood in the secured lab and watched carefully as his team worked. The room was quiet except for the hum of machines and soft voices giving instructions and reports. Scientist in white coats moved in between stations where the first volunteer patients sat comfortably in medical chairs.Liam stood beside him, and watched the process closely also, then he whispered, “They are handling it well. No one seem nervous.”“Good,” Dante said. “Their comfort matters. Stress can affect the samples.”He walked over to where Dr. Chen was labeling vials of blood with a code, not names in order to protect privacy.“How is the draw going?” Dante asked.“Smoothly,” Anya said, “we have taken samples from the first six and their vials are all stable. No serious reactions.”Dante watched as a nurse gently placed a bandage on a patient’s arm. The patient—a man in his fifties smiled nervously at him.“Thank you for doing this,” Dante told him.“Thank you for the chance,” the man replied.Across the ro

They were discussing the security reports from the coffee shop meeting with Dr. Chen and everything was going perfectly. Then suddenly, a sleek black car pulled up at the hotel’s front entrance. It was the kind of car that announced someone important was inside.Mason glanced over with a curious look on his face as the driver stepped out and opened the back door.A woman stepped out. She was tall, elegant and beautiful. She wore a simple, but expensive looking dress. Amara Williams.Mason froze.Another woman stepped out behind her—a friend, probably.Mason’s mind raced. This was the worst possible place. Clara came here almost daily. She treated the place like her own living room. If she saw him with Amara…..He forced a brilliant smile on his face as Amara and her friend approached the entrance. His heart hammered violently against his ribs. Amara saw him and her eyes widened with surprise. Th

I have to.”“You can,” Dante said firmly, “you are one of the strongest people I know.”Anya nodded and softer on her chair. “I have a question before I leave.”“Ofcourse. What is it?”“The money,” she said and looked at her hands nervously. “And the help with my ex-husband’s case. What Mason’s people are offering. The Lotus group boardroom was a serene space filled with important looking men and women suits and documents, but the tension between its two largest shareholders crackled in the air. The quarterly meeting was dragging on, as Mrs. Adebayo, who is a board member in her sixties, detailed plans for the upcoming community outreach program.“….and I have taken the liberty of drafting the preliminary vendor list.” She was saying as she adjusted her glasses. “I am happy to oversee the initial stages to ensure it aligns with our brand.”Before she could finish, Mason’s voice cut through, smoothly with an edge. “That is very impressive of you Margaret. But is that not the delegation that is meant for the second shareholder’s purview?” Even though he did not look at Dante, the whole board knew what he meant. “I think it will be proper if the responsibility goes to its proper place.”A thick silence fell over the table. Then Mrs. Adebayo smiled politely, and replied cooly, “that is true, Mason.

The secure conference room at Vertex felt different after Anya’s news. The air in the room was intense. Dante sat at the head of the table, Anya and Liam sat on either side. Matthew Reed, the COO, had just joined them, with a serious expression on his face.“We have got the garage footage,” Liam said as he turned his laptop around. The black and white video showed a professional looking man approaching Anya’s car. “Clean approach. No visible force. He is good.” “And the card?” Matthew asked.Anya placed it on the table. “K. Finch. Just a number. Burner, most likely.”Dante leaned forward and steepled his fingers. “So Mason’s people have made first contact. They have chosen their pressure point. Now we decide how we play this.”“The coffee shop meeting is tomorrow at ten,” Anya said. “What should I give them?”“Something real, but not critical,” Dante replied. “The official, approved timeline for phase one human trials. Not the accelerated backup schedule. Give them dates that are alr
