Not just any demon either. This is the demon king! I recognized him from Demon Among Us.
Is this a dream? Am I dreaming?
No, this feels too real! The heat from the flames was scorching me. It felt as if I was being burnt alive.
Could this be hell?!
Did I finally bite the dust?
My body was only a ball of light energy, but still, I knew this was real.
The flames… The demon… this looks all too familiar.
This reminds me of the prologue.
This scene reminds me of the first scene in Demon Among Us where the demon king extracts fractions of his soul.
These fractions would later be the demons who would invade the hero academy.
"The seers told a prophet of an up-and-coming group of heroes. Heroes who would be strong enough to defeat me."
The demon king spoke in a strange tongue, but somehow I was able to understand him perfectly. I also had an idea of the heroes he spoke of. It was the main character of this game along with his friends.
"Your task is to stop them by any means necessary. I have given you the power, so go and do your work."
The several orbs of light began glowing softly beside me. Their light glowing brighter than the flames burning in the demon realm. Even my body was glowing. Just as bright as the others until I felt a maddening headache. It felt as if my very being was being split apart. I glanced over at the other orbs and realized they were all experiencing the same thing.
[DING!]
Suddenly, a loud noise echoed in my ears. It was similar to when you receive a notification in a game.
[Congratulations on your awakening!]
[You have obtained the demonic skill, Absolute Adaptation!]
[Skill Description:
Analysis: Allows user to analyze components and materials, whether organic or inorganic.
Mimicry: User mimics anything that he consumes. It has to be a part of his body for him to mimic it.
Mutation: Allows user to take on a form best suitable for survival. This is mostly based on the user's environment.
Skill Adaptation: Allows the MC to create basic skills that will help him to adapt to any environment and situation.]
A glowing holographic screen appeared in front of me. This is just like those novels I read when the MC gets an OP system. In the world of Demon Among Us, there were people who awakened a special skill. Those persons were called awakeners.
Each person was given one special skill, apart from the MC of course and a select few others who somehow had several special grade skills.

Suddenly, the heat was gone, and it felt as if a cool breeze washed over me. But then, a coldness began to replace the heat. It felt as if the temperature was constantly dropping. The heat resistance skill must've been blocking out all heat, and with no heat, it felt as if my body was freezing over.
[Anomaly detected! The temperature is too low. Would you like to develop a skill to adapt to this irregularity?] [Y/N]
'Yes!'
I practically screamed in my mind.

Just then, the coldness dispersed, and it was neither too hot nor too cold. My body felt cool.
The perfect temperature that allowed me to think about my current situation. Now that I had the chance to think. It was still hard to believe. I was in the world of Demon Among Us. And this muscular red-skinned monster was the demon king!
And I was one of the demons created from his soul!
The demon king raised his giant hand over my head and muttered what sounded like a magical incantation.
Immediately, magic circles with different runes and symbols manifested above our heads. The world around me turned into a haze as reality itself distorted. The only thing that remained was the sound of crackling flames until everything turned black and the world descended into silence.

"Wake up."
Just then a cold emotionless voice spoke as my mind drifted in an endless space. I wanted to answer it but before I could, a system notification popped up.
[Anomaly detected. A chronic disease has been detected in your body. You will need to adapt to survive.]
A disease? What kind of disease?
Wait, don't tell me I still have brain cancer after all this.
[Analysis complete. Adaptation will take 5 hours as your cells will need to be deleted and reconstructed in order to survive.]
"Are you tired of making your parents worry? Maybe it would be better off if you just died."
Hearing such harsh words from a cold sounding voice, I slowly began opening my eyes. For some reason, I couldn't feel my hands or my legs. My body felt paralyzed from the neck down.
"Oh, so you're finally awake."
I opened my eyes to see a girl that couldn't be older than 12. She had a cute round face, with beautiful black hair and crimson-colored eyes. She was beauty but looking at her felt as if I was looking at an emotionless robot.
Wait a second, I know these features.
She looked quite young now, but I was certain I knew who this girl was.

She once killed a horde of over a hundred demons with a single swing of her scythe. She was notorious for hating demons ever since her parents were killed by demons right in front of her. Her hate almost drove her to darkness until she met the protagonist. He was the one who brought out the goodness in her and all that crap.
