Mason was taken aback by the tone he used. It was like something came over him, something indescribable, something unidentified.
Before he could stop himself, he had already walked towards the men, his eyes trained on the lady who was skillfully dodging the blows delivered to her. But despite how good she was, she couldn't move fast. Her movements were sluggish and that's when Mason realised that she had a gunshot wound at the lower side of her chest. Her face was gradually turning pale from the blood loss and she was staggering as she struggled to block the fatal attacks from the masked men."You better mind your business and get lost unless you want to die with her." One man said after recovering from their previous shock.Something about his words irked Mason to the core."You bully a woman and dare call yourself a man!" He mocked, eyeing the men with contempt.Marching to them, he flung his fists, successfully delivering a powerful blow to one goon who immediately spat blood as the force knocked him several metres away before he collided on a wall and fell down with a thud.Everyone stilled, watching the scene play before them."The DEVIL!" One man shrieked, terror evident in his voice and expression.Mason, who was as surprised with what he just did, blinked repeatedly, trying to get his mind to stop playing games with him.He had felt a surge of power hit him before he delivered a blow and looking at the aftermath of his single blow, he couldn't believe that it was him who just did that. How's that possible? He never for once trained or even fought. He had zero experience in combat skills so how could he do that?'Might as well be out of sheer luck.' he reasoned as his alarmed eyes remained trained on the men standing in front of him with terrified expressions."How could that be? The devil is already dead. We saw his car explode." Another man argued, not willing to believe that the person before them was the notorious devil. How could that be? Although they never saw the devil in person, it was rumoured that he was a man tall and muscular, he was a giant. The man before them however was nothing compared to what the rumors said. He was young, like he was at an average of 24 years. He was dressed shabbily and appeared malnourished. What was the possibility of them seeing the devil in person?Although that seemed like a far fetched idea, they could not ignore that possibility either.Nobody was known for killing with a single blow in the underworld other than the devil himself."Then how do you explain that?" Another man chipped in, pointing at their comrade who was no longer breathing from a single blow."We should report this to capo. We can't act recklessly." A man said, his voice full of authority.Mason guessed that he must be the leader."What about the girl, commander? The captain said we should bring her back.""You can go and capture her if you don't want to see the sun set." The man referred to as commander thundered."Retreat!" He ordered and they all disappeared into the hallway.Mason released the breath he had been holding for long. He didn't know what came over him to make him do something so reckless. He didn't want to imagine what would happen to him if the men had not mistaken him for the man called the devil and he chickened out.Only he knows how fast his heart has been beating, praying that he doesn't end up butchered. His life might be miserable, but he liked it nevertheless. To him, it was better to suffer and be alive than die. He wasn't looking forward to dying soon, not when he hadn't accomplished his dreams of owning a business.Breathing deeply, he rushed to the lady who was now leaning on a wall for support as she groaned in pain.He supported her, making her lean on his body.Actually, he should have just turned a blind eye and minded his business by walking away but he just had to be a busybody and jump straight to the battle field." Miss! Miss ! Miss!!" He called out, frantically trying to get her to look at him.Looking at the wound at her ribs, he couldn't help but flinch.'That must have hurt.' he said Inwardly, not wanting to imagine how much pain the lady was in."Why would you walk on this part of the streets alone?" He questioned, laying her on the ground and trying to apply pressure on the wound to at least stop the bleeding."I don't know why I always land myself into trouble every time." He said, tearing the hem of his shirt and wrapping the wound before lifting the lady in his arms."Let's get you to the hospital." He muttered, taking hurried steps to the direction of the hospital. He had managed to successfully stop the bleeding, but that was only temporary. He knew that the lady would be needing professional help from a doctor and probably get the bullet in her removed.Running across the streets with a wounded woman in his arms, Mason did not care what others would think of him. He had a life to save and he would not care about others opinion if he could save the young lady.He arrived at the hospital and the nurses arrived with a stretcher and carried the lady away. The lady was reluctant to part with him as she clutched the fabric of his shirt while murmuring," brother, don't go."Mason pried open her hands as the nurses rushed her to the emergency theatre."Sir, fill in the patient's information and proceed to make the payment so that your sister can be treated." A voice jolted him to reality, mocking him of the irony of his life.Out of panic, Mason had made his way to the most expensive Private hospital in town. Now that he was asked to pay before the operation, he was lost for words and didn't know what to do.He obviously couldn't manage to pay up for the operation and that might put the lady's life in danger."How much?" He asked, absentminded."A thousand dollars for the deposit."

Mason adjusted in his seat, his back straight and his shoulders squared. He knew that this was a moment that required him to be at his most intimidating, to assert his authority. He took a deep breath, inhaling the faint scent of cigar smoke that hung in the air, and slowly exhaled, letting the tension settle in his chest. With every exhale, his fingers clenched. His eyes, sharp and penetrating, narrowed as he fixed his gaze on the people before him. He allowed a subtle, predatory smile to curl at the corner of his lips, a calculated display of the power he held over them."What next?" He asked nonchalantly like he wasn't planning murder."What next?" Drake asked in turn. "Don't try to act like she isn't your whore, I know all about your little love story."Mason's anger rose at the mention of the word whore but he remained composed."I'm glad you have every detail of my life like the back of your hands but here's something you don't know, you have the wrong girl. I don't know this one
Chapter 53
The chair revealed Mason dressed in an impeccably tailored suit, he leaned back in his chair, one leg crossed casually over the other. He reclined comfortably, his fingers idly tapping the armrest, and his gaze was fixed directly on the two men who stood before him, their expressions frozen in disbelief.William, his voice trembling, finally managed to speak. "You... you were here the whole time?"Mason's lips curled into a faint, enigmatic smile as he replied, "Yes, I was. It's always interesting to see what people say when they think no one is listening."Drake recomposed himself, trying to play it cool but deep down he was terrified. "What are you doing here, Mason? Shouldn't you be.." he looked him dead in the eye, "at least six feets below the ground?"Mason raised an eyebrow, "aren't you happy to see me, hm?"Drake rolled his eyes, fear building up inside him, "I want you out of here."Mason stood up, his hands hurried into his pockets as he looked at the books on the bookshelf
Chapter 52
The atmosphere in the room was charged with tension, a palpable sense of urgency hanging thick in the air. High-ranking members of different companies had assembled hastily for an emergency meeting, and anxiety ran deep among them. At the head of the long, polished table, Drake sat in a chair that radiated authority, his countenance was a mask of calculated composure. His dark, penetrating gaze surveyed the room, taking in the grim faces of those who had gathered. Despite the caliber of people gathered, Drake's demeanor remained calm, his fingers lightly drumming against the polished wood of the table. His confidence was unwavering, an evidence that he was not intimidated by their presence. As each representative presented updates and discussed potential courses of action, Drake's responses were measured and deliberate, his voice calm and collected. It was as if the emergency meeting were a routine affair, not a crisis that threatened his company. The meeting was called because o
Chapter 51
The room was filled with tension as Sandra paced back and forth in her bedroom in agitation, her cell phone clutched tightly in her trembling hand. Her face was flushed with a mix of worry and anger, and her voice quivered with frustration as she dialed a number. With each ring, her anxiety seemed to intensify, and she muttered impatiently under her breath. Finally, a click on the other end, and a faint, weak voice echoed through the line."Hello?""Sam!" Sandra practically exclaimed, her words rushing out like a tidal wave. "Are you alright?"Samantha sat still on her bed, still trying to recover from the fact that Mason could still be alive, her phone pressed to her ear as she heard the urgency and softness of Sandra's voice on the other end of the line. Her brows were furrowed in confusion, and her fingers idly twirled a strand of hair as she tried to respond. "I.." her voice quivered."Have you seen the news? You won't believe what's happening in the media!"Weakling Samantha as
Chapter 50
As the soft morning light filtered through the curtains, Samantha lay in her bed, her gaze fixed blankly on the ceiling above. The room was hushed, the sounds of early morning barely reaching her ears. Her eyes, usually vibrant, now held a distant emptiness, as if her thoughts were lost in the expanse above her.Her tousled hair spilled over the pillow, a curtain of strands framing her face. The creases on her brow hinted at a mind preoccupied by something beyond the room's confines. The gentle rise and fall of her chest marked the rhythm of her breath, a rhythm that seemed to be the only indication of life in her stillness. She stared at the ceiling above with no meaning. Her mind was adrift, carried away by currents of thoughts that were invisible to anyone else. The events of last were still fresh in her mind.A sense of vulnerability lingered around her, the vulnerability of a mind grappling with its own complexities. It was a moment suspended in time, a moment of introspection.

An hour after the scolding by Butler Martin, Mason realized what was at hand. He hadn't planned out his attack on the Huttons, Drake, Williams and Uncle Roger. The soft glow of the vintage lamp cast a warm illumination over the room, emphasizing the seriousness of the task at hand.Masons fingers drummed rhythmically on the polished surface of the desk, his mind a swirling tempest of thoughts and calculations.
