The Girl In The Dark Forest

Ashenfall was growing fast. In seven days the population went from twenty three to two hundred people. New huts were built inside the castle walls. The farm that Kael made with water creation and minor growth was now green and full of wheat that grew faster than normal wheat. Children ran around with full stomach for first time in their life.

But Kael knew green farm was not enough. They needed meat. They needed leather for clothes. They needed stronger fighters. And for that they needed to go to the dark forest.

The dark forest was at the edge of Ashenfall. It was a big forest where no one from Ashenfall village entered for many years because inside there were magic beasts. Rank d wolves, rank c bears, and deeper inside rank b monsters that even a rank knights feared.

Borne said my sovereign the dark forest is dangerous. Even with our twelve stone guardians we should not go too deep.

Kael said we must go. My third servant slot is still empty. The system said second servant slot unlocked after village quest. After kingdom level three I feel third slot is ready. I need a strong beast to make as servant. A beast that can guard our kingdom at night.

Joren said I will come with you my sovereign.

Kael nodded. He said we go tomorrow morning. Borne you stay to guard the castle and the people.

Borne knelt and said yes my sovereign.

The next morning Kael and Joren left early with two stone guardians. They walked into the dark forest. The trees were tall and dark. Sun light could not enter well. The ground was wet and full of old leaves. Birds made strange sounds.

Joren held his new sword tight. The sword was from Sir Leon knights. It was good steel. Since Joren became servant knight his strength was now c rank and he could fight rank d wolves.

They walked for one hour without seeing any beast. Kael used his sovereign sense to feel life around. He could feel small beasts hiding and running away when they felt his power. Even beasts knew a sovereign was coming.

Then they heard a sound. It was not beast sound. It was a girl screaming.

Kael and Joren ran fast to the sound. They pushed through bushes and saw a small clearing.

In the clearing a girl of about fifteen years was trapped under a fallen tree. The tree was heavy. Her leg was stuck. Her clothes were torn and dirty like she had been running for many days. Her face was pale but beautiful. Her hair was silver white which was very rare.

Around her there were three rank d wolves circling. They were growling and showing teeth. They wanted to eat her.

Joren shouted wolves. He raised his sword to attack.

Kael said wait.

The girl saw them and shouted with tears please help me. Please help.

Kael walked forward slowly. The three wolves saw him and turned to him. They growled at him. One jumped at Kael with open mouth.

Kael did not move. He looked at the wolf and said kneel.

Boom. The wolf fell to ground and whined. It could not move.

The other two wolves were scared and tried to run but Kael said kneel again. They also fell.

Joren mouth opened wide. He had never seen beasts obey like that.

Kael went to the girl and lifted the heavy fallen tree with one hand. The tree was very heavy that even five men could not lift but Kael lifted it like small wood because his ten percent mana gave him strength of s rank.

The girl was free. She tried to stand but her leg was broken and bleeding.

Kael knelt beside her and said do not be scared. I will heal you.

He put his hand on her leg and used heal and serve small power. Warm light entered her leg. Her bone fixed and bleeding stopped. She gasped because pain went away.

She looked at Kael with big eyes. She said who are you. Are you a god.

Kael said no I am Kael sovereign of Ashenfall. Who are you. Why are you alone in dark forest.

The girl started to cry again. She said my name is Lyra. I am from Willow village which is two days walk from here. Our village was attacked by empire tax collectors. They said we did not pay enough tax. They burned our houses and killed my parents. I ran into forest and was lost for three days. Then tree fell on me.

Kael felt anger inside. Tax collectors burning villages for tax. That was what empire did to weak people.

He said your village is gone. But you can come to my kingdom. Ashenfall will be your new home. No one will hurt you there.

Lyra nodded with tears and said thank you. Thank you my sovereign.

At that moment Kael felt something strange from Lyra. His gold ring eyes glowed brighter when he looked at her. He felt hidden power inside her. It was sleeping like his own power was sleeping before.

He used his sovereign sense deeper on her and saw words that only he could see.

Kael was surprised. S rank moon priestess was very rare healer class. She could heal many people at once. Exactly what his kingdom needed. Their kingdom had no healer.

He said Lyra you have power inside you. Did you know.

He helped her stand. Her leg was healed but she was still weak from hunger. Joren gave her water and bread.

As they were about to leave the forest made a loud growl. Louder than wolves. The trees shook. Birds flew away.

From deep forest a big bear walked out. It was rank c magic bear. It was three meters tall with black fur and red eyes. It was the king of this part of forest. It smelled human blood and came.

Joren raised sword and said my sovereign I will protect you.

Kael said no. This is what I was looking for.

The rank c bear roared and ran at them fast. It could break trees with its charge.

Kael stood in front of Lyra to protect her. He looked at the bear coming and used absolute dominion with ten percent mana.

He said kneel and serve.

The bear was stronger than wolves so it resisted small. It slowed but kept coming. Kael felt pain in his head because using power on rank c beast was harder.

He shouted louder kneel.

Boom. The bear fell to ground just two steps from Kael. Its red eyes became gold like Borne and Joren eyes. It submitted.

Kael put hand on bear big head and said from today you are my third servant. Your name will be Brutus.

Gold light entered bear. The bear body changed. Its black fur became darker with gold lines. Its size grew to four meters. Its rank rose from c to b. It became stronger.

System words appeared.

Third servant bound Brutus the forest guardian.

Rank c to b rank. Loyalty one hundred percent.

New skill unlocked beast communication.

Kael smiled. He climbed onto Brutus back and helped Lyra climb also. Joren climbed behind.

Brutus stood up. He was now like a small mountain.

Kael said let us go home.

The bear roared loud and ran through forest. Trees broke before it. Wolves ran away with fear. In ten minutes they were out of dark forest and saw Ashenfall castle with green fields.

The villagers at the gate saw a giant bear running to them and screamed with fear. Then they saw Kael and Joren on its back with a silver hair girl and they shouted with joy. They said sovereign has returned with a monster.

Borne came running with sword but when he saw Kael smiling on bear back he stopped and laughed. He said my sovereign you always bring surprise.

Kael jumped down and said people this is Brutus our new guardian. He will guard our kingdom at night. And this is Lyra she will be our healer.

Old Mara came and hugged Lyra like daughter. Lyra cried because she had not felt mother hug since her parents died.

Kael said Borne take Lyra to rest and give her food. Tomorrow we will see if her sealed power can wake.

Borne nodded.

That night Kael sat on his throne in origin chamber. He felt his kingdom grow again. He now had three servants Borne c rank knight, Joren c rank guardian, Brutus b rank beast. And maybe soon a moon priestess.

He looked at the throne and said system how many servant slots I have now.

Gold words appeared.

Servant slots unlimited now due to second skill. But high rank servants need more mana. Current mana ten percent can support up to ten rank servants or five b rank or one a rank.

Kael nodded. He understood. He needed to unlock more mana.

He closed his eyes and tried to unseal more. Pain came again but he endured.

Eleven percent unlocked.

Twelve percent.

He stopped with sweat on face. Slow progress but okay.

Outside the castle wall Lyra was sleeping in a new hut Old Mara made for her. In her dream moon light covered her and her silver hair glowed. Her sealed power was waking because she was now near a sovereign.

Far away in the capital Darius

got message that Ashenfall now had two hundred people and a giant bear. He broke his table with anger.
