The cold, mocking smile on Renan’s face did not belong to him.

Clarissa scrambled backward, her boots scraping frantically against the stone floor. She didn't stop until her spine hit the base of one of the deactivated stone pillars. Her hands trembled so violently she could barely keep her grip on the hilt of her dead, soot-covered blade. Her eyes, wide and dilated with an absolute, paralyzing dread, were locked on his face.

Inside his own head, Renan was screaming.

  • Chapter 27: Broken Boundaries

"You wanted the key?" Renan spat, his fingers sinking inches deep into the dense, smoking void-tendril. "Then take the whole lock!""Renan, stop!" Ereshkigal’s voice screamed inside his skull, no longer cold, no longer mocking. It was pure, unadulterated panic. "The core's internal threshold is spiking! The shadow-matter is rejecting the intake!""It isn't rejecting it!" Renan barked back, his jaw locked as black fluid leaked from his teeth. "It's suffocating on it!""Because you are holding back the purge!" Ereshkigal roared. "Look at your marrow! That white glare in the center of the core—it isn't void! It is a poison!""It's not a poison," Renan snarled, forcing his feet deeper into the stone as a wave of inverted gravity lifted massive slabs of the plaza into the sky. "It's mine!"The massive cosmic eye in the sky flickered. For the first time, the o

  • Chapter 26: Descent of the Void

The sky didn't just darken. It died.A sound like grinding tectonic plates echoed directly inside Renan’s skull, shaking the teeth in his gums. The crimson static covering the horizon tore open, revealing an infinite, starless abyss that bled through the atmosphere. The pressure hit the plaza instantly. It wasn't wind or gravity; it was a physical wall of sheer cosmic density that slammed down with the weight of a falling mountain. The concrete floor shattered into fine white powder beneath Renan’s boots."Renan!" Clarissa screamed, her voice choked and thin. She was on her hands and knees, her chest heaving as she fought for a single breath of air. "The pressure—it's crushing the whole sector!""Inside!" Renan bellowed, his voice layered with a resonant, vibrating hum. He grabbed her duster by the collar and dragged her toward the heavy, reinforced blast door of the interior shelter. "Get into the shelter vault!""I'm not... leaving you!" she gasped, her hands clawing at his arms. "T

  • Chapter 25: Shadow vs Shadow

The colossal violet eyes staring down from the fractured sky did not blink. The pressure of that gaze hit the elevated plaza like a physical weight, instantly crushing the remaining gravity anomalies. Floating chunks of concrete and sheared steel girders slammed back to the ground with a deafening, synchronized crash. The blue-violet pylon shield, which Renan had just fought so hard to weave, shattered like cheap glass, its protective lattice dissolving into harmless, static-charged dust.Beside him, Clarissa stumbled, her knees buckling as she gasped for air in the suddenly suffocating atmosphere. The wind had died completely, replaced by a freezing, pressurized silence that tasted heavily of copper and ancient dust."Renan," Clarissa choked out, her fingers clawing at the console to keep herself upright. "It’s... it’s too heavy. I can’t breathe."Renan didn't look at her. He couldn't. His eyes were locked on the sky, where the starless

  • Chapter 24: World Boss Approach

The glowing crimson letters burned into the sky, their light so intense they bled through the cracks of Clarissa’s damaged goggles. The giant, floating warning—THE FIRST FATHER OF THE VOID—flickered with unstable static, casting a bloody, unnatural glare across the ruined plaza.Renan gasped, his knees buckling as the ground beneath his boots didn’t just shake; it seemed to lose its density entirely. Chunks of concrete and shattered rebar from the plaza edge broke free, slowly drifting upward into the air as if gravity had decided to resign. His shadow, normally a silent, obedient pool at his feet, was thrashing wildly against the stone, stretching toward the sky in long, desperate fingers that he couldn't control."Renan! Get up!" Clarissa yelled, her voice barely cutting through the deafening, low-frequency hum that vibrated through the soles of their boots. She had her hands braced against a rusted ste

  • Chapter 23: The Long Road Back

The outstretched hand lingered in the freezing air, trembling. Renan stared at his fingers, half-expecting to see the black, ink-like veins crawl back across his skin, but they remained hidden beneath the surface, quiet and inert.A few feet away, Clarissa pressed herself tighter against the base of the shattered stone pillar. Her boots slid in the grey soot, seeking a purchase she couldn't find. She looked at him with a raw, visceral terror that felt heavier than any blow he had taken tonight."Clarissa," Renan whispered, his voice dry and scraping against his throat. "It's me. Really. I’m back."She didn't answer. She only flinched, her eyes darting from his face to the piles of ash that had once been living men. The silence in the colossal chamber was absolute, broken only by the faint, dying hiss of the frozen generators.Renan slowly pulled his hand back, tucking it into his jacket pocket. The rejection was a physical ache in his chest, sharper

He could see everything through his own eyes, but his perspective was skewed, elevated, and entirely disconnected from his will. He could feel his lungs expanding, his heart beating a slow, heavy rhythm, and his fingers twitching with a terrifying, effortless grace. But he wasn’t the one pulling the strings.“Let me go!”
