Stefin swallowed hard, his chest tightening. He looked at Anna, still a few steps ahead, and then back at Bob and Jerry. “…Alright,” he muttered under his breath, determination finally flickering in his eyes. He started walking after her.
Although he wasn’t really confident about it, he had no choice at this moment. He began walking slowly behind her, but the closer he tried to get, the farther she seemed to move away. It felt as though the ground itself was dragging him back, refusing to let him move forward. He already knew her name, so he called out to her while gesturing slightly with his hand to get her attention. “Anna?” he called. There was no response. He tried again. “Anna!” But still got nothing. He called out three more times, but she didn’t react at all. Finally, he glanced back over his shoulder, only to be surprised to see that his friends were right behind him, though they kept a safe distance. He wasn’t really surprised by that. Turning slightly toward them while still walking forward, he silently mouthed, “She’s ignoring me.” Bob immediately gestured with his hand again, urging him to try one more time. Stefin hesitated for a few seconds before turning back toward Anna. But before he could fully turn around, something caught his eye. A speeding truck was racing down the road behind them. Stefin froze. His jaw dropped, and the expression on his face changed instantly. For a moment, it looked like pure shock. Then he realized something. The truck wasn’t heading toward him. It was heading straight for Anna. Bob and Jerry noticed the sudden change in Stefin’s expression and quickly turned to see what had startled him. Their eyes widened. “Anna!” Stefin suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, this time with seriousness. But she still didn’t turn. Looking closer, he noticed a pair of earphones in her ears. "That’s why she didn’t hear me the entire time," Stefin realized. "She wasn’t ignoring me… she just couldn’t hear me." Without thinking, Stefin broke into a sprint. “Stefin, wait!” Bob shouted, but Stefin was already running. The roar of the truck engine grew louder as it sped down the road past him. Anna continued walking, completely unaware of the danger rushing toward her from behind. A few passersby noticed it too and tried to get her attention, but it was useless. For a split second, time seemed to slow. The truck was only seconds away from slamming into her when Stefin lunged forward, throwing himself at her with everything he had. The two of them tumbled across the pavement just as the truck blasted past them, the wind from its speed whipping around them violently. The screech of tires echoed down the street. For a moment, everything went silent. Stefin lay on the ground, breathing heavily, his heart raced wildly in his chest. Anna was now resting on his chest. Bob and Jerry, who were on the other side of the truck, ran toward them. “Are you two okay?!” Bob shouted. Stefin slowly lifted his head, still catching his breath. “…Yeah,” he muttered. "I guess." Then he looked down at Anna, realizing for the first time how close they were. Anna, who had just begun to understand what had happened, tried to process everything. Then her eyes met Stefin’s, and for a moment, time seemed to slow once again. “You… you just saved me?” she whispered softly. Stefin blinked, still trying to steady his breathing. “I… I guess I did,” he replied awkwardly. Anna slowly sat up. Although she looked shaken, she tried her best to hide it. Bob and Jerry finally closed the distance in a hurry, followed by a few passersby who had witnessed the whole thing. Bob reached them first and let out a long breath. “Man, you nearly gave us a heart attack,” he said, placing his hands on his head. “That was insane.” Jerry adjusted his glasses calmly, though even he looked slightly shaken. “That was reckless,” he said, looking at Stefin. “But… you just saved someone.” Stefin scratched the back of his head awkwardly as he slowly sat up. “I didn’t really think about it,” he admitted. “I just… moved.” Anna looked at him again, this time with a different expression—one that carried both shock and gratitude. "He just saved me?" She thought as she tried processing everything that just happened a few minutes ago. “Thank you,” she said finally, though it almost sounded like she didn’t really mean it. Stefin stretched his hand forward to help her to her feet, but she ignored it. Instead, she picked up her bag, dusted it off, and continued walking without looking back. Bob and Jerry’s eyes widened in shock, mixed with disbelief. Stefin was also surprised. His hand was still stretched out as if she were still there. His gaze remained fixed on her back as she continued walking away. A few of the passersby began whispering to each other. “How rude can one girl be?” one woman muttered. “He literally saved her life,” another person said, shaking his head. Bob clenched his fists. “Unbelievable,” he muttered. “If that were me, I’d at least say a proper thank you.” Jerry remained quiet for a moment, watching Anna disappear farther down the street. Then he pushed his glasses up slightly. His eyes narrowed as he continued staring in the direction she had gone. “Do you still want to go talk to her?” he asked quietly. “I mean, that was the whole reason you were following her in the first place.” Bob frowned immediately. “Are you seriously still asking that?” he said in confusion. “I mean, didn’t you see how she reacted? Even after Stefin risked his life to save hers.” Stefin slowly lowered his hand, still staring at the road ahead. “…No,” he replied calmly as he glanced at Jerry. A second later, he turned again toward the direction Anna had gone. “I think I’ll sit this one out.” By that time, the passersby had moved toward the truck to check on the driver after making sure Stefin wasn't hurt. It was then they discovered that the truck had lost control and its brakes had failed. A few minutes later, an ambulance arrived to take care of the driver. The paramedics also tried to check Stefin for injuries, but he insisted he was fine. “I’m really okay,” Stefin said, giving them a small nod. Once everything began to settle down, Stefin turned to his friends. “Come on, guys. Let’s go home,” he said calmly. Bob and Jerry hesitated for only a few seconds before moving. The three of them began walking in the same direction Anna had gone. But by that time, she had already walked so far ahead that they could no longer see her. For a while, none of them spoke. The evening air felt strangely heavy. But at that time the sky hadn't gone dark. Bob finally broke the silence. “I still can’t believe she just walked away like that,” he muttered. Jerry adjusted his glasses again. “People react differently to shock,” he said calmly. “Not everyone processes things the same way.” Stefin kept his eyes forward as they walked. “…Maybe,” he said quietly. But deep down, Stefincouldn’t understand why she had acted that way. In the end, he pushed the thought from his mind, and the three of them walked home almost entirely in silence. Later that evening, Anna returned to the place where Stefin had saved her. Everything remained the same, except for the truck that had nearly crushed her. “A tow truck must have come and carried it away,” she whispered to herself, her eyes scanning the area as though she were searching for something. When she got close enough to the exact spot, she stopped. Her gaze moved across the ground carefully while her left hand rested around her neck. “Where the hell is it?” she muttered in frustration, her eyes now scanning the area more frantically. “What are you looking for?” A familiar voice came from behind her, startling her slightly. The footsteps sounded behind her. But since she wasn't sure who it was she turned sharply, her heart jumping. Before her mind could catch up, her body reacted instinctively. Her hand shot out, grabbing the person and throwing him hard to the ground. “Ouch!” Stefin groaned as his back hit the pavement. “That hurts.” Anna’s eyes widened in surprise when she realized who it was. “Next time, don’t sneak up on me,” she warned, releasing his hand. “You could get hurt worse than that.”Latest Chapter
The Figure
Stefin, on the other hand, grew tired of them. “These guys don’t know when to give up… huh?” he muttered.Anna didn’t say a word in response. Instead, she raised her bow to strike, but there were too many of them. She couldn’t shoot multiple arrows because it would drain the little magical energy she had left.Since they were outnumbered and surrounded, Stefin and Anna formed a back-to-back stance without even agreeing to it.Stefin’s grip on his spear tightened, but his instincts told him there was no way he would take out these things on his own. While his gaze remained fixed on the swarm of blighted preparing to attack them, he whispered to Anna behind him. “Hey?” he said quietly.Anna didn’t answer.“Hey… you mind putting the act down for a while?” Stefin whispered again.“Don’t talk to me,” Anna replied immediately.Stefin looked surprised and confused. “You see, I don’t understand you.” He paused, then turned slightly toward Anna, ignoring the swarm of blighted in front of him.

The massive blighted advanced, each step shaking the ground beneath him. Their red markings glowed faintly, pulsing with the dark energy that seemed to warp the air around them. He tightened his grip on his sword, the blue crystals along the blade flaring brighter. “Alright,” he muttered, crouching into a ready stance. “I can you guys out.” With a sudden burst of speed, Stefin dashed forward, weaving between their attacks, his sword slashing through the air with precision. The real battle had just started, and since they entered the blighted realm, there had been no sign of Anna. The moment Stefin closed the distance between himself and the swarm of blighted, he made his first attack on the one closest to him. Although he cut into the blighted’s ribcage, it didn’t do much damage. “What the hell?” he muttered. Before he could process what had just happened, one of the blighted appeared behind him and launched a surprise attack, slamming its fist toward Stefin’s back. He reacted qui
That Was Easy
Stefin opened his mouth to speak, but before a word could leave his lips, she moved. In the blink of an eye, she was gone. Stefan’s eyes widened in shock. “She’s really fast,” he said, his jaw dropping as he spun around, trying to see where she had gone, but he couldn’t find her. He nodded to himself but didn’t say anything else. Instead, he made his way deeper into the fractured zone, hoping he could find her. Stefin walked cautiously through the crimson landscape, his boots crunching against the brittle, dark ground. The air in the blighted realm felt heavier than usual, thick with a strange tension. “Anna?” he called out, his voice echoing faintly through the empty wasteland. No response. He exhaled slowly and rubbed the back of his neck. “Figures.” Just as he took another step forward, a sharp whistle cut through the air. Stefan’s instincts reacted instantly. He twisted his body to the side as a black, spear-like spike shot past his head and slammed into the ground behind him.
I Work Alone
For a brief moment, Stefin remained lying on the ground. “Who said anything about sneaking up on you?” he groaned as he slowly tried to sit up. “I literally called out to you.” He rubbed the back of his head and looked up at her. “You know,” he added, slightly annoyed, “most people would say thank you politely after someone saves their life… not walking out on instead.” Anna crossed her arms, her expression returning to its usual calm. “I already said thank you,” she replied flatly. “Yeah,” Stefin muttered, finally getting to his feet. “You said it like you were apologizing to the air.” Anna ignored that comment and looked back at the ground, her eyes scanning the area again. Stefin noticed. “…So,” he said, dusting off his clothes, “what exactly are you looking for?” Anna didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she kept staring at the pavement as if something important had vanished. Then, a few seconds later, she spoke. “You know I could ask you the same thing… right?” “Oh, me?” he

A Date Instead
The remaining part of the school day didn’t pass quietly. In every class, students whispered about what had happened between Anna and Sonia. Some praised Anna for standing up to Sonia, while others said she had been foolish and had only gotten herself into trouble.A few hours later, the final bell rang. The sound echoed through the hallways, and the classroom instantly filled with noise, chairs scraping against the floor, students laughing, and bags being slung over shoulders.Stefin stood up slowly and slung his bag over his shoulder.Bob and Jerry walked toward him from the front row where they sat.“That was… a day,” Bob muttered, letting out a breath of relief.Jerry nodded slightly as he adjusted his glasses. “Yeah, I could say the same.” Then he glanced toward Anna’s seat by his left where she sat close to Stefin and noticed it was empty. Slowly, he turned back to Stefin, whose gaze was fixed on them. “Where is she?” Jerry asked, gesturing toward her desk with his head. “The ne
