Chapter 1

“Liora, I treated you really well. You were the absolute love of my life. Why did you have to kill me!?”

Adrian jolted awake and tried to sit up, the  old wooden bed under him creaking loudly. Sweat ran down his forehead as he  breathed hard and wiped his face with his sleeve.

For a moment he thought it was only a dream but it was not a dream. Everything that happened between him and Liora was real.

In his first life, Adrian was the only son of a powerful elder in one of the top sects of the continent. At only fourteen years old, he had already cultivated to the peak of the Body Tempering Realm and stood as the number one talent among the younger generation.

His talent was so high that many people said he would one day stand at the top of the entire cultivation world.

Liora was his childhood sweetheart and fiancée. Their fathers had been close friends for many years. Adrian and Liora grew up together, trained together, and were known as the perfect couple. Everyone believed they would become a legendary pair in the cultivation world.

Adrian never expected that Liora would be the one to kill him. After he died at her hands, time passed.

When he woke up again, he realized that five hundred years had already gone by.

The Liora from back then had risen far beyond anyone’s imagination. She had crushed all her rivals, taken control of the most powerful forces, and become the Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect,  the strongest sect on the entire continent. She now stood at the peak.

People called her the Sword Goddess. Her name alone made even old monsters lower their heads in respect.

Five hundred years ago, the great figures of the past had all faded into history. The strong ones from that era were gone. This new age belonged to her.

Adrian sat in silence, staring at his thin and weak hands. This body was nothing like his previous one. The cultivation base was almost empty. The meridians were blocked and fragile. He was no longer the genius who stood at the top of the younger generation.

He was just a discarded young master of the Vale Clan, a mid-level cultivation clan that lived under the shadow of the Heavenly Sword Sect. Everyone in the clan looked down on him.

But he remembered everything. He remembered the way Liora looked at him when she took his life. The calm voice she used when she said the strong take what they need. The feeling of his own blood filling his mouth as she walked away.

“There was only one person standing at the top now, and that was Sect Master Liora who ruled the strongest sect in the world. She was powerful in every direction. Why did she kill me? Did a woman’s heart have to be so ruthless?”

Adrian’s mind was full of questions but there was no one to answer them.

Five hundred years had passed. The seas had changed and the mountains had shifted. Almost everything was different now.

The only person who remained the same was Liora. Her cultivation was so high that she still looked young and beautiful, as if time had no power over her.

All the people who once stood beside him had already turned into yellow earth and white bones. Even the mighty figures of that era were long gone. Only pieces of their glorious stories were left, told by future generations.

“Adrian, did you have a nightmare again?”

A beautiful woman pushed the door open and walked in. She looked at Adrian, who was sitting on the bed, with a worried face.

This woman was Cora, Adrian’s mother in this life. She was a side wife of the Vale Clan Leader and had always protected her weak son as best as she could.

The original owner of this body had been a weak and sick teenager. Three days ago, he died of illness on this same bed.

After Adrian was killed by Liora, he woke up again inside this body and brought the dead teenager back to life.

Even more strangely, the original owner of this body was also named Adrian.

When he first woke up, he felt distant from Cora. In his eyes, she was just a stranger. But after three days of contact, things began to change.

Adrian gradually realized that Cora really cared about him. She was careful and gentle in everything she did.

When she saw that he had woken up from the nightmare, she immediately rushed to his room even though the weather was cold.

In his last life, Adrian had never known a mother’s love. People said his mother passed away when he was born. After being killed by Liora and waking up in this new body, he was given the chance to feel a mother’s care for the first time.

Perhaps she still did not know that her real son had already died three days ago. If he told her the truth, she might not be able to handle the shock.

Adrian looked at the beautiful woman in front of him. His eyes softened.

“Mother, there’s no need to worry about me. It was just a dream.”

Cora sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroked his forehead. Her face was full of worry.

“It’s been three nights now. You always wake up shouting at night, and every time you call out the name Liora. Who is she?”

It was impossible for Cora to connect that name to the current Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect. After Liora rose to power and took control of the strongest sect on the continent, people only spoke of her with great respect.

Almost no one dared to casually say her name. It had become something of a taboo.

“It’s not a real person,” Adrian said quietly. “You heard wrong.”

Cora sighed.

“In the future, do not call out the name Liora again, not even in your dreams. That is the name of the Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect. Calling her name without respect is a serious offense. If someone with bad intentions hears it, they could report you, and the punishment would be severe.”

Adrian gently squeezed his fingers. “Don’t worry. I won’t call that name again.”

Even though he had been born into the Vale Clan, this body had been weak and sickly since childhood. He was already sixteen years old, yet he still spent most of his days lying in bed. Cora was always afraid that his life would stay like this forever.

Just then, the sound of footsteps came from outside.

“What are you doing? This is the Inner Courtyard! Who gave you permission to barge in here?”

A servant tried to stop the person who was forcing his way in, but the intruder simply pushed him aside. The servant fell hard to the ground and cried out in pain.

The one who entered was the Seventh Young Master of the Vale Clan. He was tall and strong, with a cultivation already at the late stage of the Body Tempering Realm. A single push from him was enough to send a grown man flying.

He wore fine clothes with a dark belt around his waist. His steps were  full of arrogance as he walked into the courtyard. Behind him followed six guards with strong bodies and fierce eyes. All of them were trained fighters who belonged to the main family line of the clan.

Cora quickly calmed Adrian down, closed the door, and stepped outside. She looked at the Seventh Young Master and frowned.

“Seventh Young Master, this is the Inner Courtyard. Even if you are a direct descendant of the main line, you cannot simply force your way in.”

The Seventh Young Master lifted his chin and stared at her.

“The Matriarch has ordered it. From today, the rooms of Aunt Cora and the Tenth Brother will be moved to the Outer Courtyard. In the future, this place will no longer belong to you.”

Cora’s face changed slightly.

She had already expected that this day would come, but she did not think it would arrive so soon.

Cora’s face turned pale. She looked at the Eighth Young Master with a miserable expression.

“Is the Matriarch really going to drive a mother and son out of the Inner Courtyard so soon?”

She took a deep breath and forced herself to stay calm.

“Fine. No problem. Tomorrow I will move to the Outer Courtyard with Adrian.”

The Seventh Young Master shook his head without even pretending to be polite.

“I’m sorry,  but the Matriarch said she wants this courtyard cleared tonight. Please move to the Outer Courtyard now.”

Cora knew that Adrian’s body was too weak to handle sudden changes. She lowered her voice and spoke in a pleading tone.

“Seventh Young Master, you also know that your tenth brother is frail and sickly. The night is already late, and the weather is very cold. Can we at least wait until morning?”

The seventh Young Master smiled, but there was no kindness in it.

“Aunt Cora, there are many people in this clan, but not everyone deserves to live in a good place. Since the tenth brother is so weak and sickly, why is he still living in the Inner Courtyard?”

“If he is that fragile, maybe he should not be living in this world at all.”
