Everyone turned toward the elevator.

A man in a blue double-breasted suit stood just outside the doors. Judging by the wrinkles on his forehead and the silver streaks in his hair, he was well past sixty. His face was expressionless, yet the authority he carried filled the space like a silent command. He did not need to speak to dominate the room.

The man was none other than Louis Rivera.

“What’s all this commotion?” he asked calmly, shifting his sharp gaze to Noel as he walked toward him.

The anger Noel felt toward Luke instantly morphed into unease the moment he saw Louis. Shouldn’t the senior manager be in his office right now, waiting for the important client he mentioned earlier?

“You see, Mr. Rivera,” Noel said quickly, straightening his posture, “This man tried to sneak inside the bank and claimed he was here to meet you. I believe he’s simply using your name to roam around the building.”

Louis nodded slightly, as if acknowledging the explanation, though he was doing his best not to laugh.

It was true that Luke had come to see him. What was not true was Noel’s assumption that Luke was using his name to gain access. Those were nothing more than baseless accusations.

Earlier, while quietly waiting in his office and rehearsing what he would say once Luke arrived, Louis had received a call from the front desk. The moment he heard about the disturbance downstairs, he opened his computer and pulled up the live CCTV feed of the reception area.

At first, he felt a mix of surprise and relief when he saw Luke. But that relief quickly turned into a frown when he realized what was happening. The CCTV picked up audio, and he heard every word exchanged. When Noel ordered additional security guards to be called, Louis no longer hesitated. He headed down immediately.

“M-Mr. Rivera, thank goodness you’re here!”

Reynold rushed toward Louis with a wide smile, ignoring the redness on his cheeks. It was as if he had found a powerful ally at last.

“I’m so glad to see you again. My name is Reynold Gregory, son of Arnold and Lydia Gregory. We met once at one of the upper class family gatherings. I hope you remem—”

“What happened to your face?” Louis interrupted, clearly uninterested in Reynold’s introduction.

He had not seen the part where Luke slapped Reynold on the CCTV footage, but he already knew who was responsible.

What did this man do to anger the young master of the Cruise family this badly? Does he want his entire family erased from Quezon City?

Louis looked at Reynold as though he were nothing more than disposable trash.

Reynold froze for a moment, feeling a sting of humiliation. Louis’ reaction made it painfully clear how low he thought of the Gregory family. Still, Reynold swallowed his pride and turned toward Luke with a sinister grin.

If Louis thought so little of the Gregory family, one of Light Metrobank’s top clients, then what more did he think of Luke, who looked like nothing more than a beggar?

“This man slapped me,” Reynold complained, clutching his face. “He assaulted me. I think he’s insane. If not for Mr. Baltazar, I would’ve been beaten to death by this lunatic.”

“Yes, Senior Manager,” Noel quickly added. “This man is the reason for all this chaos. But don’t worry, I’m already handling it. I’ll make sure he’s punished properly for what he did to Mr. Gregory and for disrupting the reception area. Everything will be settled before your guest arrives.”

“Pfft.”

Everyone stiffened. Louis was clearly holding back a laugh.

“I-is there something wrong?” Noel asked cautiously.

Louis shook his head lightly and patted Noel on the shoulder. “You’re doing a great job, actually.”

Noel felt a rush of relief. Reynold did too. None of them noticed the sarcasm hidden beneath Louis’ calm tone, except for Luke.

“Who did that again?” Louis asked, pointing at Reynold’s cheek.

Reynold felt his heart soar after hearing Louis asked. As if he cared for what happened to his swollen cheek. He turned toward Luke with a smug smile.

“Him. That scumbag slapped me not once, but twice.”

‘You idiot. You actually dared to hit me? You’re already dead,’ Reynold sneered inwardly.

Even if the Gregory family was nothing compared to Louis’ status, they were still clients of this bank.

Noel stepped beside Reynold, glaring at Luke with open disgust. “Senior Manager, this man must have a screw loose, or maybe he’s simply tired of living so—”

*Smack.*

The sound echoed through the reception area. Everyone froze and turned toward Louis.

But the one who had been slapped was not Luke.

It was Reynold.

“Is that how he slapped you?” Louis asked casually, his expression now cold and unreadable.

Reynold stared at him in shock, clutching the other side of his face. He nearly fell over from the impact, and Noel had to grab him to keep him upright.

“S-Senior Manager, w-why Mr. Gregory...” Noel stopped mid-sentence when he met Louis’ icy gaze.

The entire reception area was stunned.

Why did the senior manager do that? Wasn't he supposed to punish Luke instead?

But what happened next shocked them even more.

“Young Master Luke,” Louis said, lowering himself onto one knee, “I sincerely apologize for how my subordinates treated you. Please punish me accordingly.”

The sound of jaws dropping echoed louder than the slap. It felt as though the air had been sucked out of the building.

“What is happening right now?” Monique whispered to herself, eyes wide as saucers as she looked back and forth between Luke and Louis.

Moments ago, a poor looking-like man had forced his way into the bank. That same man argued with the manager, confronted a powerful client’s son, and slapped him without hesitation. Now, instead of punishing Luke, the senior manager himself had slapped Reynold.

And now, Louis Rivera, a man respected by the elite, was kneeling like a loyal servant before someone they thought was worthless.

Monique felt her head spinning.

“Could that man be the client Mr. Rivera was waiting for?” the teller beside her whispered.

Monique slowly turned toward her, realization dawning like a thunderbolt. She swallowed hard and stared at Luke’s calm, expressionless face.

“No way. It can’t be,” she muttered, though her mind screamed otherwise.

If Luke and the mysterious client were one and the same, then her life at this bank was effectively over.

“S-Senior Manager, what are you doing? Why are you apologizing to—”

“Ignorant fools!” Louis snapped, cutting Noel off completely. “This young man is the very person I was waiting for. What right do you have to belittle and insult the young master of the Cruise family? How dare you bully him inside a bank that belongs to his family?”

Silence reigned.

No one dared to breathe after hearing what Louis said.

Luke frowned.Wasn’t it class time? Tony was supposed to be back by two.Luke placed the bags of food on the small table near the window. He had bought them for everyone in the dorm. He wanted to celebrate the end of his three-year poverty training with them, but he did not want to raise suspicions. What disgusts me is how you use your status to control the lives of those below you. You think you’re on top of the world. You believe you can do whatever you want, even ruin someone else’s life. To you, people from the lower class are just ants you can crush whenever you feel like it.”Silence swallowed the entire reception area.Even the onlooking clients felt the weight of Luke’s words.
