The irritation in Luke’s voice was clear. He wasn’t mad, just because Noel ignored him. He was mad at the way everyone treated him, all because of the way he dressed.

Noel’s expression darkened in an instant after hearing what Luke said.

Deaf?

Did this nobody seriously just call him deaf? Did this man have any idea who he was talking to? Or did he truly believe they were on the same footing?

A ripple of shock spread through the reception area.

‘Did that vagrant really just insult Mr. Baltazar? Has he completely lost his mind?’ everyone thought.

“I see,” Noel said, lips curling into a cold smile. “You’re looking for Mr. Rivera? Hmm?”

He took slow, deliberate steps toward Luke, each one heavy with pressure. Beside him, Monique instinctively stepped back.

She knew that look all too well.

Based on Noel’s expression and her familiarity with his temper, Monique was certain that Luke would regret ever opening his mouth.

Calling their bank manager deaf was practically signing his own death warrant.

She shook her head and clicked her tongue under her breath. “This guy really has a death wish,” she muttered before moving closer to her fellow teller, letting out an annoyed sigh.

Noel stopped right in front of Luke and stared him down, eyes sharp and calculating. The air in the reception area seemed to drop several degrees as silence stretched between them.

“Senior Manager Rivera is currently in his office,” Noel said coolly. “And he’s waiting for someone very, very important. Someone far more important than you.”

His tone alone was enough to make the nearby employees tense up.

“He’s expecting a Super VIP client,” Noel continued. “Do you honestly think you can just stroll around this building because you claim to know Mr. Rivera? Not everyone in this city who knows his name is known by him. Especially people like you.”

He jabbed a finger into Luke’s chest, each word dripping with disdain.

Louis Rivera himself had informed Noel earlier that day about the arrival of an extremely important client, someone from a powerful family. Everything needed to be perfect. No mistakes. No disturbances.

And yet, barely an hour later, this man showed up.

Even if someone fed Noel dog filth on a silver spoon, he would still swear that the person Louis was waiting for was not the scruffy man standing before him.

“Maybe he’s not just a beggar,” the man behind Noel chimed in with a laugh. “Maybe he just escaped from a mental hospital. Or wait, don’t tell me. You’re on the run, aren’t you?”

Luke did not react.

The man grinned wider, clearly enjoying himself.

“You’re probably right, Mr. Gregory,” Noel said, nodding in agreement. “There’s no point wasting time on trash like this.”

He turned to order the guard.

“Call the other security guards. Drag this poor bastard outside and give him a proper beating before you throw him out. Make sure he never comes back.”

Noel needed Luke gone immediately. He could not afford any scene that might leave a bad impression on their awaited client. That person could arrive at any moment.

Luke clenched his fists. Every part of him wanted to tell them the truth. To let them know this entire bank belonged to his family. That they were the ones standing on thin ice, not him. But he held back and calmed himself down.

They really would not like him when he lost his temper.

“That won’t be necessary,” Luke said calmly, releasing a slow breath. He turned toward the exit.

There would be time for this later. For now, he would simply call Philip and ask for Louis’ contact number.

He was only a step away from leaving when Noel’s voice exploded behind him.

“And where do you think you’re going?” Noel shouted. “Do you think I’ll just let you walk away after causing trouble here?”

He shot a glare at the nearby guard.

“Grab him. If you let this bastard leave, you’ll answer to me.”

Within seconds, more guards rushed in, summoned by radio.

Luke’s shoulders sagged. So this was how it would end.

He had chosen to stay humble to avoid chaos, but this arrogant manager was digging his own grave.

“This trash probably thinks he can just walk away,” the man behind Noel walked forward and laughed. “If I were the one he pissed off, he wouldn’t just get beaten. He’d be meeting the afterlife.”

Luke raised an eyebrow and turned to look at him.

Really? Was this man truly so powerful that even Noel treated him with more respect?

Luke smirked coldly. “We’ll see about that.” he said.

The man’s face stiffened. “Y-you…” His expression twisted with anger. “How dare you talk to me like that? Do you even know who I am?”

Luke shrugged. “Don’t you know yourself? Why are you asking me?”

Gasps echoed through the lobby.

‘Is this man challenging Mr. Gregory? Does he even know he's talking to a Gregory?’

Even Noel, already furious at Luke’s presence, could not hide his intrigue. He knew exactly how powerful the Gregory family was. He himself would never dare offend any of them.

Yet this man showed zero fear.

Either he was ignorant, or he simply did not care whether he lived or died.

“I think you’re not looking for Mr. Rivera,” Noel sneered. “Maybe what you’re really looking for is death.”

He smirked proudly.

“For your information, brat, this is Reynold Gregory. Eldest son of the Gregory family, the fourth richest family in Quezon City. They have deep connections in the underground world. If I were you, I’d watch my mouth.”

“Oh?” Luke replied flatly.

He could not help but laugh inwardly at fate’s twisted sense of humor. After what happened earlier at the school cafeteria, he never expected to run into Richard’s brother here.

It was almost poetic.

If the universe was handing him this opportunity on a silver platter, why not take it? He would pour all the anger he had for Richard onto Reynold. Judging by Reynold’s attitude, he seemed more than willing.

Seeing Luke fall silent, Noel and the others assumed fear had finally sunk in.

Noel smiled in satisfaction. “Scared now, aren’t you?”

Reynold stepped forward arrogantly. “Wrong person to mess with,” he said. “Kneel down and kiss my shoe, maybe I’ll show you mercy.”

He stuck one polished black shoe forward.

Luke stared at it blankly.

After three years of living like dirt, people like Reynold no longer impressed him.

Slowly, Luke stepped closer. Everyone watched, convinced he was about to submit.

Then it happened.

*Smack!*

A sharp crack echoed through the lobby. Luke’s palm slammed against Reynold’s face. Silence swallowed the room.

Did that really just happen?

Before anyone could process it, and before Reynold could even react, another slap followed.

*Smack!*

Reynold stumbled back, clutching his swollen cheek, terror written all over his face. His arrogance vanished in an instant, especially when his eyes met Luke’s.

All he saw was raw fury.

‘This man is insane. He must be really a lunatic.’ Reynold thought in panic while staring widely at Luke.

“Do something!” he screamed hoarsely.

No one moved.

“Mr. Baltazar!” Reynold yelled again.

Noel finally snapped back to reality. “What are you all standing around for?” he roared. “Stop him. Beat him to death. I’ll take full responsibility for everything.”

The guards hesitated but moved forward. They had no choice but to follow the order.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open. A man with a stern expression stepped out.

“What’s going on here?”

His calm, authoritative voice froze everyone in place.

  • Chapter 82 - Expose Them

The other applicants briefly exchanged glances, silently asking one another what Steven was trying to imply. Was he accusing the Alanis family of helping Luke cheat his way through the assessment?“That’s right. That guy must be cheating. Otherwise, how could he pass when I didn’t?” one of the failed applicants immediately chimed in, his face filled with frustration.“Yeah. There must be something off about this assessment. My scenario was difficult, but others looked way too easy,” another complained.“That’s true. Even mine felt intentionally made harder. But that guy passed without even eliminating an attacker. This is ridiculous!”“Steven is right. This is unacceptable! Give us a proper explanation on how that guy passed!”More voices followed, all echoing the same sentiment. Unsurprisingly, every single one of them belonged to those who had failed. Some simply could not accept their results. Since they had already failed, they no longer saw any reason to hold back. If anything, s

“What... was that?”One of the applicants could not help but ask, his voice filled with confusion. The others remained silent, still trying to process what Luke had just done and what it had even been for. They had seen him close his eyes for a few seconds, then casually pick up an apple and throw it toward a stall near the far end of the market. And now, he was walking in Vincent’s direction, smiling to himself as if he were quietly pleased.Only when Vincent announced that Luke had passed did it finally click in their minds. Luke had already eliminated the threat. And that realization only made things more confusing.‘He passed? He already took down the attacker? Was it the one he hit with the apple?’ they all wondered. Some of them were immediately stunned by the thought. That would mean the attacker had been positioned at a distance. None of them had expected that Luke’s scenario would involve a long-range threat.Still, many found it hard to believe. The idea itself sounded absur

  • Chapter 80 - Wanted Him To Fail

Luke’s evaluation began. Just like in the earlier scenarios, the client would act as an ordinary shopper while he accompanied her. However, unlike Natalia, who seemed to possess a sixth sense, Luke did not focus solely on the client. His attention was divided between her and their surroundings. From time to time, he calmly observed the people nearby while sharpening his hearing for anything unusual. He listened closely to fragments of conversations, trying to determine their intentions and understand why they were doing whatever currently occupied them.Three years ago, he had spent a year in the military, and he had been thrown into war almost immediately after arriving. He adapted to the battlefield faster than most, and the memories of those brutal experiences remained vivid in his mind.Because of that, he could still instinctively sense danger. He could easily tell who posed a threat and who did not. While he was observing the people around them, the client occasionally asked him

What in the world had just happened? At that moment, almost everyone froze where they stood. No one could quite believe what they had just witnessed from Natalia. What she did went far beyond their expectations. Some even felt goosebumps rise on their skin because of how precise and ruthless her performance had been. It was as if she had a pair of eyes at the back of her head.Even Vincent, who usually carried a calm and indifferent demeanor, could not stop his mouth from falling open in shock. He had also expected Natalia to fail the first phase, yet she passed it with ease.Luke, on the other hand, was no longer surprised. Still, he could not help but feel a bit impressed by the way Natalia protected her client. She genuinely cared, not only about the client’s safety, but also about her emotional state. Then a comparison suddenly formed in his mind, especially after noticing that the client had not even realized what had just happened behind her.‘What if she’s been protecting Kina

  • Chapter 78 - Natalia’s Performance

Natalia let out a quiet laugh before straightening up, making her dagger vanish once more with a simple flick of her hand.“Forget it,” she said, her expression turning serious. “Like I said, I came here for Kina. To become her bodyguard. That’s the only answer I can give you. If you’re wondering about anything else, you’d better set it aside for now. You’re not ready to know those answers yet.”Her voice was firm as she turned away and continued walking. “Just focus on getting close to her. You’ll find some of the answers you’re looking for on your own, eventually.”With that, she disappeared again in the blink of an eye, not caring at all that she had done it right in front of Luke.Luke, on the other hand, remained stunned after witnessing it once more. However, it was no longer as shocking as the first time he had seen her do it that night at his uncle’s restaurant. His gaze drifted back to where she had been standing earlier. And there she was again, calmly listening to Vincent a

Was this the effect of everything that had been happening lately, that his imagination had started running wild like this?“Everyone, come with me.”His gaze snapped forward again. Vincent instructed them to follow him for the first phase of the assessment.“Hey, kid!”Before Luke could even take a step, he subconsciously glanced back and halted when he heard a man’s voice behind him. He saw Steven, his brows tightly knit together.Luke did not bother to speak. He simply looked at him with slightly raised brows, as if waiting for Steven to say whatever he wanted.Steven stepped closer, staring at Luke with a strangely curious gaze.“Have we met before?” he asked after a moment, his eyes narrowing. After experiencing Luke’s unusual strength earlier, Steven had grown quiet, as though deep in thought, occasionally glancing at Luke while Vincent was still
