Rage rolled off from the God of War in waves, pulling every officer under his eyes maddened to the last white.

Some were already collapsing to the floor as the air had been snapped off from their lungs.

The almighty commander in chief. Fierce and looked up to by everyone, Lily livered. The whole of his being becomes like Jelly.

But he could not leave everyone to die from his incompetence. Gulps after gulps ran down his throat and fright gripped his essence.

But looking at everyone, he held on firmly to his cell phone.

"Please confirm if he's dead or not!" His voice shook in fright.

A moment of doubt crept into the mind of the supervisor.

'There's no way in the world that anything or anybody can get the commander so frightened!' He thought, staring at his contact again.

And there was no way in the world he could have mistaken the commander's voice and security-tight contact.

"Are you out of your senses or you didn't hear my instructions!" The commander thundered, bringing the young man back into consciousness.

That was his commander for sure.

The supervisor ran quickly to the gallows. His eyes searched through for the skinny man that had caught his attention early.

The executioner turned to the supervisor.

"There's something wrong with the gallons!" He muttered in fright.

"Good good!" The supervisor said with relief, his hands placed firmly on his chest getting the executioner deeply confused.

"And James Thompson?" Mayan quickly inquired when he could not find any resemblance to the young man.

"Back to the waiting room..."

"Get his name off from the list. He's going home free!"

The executioner nodded his head in obedience, not daring to argue.

Mayan drew in a deep breath of relief, returning to his cell phone.

"He's alright commander. I will process everything in a few minutes and release him!"

"You must be out of your mind!" Even the calmest of words instigated the commander's anger.

"Do you know how many lives you're playing with?" Mayan could sense the heat of the commander's rage and fear in his ears.

"Release and sort of the rest of the details later on. If the need be!" He glared through his phone.

"Okay, sir." Mayan shook off the fright, happy that he wasn't at the other end of the phone.

Whatever that had gotten the commander, known to be always calm to be this frightened, was as deadly as it could be and he didn't want to have anything to do with it.

Mayan quickly called off seven guards, a stylist, and a hairdresser to get James Thompson ready for his release in the grandest of manners.

Whoever this James of a person was, even though he didn't catch the eyes at first for the right reasons, he had to have been someone related to someone powerful.

Maybe the president of a Guild... Or the head of a battalion.

And as such, he had to be treated with as much royalty as was available to them.

"Love my head just where it is... On my neck!" Mayan muttered to himself.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the phone, Mazzle had schooled his looks back into neutrality, his gaze clear and his aura no longer suffocating everyone in the room.

But the heat from his previous rage could still be felt, and the loud buzzing of the ambulance that came to those who fainted was a constant reminder of how deadly the God of War could be.

As much as the commander wanted to act normal, his steps still shook talking to Mazzle, alongside his heart.

"Do you want to see him?" He inquired with his head bowed, not daring to look into Mazzle's eyes.

After cogitating over it for a few moments, Mazzle returned.

"Send him to his daughter. My face would be the least of faces that he wants to see at the moment."

The commander wanted to ask why Mazzle would help somebody that doesn't even like him.

But he quickly swallowed his words, remembering the events of the last few minutes.

Least he hangs himself with his own hands, alongside with everyone present there. Or maybe everyone in the city.

"I have other things to take care of!" He muttered.

"Okay God of War. If there's anything you need. I will get it done!" He noted with a bow.

Without more ado, Mazzle left the hall and headed off to the streets.

He had already contacted somebody to meet him up. The person that he had instructed to keep an eye on his family while he was away in battle.

And since he had been gone for such a long time, there were a lot of things that he needed to catch up with.

Immediately Hector sighted him from afar, and he quickly bowed.

"It's a pleasure to see you again, God of War!" He bowed.

"There's no need to be so formal!" Mazzle returned, but his demeanor spoke of every bit of formality.

"I presume that you have every bit of information that I will be needing today? I don't want you to hold back, tell me everything that happened to my wife's company and how she is so bankrupt that she cannot even pay off such a small loan she got from the Sinclairs.

And why did she even have to get such a loan in the first place!"

After taking a deep breath, Mazzle's information began.

"After you left, it was difficult for your wife emotionally but she was still finally stable.

This, the Sinclairs weren't happy about. They saw her as an asset to the family to be used to and they hated the fact that she was independent.

But she was resilient and wasn't ready to give in to their demands. So they collided with Jackson."

The name caused a whirlwind of negative emotions to rise through Mazzle's lungs. Jackson was a name that he was easily familiar with.

"And while playing sheep, Jackson worked with one of the persons that he's flirting with, the queen of the fashion and beauty world to pull her down.

Tina.. Her father is the second most powerful man in the city. And being in a trade war with someone so powerful for no reason was not easy for her.

So Kira struck a compromise that ended her... Absorbing her company into that of Tina's. And that was how she crashed!"

"And I presume Kira knows nothing about this?"

"No, she doesn't, your Highness!" The informant returned.

Jackson had always been a wolf in sheep's clothing.

"Let's give them a taste of their own medicine!" Mazzle mused.

"Contact the Beauty giant of the World... New World Beauty and informs them that the God of War would want to have a private meeting with them.

And as for my wife. Send her an email... Informing her that an overseas beauty company wants to invest in her company..." Mazzle rolled off the instructions while Hector took notes.

The spiral tunnel took them down slowly, like an elevator made of light and shifting energy. There were no walls you could actually see, and it felt less like moving through real space and more like going down through layers of memory itself."This doesn't feel real," Kira said, gripping Eren's wrist tight to keep her balance."It's not exactly real," Eren said back. "We're moving through the Drift system itself now."Elina stuck close behind them, her eyes huge as she tried to wrap her head around what she was seeing. The hallway wasn't made of metal or stone. It was built from tangled signals and data pulses, making a path through the actual framework of the Drift. They went down for almost a minute before light started spreading out ahead of them. The feeling of solid ground came back under their feet as they walked into a room so huge that the ceiling just disappeared into darkness above."Look up there," Elina whispered.Thousands of lights sparkled in groups and patterns like st

The reflection just sat there for a few seconds, totally still and clear. The black mirror's surface didn't move at all, but you could feel this weird electric buzz filling up the room. Eren stood right in front of it, not even fazed by his own face looking back at him."That's not just some regular reflection," Kira said under her breath, walking up slowly. "It's actually looking at you."She could feel this pressure building up in her ears and some strange vibrating under her feet. This wasn't just some random thing they'd found. It was like some kind of control panel, way more complicated than anything they'd run into in the Root or Vault rooms.Elina walked around the edges of the room, trying to scan the thing with her gadgets, but all her stuff just died without any warning."My equipment won't do anything near this thing," she said. "Whatever it is, it doesn't want us recording it or figuring it out."Eren lifted his hand toward the mirror, stopping just a couple inches away. T

The hills spread out like old bones across the north side of the valley, sharp ridges of rock and rusty metal from old fights that time had eaten away. Eren, Kira, and Elina moved carefully through the area, keeping their speed steady but careful."Still nothing from anybody," Kira said quietly, looking back for like the hundredth time. The air felt weird around them, not from being up high but from something invisible pushing down on everything. Every few minutes, Elina stopped to check if anyone was following them, but her gear still wouldn't work right."Whatever was guarding the Root place is still here," she said. "Like some kind of jamming that hasn't gone away yet."They got to the top of a hill that looked down at a narrow canyon filled with the leftover junk from old Freeman supply routes. Busted cargo stuff and twisted metal framework was scattered everywhere, what was left of a transport line that used to connect Freeman's northern bases."I know this spot," Eren said, look

  • Chapter 75

The air felt different when the door closed behind them. They were cut off from the room where Eren had taken his test. Outside, everything looked the same—cold, quiet, covered in thick clouds and Freeman's heavy silence. But something big had changed. When Eren walked forward, the land acted different around him. There were no shakes or things you could see, but Kira felt it like something huge finally clicking into place after being broken for years."You're different now," Kira said, looking at him hard.Eren didn't look older or tired from whatever happened in that test room. But his eyes had something new in them that wasn't there before. Not just knowing things, but carrying something heavy. The kind of knowledge that makes you see everything differently."I feel more like me," he said simply. "More than I have since this whole thing started."Kira nodded. She got it. Whatever happened during that test, he picked it himself. No point worrying about it now. If he changed, it was

The newly opened hall stretched into darkness ahead of them, its walls smooth and solid. No lights marked the path, no signs or symbols, only that single word carved above the entrance: Convergence. The air inside felt warmer than the room they had left behind, like the temperature was changing to match their presence.Eren walked first, his steps calm and sure against the stone-like floor. Under the surface, a faint current seemed to pulse, like the pathway itself was alive."This feels different," Kira said quietly, following close behind him."The whole place is responding to us," Elina added, checking her equipment. "Or maybe just to Eren."They moved deeper into the hall, which started to slope downward in a slow spiral. The drop was so exact and steady that it mixed up Elina's sense of direction. The tunnel never changed in width or height, but the feeling in their bones got heavier with each step.

  • Chapter 71

They walked quietly through the dark, using just the blue glow from their gear and what was left of Elina's scanner. The ground ahead looked all torn up and empty, like nobody had cared about it for years. "This place gives me the creeps," Kira said, watching where she stepped around loose rocks. "Something really bad went down here." "Yeah, it's totally dead," Elina said, looking at her readings. "Freeman used it for testing stuff way back, but they never put it on any maps or anything." Eren was walking in front of them, moving like he knew exactly where he was going even though he'd never been here before. Ever since they left the Root place, he'd been acting different—not bad different, just like he was listening to something the rest of them couldn't hear. "How do you even know which way to go?" Kira asked, jogging to catch up with him. "I honestly don't know," Eren said. "It's like someone stuck a GPS in my brain, but instead of directions, it's just feelings about which w
