JEERING AT HIM

Lucian tenses. His breath hitches and his heart leaps into his stomach. "Oh, these arrogant jerks again!" In frustration, he screams in his head and runs his hand through his hair. 

"The pauper is finally here, baby. You do not, in fact, lie!" Seth, Laura's new boyfriend, smiles up at her and kisses her on the cheek as his other hand roughly fondles her ass.

"I told you he'd be here while we made love last night, didn't I?" She smiles back at him seductively, and to spite Lucian much more than she has already done in her statement just now, moans out softly to his touches and kisses him back on his cheek while running her hand up and down his chest.

"He may have a new girlfriend, but who is he? What does he have? As you can see, he is still a beggar who has no choice but to work for your company! 

"Can't you tell he's tense? He must have known you own this company yet didn't have any other choice but to resume! 

"What a shameless jerk! But can we blame him anyway? He must have done it out of hunger! So wretched! Gosh, he disgusts me!"

Seth sneers at Lucian. "Karma is a bitch, isn't it, pauper? I'm still curious as to what you thought when you decided to resume work today, did you think I'd still hire a nonentity like you and allow you to work in my company?

"Or did you think I wouldn't find out my company hired a fool like you?"

He takes a breath and chuckles. "Don't you have a wealthy girlfriend? Why can't she give you a job? Has she also abandoned you? 

"I wouldn't be surprised if she's already left you; after all, poverty is contagious! I doubt she'll want to associate with someone cursed like you!"

Laura bursts out laughing. "You impress me with your words, baby," she blows him a kiss before turning to glare at Lucian, a mock grin on her face.

"A pauper like you should know his place! Your place is in the street! Go back there! We don't accept people like you over here before you contact us with your curse!"

Lucian is raging. His eyes are bloodshot and his fists are clenched. He wants to attack them but he can only puff out, turn and continue to where he was going before running into them. 

"And where do you think you are going?!" Before he can take more than two steps, Seth bellows.

Lucian turns back to him furiously. "Your company offered me a job offer because I merited it! If you will excuse me, I'll love to resume working now!"

"Haha," Seth laughs amazingly. "Are you a fool?" He scoffs jeeringly. "Which merit? What do you know? That's by the way, do you still think I'll let you work in my company even after everything I've said? 

"You must be a big fool! A nincompoop! I can never take chances with a nobody like you! Who knows what you have in mind? 

"Maybe you are only coming to work for my company because you want to embezzle my company funds! Moreover, look at how ugly and worn out your dress is, you are a disgrace to my company's prestigious dressing attic!

"And wait, you are going to HR's department, ain't you? Let me help you!" He walks away with Laura clutching lovingly to him while grinning evilly at Lucian.

But before they can fully get to the department the door opens and a young man walks out.

"Oh, we were heading to you just now. It's good you are here because I need you to do something for me! You see that guy over there," he points at Lucian who seems to be shocked at what's going on. "He is a scum! I don't want him working in my company! Terminate his contract right now or be at risk of losing your job!"

"What are you doing? I merited this job!" Lucian barks, tears stinging at the corners of his eyes. He hurries to the HR and stares up at him pleadingly. "You can't terminate my contract! I've done nothing to deserve that!"

"Hahaha, he's crying, baby," Laura jeers.

The HR doesn't know what is going on. But Seth has spoken. He can't afford to lose his job just because of a young man he doesn't seem to know personally. 

He clears his throat. "I'm sorry young man, Mr. Seth is the owner of this company and since he wants your contract terminated, there's nothing I can do about it! He has the final say! Wait here while I go bring your termination letter for reference purposes."

Lucian's breathing escalates as he watches the HR walk away without giving him a chance to speak. "You!" He growls at Seth, feeling like punching him mercilessly.

"You want to hit me? Do you have the gut?" Seth sneers. "What are you still doing here by the way? Oh, I see you are waiting for your termination letter. Hahaha!

"In case you might have in mind to begin submitting new applications, I'll advise you to forget about it because I'll let the companies all over the state know that you are a scum who can't afford to be hired! 

"All of them will reject your CV, and you will never be able to get a job! You will suffer!" 

Lucian is on fire. He is desperate to fight. But he can't help himself. Securities are everywhere! What can a destitute like him do? He recently lost a job for which he had worked so hard!

He has no choice but to leave, his tears almost falling down his cheeks.

As he walks away, Seth and Laura continue to laugh at him. After all, not even his new girlfriend could come to his aid! 

That's if she's even still with him!

"Go begging for food, fool! Hahaha," Laura can't stop laughing and jeering until Lucian's back disappears!
