At the Safe House – 9:15 A.M.

Darius stood frozen, his eyes glued to the screen as Cassia continued to scroll through the encrypted data. His breath hitched in his chest, and for a moment, the room felt as if the walls were closing in on him. His father’s name had been a ghost in his life—someone he had thought was long gone, lost to the world of shadows. To see it in black and white, written among the powerful names of those connected to Santiago, shattered his already fractured world.

“This… this can’t be right,” Darius muttered, his voice low, as if speaking the words aloud could make them less true. “My father—he’s dead. I watched him die.”

Cassia, her face pale, turned to him. “I don’t know what to tell you, Darius. But this file—these names—they’re real. This isn’t a mistake.”

Amira, still nursing her wound, limped over to the table. She placed a hand on Darius’s shoulder, her touch warm but firm. “Darius, you know your father was more than just a man in the shadows. He was involved in dangerous things, things we couldn’t even begin to understand. We don’t know the full story.”

Darius’s hands clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white. “I don’t care about the story. What I care about is the fact that Santiago has been using my father’s name, his legacy, to expand his empire. And now he’s going to use it against me.”

Cassia leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing as she processed the new information. “There’s more, Darius. Look at the dates. Your father’s involvement with Santiago’s operations—they’re recent. He’s been working with Santiago for years. The last operation listed here—two months ago—there’s a note next to your father’s name. It says ‘The Ghost.’”

“The Ghost?” Amira asked, her voice sharp with confusion. “What does that mean?”

“I don’t know,” Darius growled. “But I’ll find out. I’m not letting Santiago use my father’s name to destroy everything I’ve worked for.”

He grabbed the laptop from Cassia, his mind racing. There were too many questions now, too many things that didn’t make sense. But one thing was clear: Santiago had not only infiltrated his world, he had tangled his past with his present in a way that threatened to tear everything apart.

At Cairo , Santiago’s Compound – 10:00 A.M.

Santiago sat in the darkened room, the flickering light from a single lamp casting long shadows across the walls. He was calm, his fingers lightly tapping the edge of the desk. But his mind was far from tranquil. The information about Darius’s escape was troubling, but the revelation about Darius’s father was a game-changer.

Santiago leaned back in his chair, his lips curling into a sinister smile. “So, the prodigal son comes back to play. How interesting.”

Hector stood at attention, his eyes betraying no emotion. “Sir, should we go after them now?”

Santiago’s gaze hardened. “No. They’re already on the move. They’ll come to us, sooner or later. Let them think they have the upper hand. We’ll wait.”

“But what about the file? The one they recovered?” Hector pressed. “If they expose it—”

“Then we make sure they never get the chance,” Santiago interrupted. His voice was like ice. “Darius is not the only one with secrets. And I have people everywhere. Let’s see how long he lasts once the noose tightens around his neck.”

At the Safe House – 9:30 A.M.

Darius was pacing now, his mind working in overdrive as he processed the information from the file. The more he thought about it, the more it felt like his father had been a pawn in a much larger game, one that had pulled him into Santiago’s web long before Darius even realized. The idea that his father had been involved in operations for Santiago was hard to reconcile with the man he had known.

“I need to know what happened,” Darius muttered, more to himself than anyone else. “I need to understand why he was mixed up in this.”

Amira looked at him, her face softened by sympathy, but there was a hardness in her eyes too. “Darius, sometimes, the people we think we know—people we trust—are not who we believe them to be. Your father might have had his reasons, but the fact is, we don’t know the full story. Santiago’s not just a criminal. He’s a manipulator. He’s always been one step ahead of everyone.”

“I don’t care about his reasons,” Darius snapped, his voice rising. “I just want answers.”

Cassia stood up, wiping her hands on her pants. “I get it, Darius. But we need to focus. We don’t have time to dive into your father’s history right now. We have to deal with Santiago first. You want to make him pay for everything he’s done, and I’m with you. But we can’t let our emotions blind us. We’re walking a very fine line.”

Darius paused, taking a deep breath to steady himself. He knew Cassia was right. He couldn’t afford to lose focus. But the weight of his father’s betrayal—or whatever had happened—felt like an anchor, dragging him down.

“Alright,” Darius finally said, his voice steadying. “We’ll focus on Santiago. But I need to know what’s really going on. I need to figure out what role my father played in all of this.”

Cassia nodded. “We’ll get to that. But for now, we need a plan. We can’t stay here. Santiago’s already onto us. We need to strike before he does.”

Darius looked up, his eyes meeting hers. “Where do we go from here?”

“We go after the Ghost,” Cassia said. “Whoever he is, whatever this file means, we need to find him. If your father’s connected to Santiago, the Ghost might be the key to understanding everything.”

Darius didn’t respond immediately. He was still processing the new information, trying to piece together the puzzle that had just grown infinitely more complicated. But one thing was certain: the Ghost was a name he would follow, no matter where it led.

“We’ll start with the locations listed here,” Darius said, his fingers tapping against the laptop’s screen. “These are his last known places. If the Ghost is tied to my father, we’ll find him.”

At Cairo – Santiago’s Compound – 11:00 A.M.

Santiago’s office was eerily quiet as he stared at the large map spread out before him. The dots representing Darius’s possible locations were scattered across Egypt, each one a potential lead. Santiago’s eyes lingered on the last marked location—a remote compound hidden deep in the desert.

“Find him,” he murmured, his voice full of malice. “And when you do, bring him to me alive. I want to watch his face when he realizes his father betrayed him. I want him to see the truth before he dies.”

He stood and turned toward Hector. “Prepare the men. We move out in two hours.”

Hector nodded. “Understood.”

Santiago’s smile returned, colder than before. He wasn’t just going to kill Darius. He was going to make him suffer. And when the time came, Santiago would be the one to bring down the empire that had nearly ruined him.

At the Safe House – 10:00 A.M.

Cassia and Amira were already packing up the last of their supplies when Darius approached them, his face grim.

“We have our next move,” Darius said, his tone resolute. “We head for the desert compound. It’s the most likely place to find the Ghost. If my father was involved in operations there, then that’s where we start.”

Amira checked her sidearm, her movements sharp and precise. “Let’s go. The longer we stay here, the more time Santiago has to track us down.”

“Agreed,” Darius said, standing tall. “We leave in fifteen minutes. We need to move fast.”

As Darius gathered his own gear, a surge of determination washed over him. He had no idea what he was going to find at the compound, but one thing was clear: everything in his life had led him to this moment. This was the turning point.

And Santiago was about to learn that Darius was no longer the hunted.

He was the hunter.

She refused to acknowledge the pain, but Darius could see the subtle wince on her face each time she shifted.“Pilot,” Darius barked, his tone sharp. “Get us to the safe house. Now.”The pilot, a grizzled veteran with scars across his face, nodded without a word. He adjusted the controls, and the helicopter angled toward the next waypoint. They were heading to a nondescript safe house deep in the Egyptian countryside, one that had been used by various operatives in the past. It was far enough
