Arthur York gave his loyalty to his wife, Seraphina, and his sweat to her family business. In return, they gave him five years in prison. When jealous coworkers framed him for a crime he did not commit, Arthur expected his wife's father, George Edward, to seek the truth. Instead, George used him as a scapegoat to protect the company. Even worse, Seraphina stood in silence and watched as the guards took him away. For five years, Arthur endured the cold walls of a cell. He was stripped of his dignity and left with nothing but a burning desire for justice. On the morning of his release, he walks out of the prison gates expecting a life of poverty. He is met by a luxury car and a man in a tailored suit. The man introduces himself as a top lawyer. He hands Arthur a briefcase containing premium bank cards and legal documents. A small forgotten investment Arthur made thirteen years ago has matured. He is now the billionaire chairman of Apex Horizon Group. This is the exact company that holds the financial strings to George Edward and his business. Arthur walked into prison as a betrayed man. He walks out as the most powerful figure in the city. The people who framed him and the family that abandoned him are about to learn a harsh lesson. Arthur York is back, and he is coming for everything.

Chapter 1

The Heavy Gates

The iron gates of Blackwood Penitentiary groaned as they slid open, the harsh scrape of metal echoing against the concrete walls. Arthur York stepped across the threshold, blinking against the sudden, blinding morning sun. For five long years, his world had been measured in gray concrete and wire fences. Now, standing on the outside, the open air felt strangely heavy. He wore the same cheap, faded clothes he had arrived in, carrying a single clear plastic bag that held his entire life: a release form and a few loose coins.

Five years ago, Arthur had been a different man. He was a dedicated senior manager at Edward Enterprises, completely devoted to building a future for the company and the woman he loved. He had treasured his wife, Seraphina, and viewed her father, George Edward, as a mentor. But loyalty meant nothing in the corporate world. When a massive embezzlement scheme tore through the company's accounts, Arthur found himself at the center of a perfectly constructed trap. Forged documents, altered digital footprints, and missing funds all pointed directly at him, planted by envious colleagues who wanted him gone.

George Edward hadn’t bothered to look for the truth. He didn't investigate his loyal staff or question the glaring holes in the evidence. He simply needed a scapegoat to protect the family name and keep the company stock from plummeting, and Arthur was the perfect sacrifice.

The memory of the courtroom still burned in Arthur’s chest. He remembered the chill of the defense table, the heavy thud of the judge's gavel, and the way he had turned to look at Seraphina in the gallery. He had silently pleaded with her to speak up, to tell her father that he was innocent. Instead, she had stood there, paralyzed, watching with tear-filled but silent eyes as the guards locked the handcuffs around his wrists. She had chosen her family’s wealth and status over her husband’s freedom.

Shaking the memories from his head, Arthur gripped the plastic bag tightly and began the long walk down the gravel road toward the distant bus stop. He had no money, no home, and a name completely ruined by the press.

The deep, smooth hum of an engine broke the quiet. A sleek, black luxury sedan rolled down the dirt path, kicking up small clouds of dust before pulling up directly beside him. The tinted window slid down silently, and a man in a flawless, tailored suit stepped out into the heat. He carried himself with the quiet confidence of someone used to dealing with immense wealth.

The man took one look at Arthur's rumpled clothes and gave a respectful, low bow.

"Mr. York," the man said, his voice smooth and professional. "My name is Elias. I am the chief legal counsel for Apex Horizon Group."

Arthur paused, his posture defensive. "You have the wrong person. I just walked out of a maximum-security prison. I don't have anything for you."

Elias offered a polite, reassuring smile and walked to the back of the car. He popped the trunk and retrieved a heavy, black leather briefcase, presenting it to Arthur with both hands.

"I have the exact right person," Elias replied. "Thirteen years ago, when you were in college, you gave your life savings to a struggling roommate who was trying to launch a cloud-infrastructure startup. You wrote it off as a favor and eventually forgot the company even existed."

Arthur frowned, the faint memory resurfacing. He had given his friend a few hundred dollars out of pity, long before he had ever met the Edward family.

"That startup didn't fail, Mr. York," Elias continued, his eyes gleaming. "It expanded, bought out its competitors, and evolved into Apex Horizon Group. Today, we are the largest logistics conglomerate in the country. Because your original stake was never diluted, you are the majority shareholder. You are our Chairman."

Arthur slowly opened the latches of the briefcase. Inside sat a pristine, high-end smartphone, several premium black bank cards, and a thick stack of certified legal documents. His eyes tracked down the final page to the current valuation. The number was staggered with zeroes: four billion dollars.

"There is one more detail you should know, Chairman," Elias added, leaning in slightly. "As part of our recent market expansion, Apex Horizon Group purchased the distressed debt of several local firms. Currently, we hold over sixty percent of the financial debt belonging to Edward Enterprises."

Arthur froze, his fingers tightening against the smooth leather of the briefcase. Edward Enterprises. George Edward. The man who had stolen five years of his life to save his own skin.

A slow, cold smile spread across Arthur's face, the warmth completely gone from his eyes. The betrayal had stripped him of everything and left him for dead. But he wasn't dead. He was back, and he held the leash to his father-in-law's empire.

"Mr. York," Elias said, opening the rear door of the luxury sedan. "Where would you like to go first?"

Arthur snapped the briefcase shut and stepped into the vehicle. "Take me into the city, Elias. I have some debts to collect."
