Mordred thought that it’s an earthquake that hit the forest. He isn’t the only one, every other creature in that forest that’s sentient thought of the same thing. With how the quake spread across the whole of the forest, this is the only viable explanation that can be made. That there is an earthquake, a strong one, which suddenly hit them. However, that isn’t the case at all.
