Jonathan's face twisted, his voice ripping through the lobby.

"He's making it worse!" he shouted, pointing toward the stairwell Harvey had taken. "That man is sabotaging every remaining system we have. Does he think this is a joke? That Harvax is some playground for his amateur games?"

He spun toward the nearest security officers. "Get up there. Drag him out before he finishes destroying what's left!"

"No," Jane's voice cut across his command as she stepped forward. "I'll go myself."

Jonathan turned to her and chuckled, closing the distance between them in three strides. Then he shook his head, the false calm already cracking.

"He'll only end up filling your head with nonsense about fixing it, and you'll end up believing him–"

"Jonathan–"

"Because he's your husband."

Jane shook her head. "No, Jonathan. Leave it to me–"

"You know nothing about cybersecurity!" Jonathan suddenly blurted out, his voice loud enough that everyone in the lobby froze.

Silence fell, all conversations ceasing.

Jonathan's eyes flicked left, then right. All eyes were fixed on him now. He had just shouted down at his boss in front of the entire staff present.

He shut his eyes for a brief second, then exhaled hard. When he spoke again, the volume of his voice had dropped, but the edge remained.

"Look...I respect your position and your intelligence. But this isn't one of your strengths. Please. I'll go up there myself and see exactly what Harvey is doing."

Jane turned her face away and gave a single, tight nod. "Fine."

Jonathan pivoted toward the elevators, then stopped short. The power was still dead, so he couldn't use it.

He swore under his breath, wheeled around, and took the stairs two at a time.

With every step his resolve hardened. He would claim he caught Harvey red-handed, and accuse him of being the real source of every attack that had ever plagued the company.

He reached the main server room and roughly shoved the door open to see Harvey standing with his back to the entrance.

Jonathan couldn't help but marvel at the seemingly deep concentration Harvey displayed. But he rudely cleared his throat anyway.

"I knew it!"

Kyle didn't stop or even turn to him, but he continued. "You're fixing nothing, just finishing what you started–trying to burn this company to the ground so you can watch Jane's family humiliated."

Harvey still didn't turn.

"You really think no one sews through you? Well, I do. All those earlier attacks—convenient, weren't they? Always happening when you needed Jane sad and broken. Then you'd swoop in and try to comfort her."

Harvey finally turned, as Jonathan had just crossed the line by mentioning Jane's name. He walked toward Jonathan with the same calm he had shown in the lobby.

"What the hell are you doing?" Jonathan demanded in a slightly fearful voice, taking an involuntary step back.

"You really want me to believe that you've been the one fixing the earlier cyberattacks?" Harvey calmly asked.

"Why the hell are you asking me that?" Jonathan snapped. "Hasn't Jane told you about my accomplishments? Or does she keep you that far in the dark?"

Harvey bit his lower lip and gave the smallest shake of his head. Then he turned back to the workbench, picked two detailed network architecture schematics, and held them out to Jonathan.

"Now, tell me. Which of these were you using to fix the cyberattacks?"

Jonathan's eyes flicked to the papers, his throat working once as he swallowed.

He looked up with furrowed eyebrows. "What sort of stupid question–"

"Thought as much," Harvey cut in, small smile forming on his face.

Then he reached past Jonathan to the master power control switch on the wall panel and pressed it firmly.

Lights flooded the server room in a sudden, clean surge. Someone below, the building's system woke with a rising hum.

Screens along the wall flickered, then stabilized. And status indicators across the racks shifted from red to steady green as terminals through out the company began to boot.

Jonathan couldn't hide his surprise. He was still looking around in shock when Harvey spoke again.

"I fixed it a while ago, but I left it off. I knew you were going to come around, so I waited for you."

Jonathan turned back to Harvey, lips already parting to speak, but Harvey cut him short.

“Good luck convincing the board you weren’t behind the previous cyberattacks. I know you were behind it all. You orchestrated this final blow—”

“Enough!” Jonathan snapped. Then the sharp edge vanished. A thin smile spread across his face and a light, almost casual laugh followed. “Good luck proving that.”

He spun on his heel and hurried toward the stairs without another word.

Halfway down he nearly collided with Jane. She was racing upward, face bright with relief, voice already calling out.

“Harvey? You did it!”

Jonathan stepped squarely into her path, blocking the way. His smile returned, wider this time, polished and ready for an audience.

“No,” he said smoothly. “I did it. I’ve saved the day again.”

Jane stared at him, confusion flickering across her face. “What are you talking about?”

Before Jonathan could answer, footsteps sounded behind him. Harvey appeared at the top of the stairs and walked steadily downward until he stood just over Jonathan’s shoulder.

Jonathan did not turn. His smile only grew smoother as he tried to hide his growing desperation.

“I did it,” he said, voice warm and familiar, the same tone he always used when speaking to her in front of others. “Just like old times. Harvey was struggling up there—completely lost, actually. The moment I showed up and took over, everything came back online.”

Jane’s eyes moved past him, searching for Harvey’s face.

Her lips parted to speak to him, but Jonathan stepped closer and cut in again, still smiling.

“What? Don’t you believe me? Surely you didn’t believe Harvey would have done it without—”

“Shut the hell up!” Jane’s voice cracked like a whip. “I need to speak to my husband! Now, move aside!”

Harvey stood motionless on the small porch, the phone still pressed to his ear.The quiet street below looked the same as it always did—streetlamps casting soft pools of light, a distant car engine fading into silence—but nothing felt the same.“I didn’t believe it until I traced the call,” Henry continued, his voice low and stripped of its usual dry warmth.Harvey’s grip tightened around the phone until his knuckles whitened. Clara Voss. She was one of the two partners he had trusted most back in North Korea, and also one of the two who had framed him in the massive data-breach scandal that destroyed the firm, ruined his name, and forced him into exile. She had teamed up with elements inside the North Korean government, hunted him, and driven him out of the country. But before he disappeared, he had left them a parting gift–evidence linking her and the others to a far more dangerous breach of top government systems. He had escaped believing the regime would finish what he started.

  • Chapter 011: Choosing Him

Jane slowly turned away from him, heaving a long sigh as her fingers began a restless tap against the steering wheel. The morning light filtered through the windshield, catching the tension still lingering in the set of her shoulders.Harvey watched her for a moment, then spoke, his voice quiet and steady. “If you choose to leave now… I’ll hold nothing against you. I’d never advise anyone to stay with someone carrying a past this dangerous and a future that could unravel at any second.”He was still talking when she glanced at him and chuckled— a soft and almost disbelieving sound.“Do you remember the first time we met?” she asked. There was a pause on Harvey’s side. Jane laughed gently. “What a poor memory for a brilliant cybersecurity expert.”Harvey let out a quiet laugh of his own. “I’m working on it.”Her eyes softened. “You walked up to me with two drinks in your hands—a black coffee and a caramel latte—offered me one, and sat down beside me on a parkside bench.”“On a Sunday

  • Chapter 010: The Weight of Truth

Harvey woke to the soft gray light of early morning and an empty space beside him. Jane’s side of the bed was cold. No warm body pressed against his, and no familiar scent of her shampoo lingering on the pillow. And most telling of all—no gentle kiss to pull him from sleep the way she always did when she woke first. She was still angry. He sat up slowly, rubbing a hand over his face, then swung his legs out of bed. The apartment felt too quiet. He pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt and padded barefoot toward the kitchen.Jane was already there, standing at the counter with a mug of coffee cradled in both hands. She was fully dressed—dark blouse, tailored pants, hair neatly pulled back. The sight of her ready for the day while he was still half-asleep only confirmed what the empty bed had already told him.He walked up behind her, voice low and careful. “Morning, love.”He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the side of her neck. She didn’t pull away, but she didn’t lean

Jane ended the call without another word. The stranger’s last warning still echoed in the quiet apartment, but she forced it down. She remained motionless on the couch for a long moment, phone resting heavy in her lap, and shut her eyes. What she was about to do sat heavier than anything the man on the other end had said. She could already taste the bitterness of it.When she opened her eyes again, the screen glowed cold and waiting. She scrolled to Eleanor’s number and pressed call before she could change her mind. Her mother answered on the second ring, voice smooth and expectant, as if she had been sitting by the phone the entire time.“Jane.”Jane drew a slow breath and kept her tone flat. “I’m ready to start the divorce process. But Harvey has to be released first. Tonight. And the lawsuit gets dropped completely. No charges, and no paperwork. Nothing must be hanging over him.”A short silence stretched across the line. Then Eleanor’s softened voice replied.“Finally. My daught

  • Chapter 008: A Secret Worth Protecting

Jane left the station more confused and panicked than she had walked in only minutes earlier. She had never seen Harvey like that. Not once in the three years she had known him. The way he had yanked his hands free of hers as if the table itself had burned him, and the raw panic in his voice as he begged, “No… please… she must not do that,” still echoed louder than the traffic on the street. She reached her car on unsteady legs, slid into the driver’s seat, and immediately pulled out her phone. Her thumb found the unknown number from earlier and hit call. It rang severally, but there was no response. She tried again, pressing the phone harder to her ear as if sheer will could force the stranger to pick up. But she got the same result. After a third attempt, she let the phone drop into her lap and stared out through the windshield at the station's glowing entrance.Tired, exhausted, and suddenly very alone, she turned away and started the engine. As she joined the traffic, her mi

The stranger had only made it clear that Harvey was keeping secrets from her. The thought sat totally wrong in her chest.Harvey? No way. They had only been married a year, but she had known him for three. She knew he was a cybersecurity expert who had graduated near the top of his class at MIT. She knew he still consulted for several companies, keeping their systems locked down and clean. She knew he had spent a full decade in Korea after school before coming back to the States. She knew there had been two girlfriends before her, and that he hadn’t been a virgin when they met. She even knew the ugly part—his parents’ divorce after his mother’s friend had tried to take advantage of him when he was
