Clara Voss sat behind the sleek glass desk in her office when footsteps approached along the corridor.

“What do I have on my schedule?” she asked casually without looking up, as she assumed it was her secretary.

But a soft clearing of a throat answered her, the sound freezing her fingers mid-keystroke.

Her head lifted slowly, eyes widening the moment they locked onto the man standing just inside the doorway.

Harvey.

For a fraction of a second her body remained perfectly still. Then she rose so

Jane tried to brush off Elena’s concern with a dismissive wave. “I’m fine, Elena. Just tired. It’s nothing–"“Don’t do that, child,” Elena interrupted, her tone gentle but firm. “You don’t have to pretend with me.”She guided Jane back to the armchair before settling onto the sofa beside her. Taking one of Jane’s cold hands in hers, she clasped it between both palms and gave it a reassuring squeeze.“Now, tell me the truth. What’s going on?”The tenderness in Elena’s voice was more than Jane could bear. Whatever composure she had managed to hold on to crumbled, and fresh tears welled in her eyes before spilling down her cheeks. She pressed her free hand over her mouth, trying to contain the sob that escaped her, but her shoulders soon began to shake uncontrollably.“Everything is wrong,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Everything.”Elena pulled Jane into her arms without another word, holding her close as she cried against her shoulder. It reminded her of the days when Jane was yo

Harvey kept his gaze on the buildings sliding past the taxi window. “I need an answer, Henry. Are you in or not?”Silence stretched across the line, broken only by the steady hum of the engine and the occasional blare of a horn from the morning traffic. Finally, Henry let out a frustrated breath. “I’m in.” He paused before adding, his voice quieter but no less stern, “But this had better be worth it, Harvey. If we lose everything for nothing, I will never forgive you for throwing your marriage away over a cause that might not even be worth the sacrifice.”Harvey ended the call without responding. Then he immediately dialed Clara’s number. The taxi slowed to a stop in front of Mercy General Hospital just as she answered, her voice as cool and composed as ever.“Harvey.”“Henry is on board,” he said.“Good.” A faint note of satisfaction crept into her voice. “I need both of you at Aether Dynamics by nine tomorrow morning.”Harvey frowned and shifted upright in his seat, wincing as pain

The accusation hung in the air like a blade.Jane’s voice, still raw from crying, cut through the hospital room with sudden force. “They were right about you. You’ve been working against Harvax from the beginning. Against me. Against everything we built together.”Harvey’s expression hardened, his jaw tightening as he struggled to contain his anger. His injured side throbbed with every shallow breath, but he refused to lean against the wall for support. He wouldn’t give Jane another reason to see him as weak.“You have no idea what you’re talking about,” he replied coldly.Jane stared at him in disbelief. The tears that had briefly subsided welled up again, spilling down her cheeks as she stepped closer, her hands curling into fists at her sides.“Then explain it!” she demanded. “Explain why your face is all over the news, walking into Aether Dynamics. Explain why, every time something goes wrong at Harvax, your name somehow finds its way into the shadows!”Sofia stood frozen near the

Before Harvey and Henry could respond to the knock, the door opened, and a nurse stepped inside with a cheerful smile directed at Henry. Her gaze swept across the room, taking in the two men by the window, and she chuckled lightly.“Looks like you’ve got quite the party going on in here,” she teased as she placed a small tray on the nearby table. Her remark had barely settled when Jane and Sofia entered behind her.Harvey froze at the sight of them. Surprise flickered across his face, leaving him momentarily unable to speak. For a brief moment, his gaze met Henry’s, but the look they exchanged offered little reassurance.Henry’s expression tightened. He shifted his weight onto his uninjured leg, his discomfort evident despite his attempt to conceal it.The nurse, seemingly oblivious to the tension in the room, offered Henry another warm smile. “Call if you need anything.," she said with a playful wink before slipping out and quietly closing the door behind her.Silence settled over

  • Chapter 051: The Silence Between Them

Harvey stepped out of the taxi beneath the broad glass canopy of St. Luke’s Hospital. The morning light reflected off the wet pavement, throwing a pale sheen across the entrance as he paused to steady himself. His left side throbbed with every step. The bandages beneath his borrowed shirt pulled against his skin whenever he shifted his weight, forcing him to move more carefully than he would have liked. Still, he kept his expression composed and headed through the automatic doors. The lobby was unusually quiet. A few low voices carried through the open space as he crossed toward the elevators. Moments later, the doors closed behind him, carrying him up to the familiar floor. The corridor greeted him with the sharp smell of antiseptic mixed with stale coffee. Harvey slowed as he approached Henry’s room, then stopped outside the door and took a slow breath. He pushed it open.Henry stood by the window with his back to the room, one hand resting against the sill. Beyond the glass, the c

Harvey leaned forward in the back seat of the taxi, one hand pressed against his injured side as the movement sent another dull ache through him.“St. Luke’s,” he told the driver, keeping his voice low and controlled. “Take the expressway if you can. I’ll guide you from there.”The driver nodded and eased into traffic.Harvey had barely finished pointing out the next turn when his phone vibrated against his thigh. He pulled it from his pocket, expecting to see Henry’s name again.Instead, Raj Patel’s name appeared on the screen.Harvey’s thumb hovered over the answer icon. For several seconds, he simply stared at it, his jaw tightening as the city slipped past the window in streaks of gray glass and wet asphalt. Whatever Raj wanted could wait.He locked the screen and slipped the phone back into his jacket pocket without answering.“Faster,” he said, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. “I don’t have time to waste.”The driver nodded and pressed harder on the accelerator, sending the tax
