The screen on Levi’s phone lit up again, this time not a call from Jennifer, but a string of encrypted notifications he didn’t understand.

Levi blinked.

He couldn't believe his eyes. All this wealth was being transferred to him from the information in the thick A4 document of the swapped leather briefcase.

He was rich; and stunned.

He was no longer the poor errand boy. He was now one of the most powerful men in the world, and it all traced back to the briefcase.

One accidental or maybe intentional swap. He didn’t understand it yet but he would stay low key.

At the close of work when he got home and pushed open the door to his apartment, another storm awaited him inside.

A tall beautiful woman was pacing furiously across the room. And as he stepped in, she rushed and delivered a resounding slap across his face.

“You have some nerve, Levi”

Levi stood still. That must be his wife, Jennifer Griggs.

The disease couldn't allow him recognize her face. He knew he should know her, but his mind struggled.

“I…” he hesitated, “I got caught up.”

“Oh, don’t give me that again,” she snapped, stepping forward. “You were with another woman, right? Enjoying your life away.”

“Jennifer, right?”

Her face dropped in disappointment. “You’ve forgotten my face again?”

“No,” he said carefully. It's the diseas. I told you before. My condition. The faces…sometimes I can’t…”

She layered another slap, hard and thunderous.

“Look, I’m no longer interested in this useless union called marriage. I'm tired of your poor ass.”

she continued. “I’m tired of your poverty and wretchedness. And I can't be married to a man who keeps forgetting my face every hour.”

“Jeni..”

“I want a divorce!”

She picked up set of papers from the table, and tossed them at him. “Sign them.”

Levi stared at the divorce documents.

“I found someone else,” Jennifer announced.

Of course you did, who else if not the bastard, Maurice. Levi thought.

Her tone was now flat. “He is someone who can actually build a future. Maurice treats me like a woman should be treated.”

He looked at her but not with anger.

“You’ve made your decision,” Levi said, his voice surprisingly calm. “And I won’t stop you.”

“Then sign it.” She crossed her arms.

Levi picked up the pen and without blinking, scrawled his signature at the bottom of the document.

It was a pity she now walked away when he just became a Trillionaire. Her loss.

“I hope your Maurice gives you everything I couldn’t.” he said, dropping the paper pen.

“Ohh! spare me the dignity. It’s too late for that.”

“Jennifer,” he was still calm. “Is someone forcing you to do this?”

She laughed, the type of laughter that meant you've said something stupid.

“Oh, please,” she said, folding her arms. “Take a look at Major Maurice and another look at yourself. Maurice is so stinkingly rich and well connected. But you, what can you boast of?”

“So you divorce me because I was poor?”

“WAS?... Oh, don't be delusional, you're still as poor as a homeless priest.”

Levi shook his head and chuckled, not with humor.

“What’s funny?”

“You really have no idea what you've thrown away,” he shrugged. “You see me standing here with worn shoes and a faded shirt and you think I’m beneath you.”

“Aren’t you?” she snapped.

“I was, but not anymore.”

“Is that suppose to make me regret?” Her eyes narrowed.

Just then her phone buzzed. It was Maurice and her face lit up like a lantern.

“Oh, Maurice…Hi baby!”

Levi stoood, hands loosened at his sides. Wonders shall never end.

From the other end, Maurice Langre’s voice rang. “You know you're my little cutie princess.”

She chuckled again. “You’re a bad boy and I love it. Can’t wait to see you again. You know what would mean to me…”

Another pause.

“Did your husband sign the Divorce papers?”

"Yes, baby, he did. No drama, no begging. He even laughed, can you imagine?”

From the other end, Maurice was satisfied.

“That’s my queen. Because my next call was going to be to your father, General Griggs. He wants you in Italy very soon.”

Her eyes widened with delight. She stopped pacing.

“Wait… Are you serious? Italy?”

“Absolutely. He it’s time you enjoy what comes with being on the right side of the table. You’ll be with me, of course. We’re deploying next week and you’ll fly first class.”

Jennifer’s voice rose a pitch. “Oh my God, Maurice… this is everything I wanted.”

“I know it is.”

She walked to the mirror, checked her reflection, lifted her chin as if already donning an officer’s wife uniform.

“I can’t believe it,” she said dreamily. “I mean… Germany. A new life and a powerful man. This is what Levi could never give me even if he had a thousand life.”

Levi swallowed hard.

“God, I can't wait,” she sighed. “What will Levi be doing? Probably still arranging jewelry counters and getting shouted at by his boss.”

Levi could hear Maurice’s dark chuckle. “He has no other option.”

“Well,” she said, walking back toward her closet. “I’ll need to pack something bold and expensive. I want those latinas to know I’m not just a pretty face, I’m your woman.”

Maurice said, “but just wait till you see who’s commanding the Eastern front. You’ll be… surprised.”

“Really, who is it? Someone famous?”

“Some weird guy from America.”

“Well, whoever he is, can’t wait to show off my new life.”

Maurice laughed in response. “I need to go now… see you soon, babe.”

“Love you more. Byeee.”

She hung up and silently began packing.

Levi who had been sitting on the couch asked for the first time. “So you're going to Italy?”

“We're divorced now, and I don't answer to you anymore.”

Meanwhile she didn't know that Levi was now a hidden billionaire and “some weird guy from America who now commanded the Eastern Front”. A hidden mafialord.

“You must be Levi” The young lady said without dropping the pistol. She pulled back her veil to reveal a blond hair which had been clipped to perfection. “My husband, Hogano sent you.” She continued. “And… you're Hogano's wife?” “Yes. Call me Deborita.” “Hello Deborita,” Levi nudged. “Would you mind pointing the nozzle of the gun elsewhere.” “You're not welcome here,” she played with the trigger. “Go back to my husband and tell him Deborita is not coming back.” Levi's jaw dropped, what typa’ game is this? “You were kidnapped …” “I ran away with Bonanno, not kidnapped.” Levi leaned back. Deborita must be high on something. “Come lady, there's no time for this bullshit. Let's move.” Deborita fired a warning shot and it ricocheted on the ground before him. “Why did you run away from Hogano?” “I was married to my husband on contract; and along the line I got pregnant. So when the contract marriage ended, he still wanted us to be together.” “But you declined?” “Yes,” Her f

“TARGET IN RANGE!” The radio on his dashboard called out as his assault boat glided through the waves like knife in water. Their plan was to wait at dock for Bonanno and Gambino to respond to the false alarm at 0600 hours before they infiltrate and rescue the kidnapped hostage. To his left, General Griggs' older boat sped through, and behind him, Maurice piloted his own, rough-edged but armed. They were minutes away from 0600 hours. Static crackled in the comms. “Everyone hold position,” came the voice of General Yugoslav from command HQ. General Griggs tapped his radio. “Say again?” “I do not copy, I repeat, I do not copy. What is going on, General?” Maurice roared into his comms. “Hold position, Charlie. We are receiving interference from the Communication system.” “Copy that.” Levi responded. “Is that a problem?” Maurice responded through his comms. There was a brief pause. “Charlie, Oscar, 105. Your coordinates have been compromised, I repeat your coordinates have be

“Enlighten us, Hector Moreau, why sneak into Kritiano alone? No guard, no backup, nothing?” “What? Were you expecting me to ring a siren or sound a gong everywhere to announce my presence?” “As a mafialord and right hand man to Bonanno and Gambino, we didn't expect an errand boy to capture you so easily.” “Well,” Hector Moreau swirled confidently on the chair he sat on. “I came alone because my love interest said she’d only believe my feelings for her if I came to her... alone. No guards, no drama. Just me and my bravery.” General Griggs sneered. “Well asi it stands, it seems your bravery had been dragged through the mud and you've landed in our den.” Hector smiled, like a criminal who knew he had a badass judge as a brother. “So the infamous mafialord threw himself into the lions den just to prove himself to a woman?” Hector turned his head lazily. “I see, you've never been in love. I understand.” That question got a deep smirk from General Griggs who walked slowly around th

SCRREEEEEECH!! That was the sound of tyres on tarmac as Levi pulled up at the KRITIANO party with his $10.2 million Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire. The world stood still as heads turned and whispers erupted on every corner. “Damn!... Who owns that?” “Man! That is blindingly expensive!” “Whoa! That's a whole mansion on wheels!” Levi stepped down from the car with a suit as sharp as Hercules’ sword. He adjusted the tie on his collar and moved with measured steps into the party hall. Somewhere, an ebony officer whistled and leaned over her friend to gossip. He found an empty table and slipped behind it, looking at his wristwatch. “LEVI?” He turned. Jennifer Griggs stood in a silk navy-blue gown, smiling warmly, confidence painted her face like mayonnaise. Her perfume was thick, feminine and expensive. Levi stood instinctively. God, this lady better be Emilia Yugoslav. He prayed hard. He hated this part of himself where the disease made him forget faces and question every smile, e

When Levi arrived, the gala had already began in full swing. He was dressed in a closed necked camoflauge shirt. And as he made his way through the crowd of dancers; a hand, soft and cold, gently gripped and pulled him aside. “Levi, there you are!” said a soft feminine voice. He turned to face her; and oh GOD! She was beautiful, the kind of beauty that would make Angels wish they were humans. “I insisted on meeting you,” she said, breathing a little excitedly. “My name is Emilia Yugoslav, daughter of General Yugoslav. My father spoke highly of you today.” Levi cracked a smile. He didn't know the General had a daughter. Her auburn hair was decently pinned back and her gown, elegantly floral, such that it swirled with pride whenever she turned. “Did you really suggest that strategy which my Dad and other Generals speak so much about?” “Well…” Levi caressed the back of his neck. Emilia laughed, warm and cascading. “My father called it the most tactical move he had seen so far.

“How ready are the men?” “Someone please say something, TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!” Those were General Yugoslav’s words as he scanned the men in the command room. General Griggs stood by the table, eyes hard but unfocused. In all his decades in uniform, the reality at the moment had turned his mouth dry. Across from him, men scratched their temples and brows the same way a student scratches his head during a test. No one spoke. Not Maurice. Not even Jennifer. They were Hogano's last hope. They couldn't afford to lose now. Levi stood in the corner, half-shadowed, eyes locked on the large digital board. He saw what they couldn’t see. A flaw, obvious to him but invisible to the untrained eyes. He took a step forward. “I would say we stall the transaction for a while and pose as the buyers.” Levi said calmly. “That way, we make a clean in-and-out without raising suspicion.” General Griggs turned, jaw tightening. “You again?” Maurice scoffed, breaking the tense quiet with an eye-ro
