Victor's fingers flew over the keyboard.

“We’ve been traced. They’re pinging our location—fast.”

Gregory stood up, heart hammering. “Can you stop it?”

“I can delay it. Maybe buy us ten minutes. Tops.”

Victor pulled the USB from his laptop and tossed it to Gregory. “Go. I’ll wipe the system and double back through a proxy route.”

“I’m not leaving you—”

“Greg, listen,” Victor said firmly. “They don’t know you have the drive yet. They think I’m the breach. I’ll disappear. You? You need to go find the truth behind Heirlock—and figure out what the hell Ferris really wants from you.”

Gregory hesitated, eyes flicking to the laptop. The trace window was glowing red.

“Ten minutes,” Victor repeated. “Go.”

Gregory slipped the USB into a hidden pocket in his shoe and sprinted out the back door of the print shop into the night. Rain had started to fall, soaking the alley and turning it into a slick, glistening maze. Tires screeched somewhere behind him—black SUVs turning onto the block.
