The canopy of the Whispering Wilds swallowed the moonlight, casting twisted, shifting shadows across the forest floor. The air here smelled of damp earth and old blood. Far behind them, the distant shouts of the Iron-Blood Sect hunt squads faded into the rustle of leaves, but Kai didn't slow his pace until they were deep within the untamed territory.

He gently set Meiling down against the roots of a massive, ancient oak tree.

"Are you alright?" Kai asked, his voice softening as he scanned her face for injuries.

"I’m fine," Meiling breathed, her eyes reflecting a mix of awe and lingering terror as she looked at her brother. "But Kai... your cultivation. Your core. How is any of this possible? They shattered your roots."

"The heavens don't always side with the tyrants," Kai said, offering a reassuring but guarded smile. He wasn't ready to explain the system yet. "They tried to bury me, but they only gave me a new beginning. Rest here. I need to secure our perimeter."

Kai stepped a few paces away, his eyes narrowing as he called up his interface.

[STATUS PANEL]

Host: Kai

Realm: Mortal Cultivator (Tier 3)

Bloodline: Divine Dragon God Bloodline (Fragment - 1%)

Spiritual Roots: Tier 1 Heavenly Devourer Roots

Current Traits: Shadow Veil (Rank 2), Venom Resistance (Tier 1), Dragon Scale Armor (Passive/Partial), Lightning Root Aptitude (Low-Tier)

The 1% integration of the Dragon God bloodline was already making his skin feel as dense as iron, but Tier 3 wasn't going to cut it. The Iron-Blood Sect had thousands of disciples, and the High Elder was just one of several powerhouses. He needed to hunt. He needed to devour.

The tall grass thirty yards ahead rippled. Kai’s ears twitched—a benefit of his enhanced stats. A low, vibrating growl rippled through the dark.

A Rank 3 Blood-Fanged Panther slithered out from the brush. Its fur was pitch black, save for the crimson streaks running down its flanks, and its teeth elongated past its jaw like dual daggers, dripping with corrosive saliva. It was a beast known for ambushing Tier 3 cultivators and tearing them to ribbons before they could even draw a weapon.

The panther tensed, its muscles bunching as it prepared to spring.

To the panther, Kai was a delicious meal. To Kai, the panther was a walking stat boost.

Aoooo!

The beast launched itself forward, a black streak of lethal speed.

Kai didn't retreat. He stood his ground, waiting for the absolute last microsecond. As the panther’s jaws snapped toward his throat, Kai activated Shadow Veil combined with his Lightning Root Aptitude. A crackle of dark, localized lightning erupted beneath his boots.

He slipped sideways through the panther's shadow, entirely evading the strike.

Before the beast could land and pivot, Kai turned, his right fist coated in a dense layer of translucent, shimmering dragon scales. He drove his fist straight into the panther's spine with the explosive force of his accumulated strength.

The panther’s back snapped instantly. It crashed into the dirt, whimpering, its hind legs paralyzed. Kai stepped forward, his eyes cold, and drove his heel down to end its suffering.

[Ding! Rank 3 Enemy defeated. Initiating Extraction...]

[Extraction successful! You have permanently gained: +35 Agility, +15 Strength.]

[Acquired Active Trait: Blood-Frenzy (Tier 1 - Temporarily increases attack speed by 50% when injured).]

[System Notice: Host has accumulated enough attribute points to breakthrough! Advancing to Mortal Cultivator (Tier 4)!]

A violent, golden-blue surge of energy erupted from Kai's core, rippling through the forest and blowing back the heavy mist. His muscles refined themselves, becoming leaner and more packed with raw, destructive power. He could feel the Dragon God fragment within him stirring, hungering for more.

He looked back at Meiling, who was staring at him with her jaw dropped.

Kai wiped a speck of panther blood from his cheek, a dangerous, dark grin spreading across his face.

"One down," Kai whispered, looking deeper into the pitch-black abyss of the Whispering Wilds. "A thousand more to go."

The volcanic cavern screamed as the ceiling continued to buckle. A rain of jagged obsidian and white-hot ash hissed violently into the magma rivers below.Through the gaping fissure, the red-stained sky hung like an open wound. The three Grand Elders of the Iron-Blood Sect hovered in mid-air, their robes billowing in the updrafts. They didn't need swords. Their collective Tier 8 pressure was so dense it physically flattened the heat waves rising from the canyon, turning the air into a heavy, suffocating vice."Kai!" Meiling cried out, the sheer atmospheric weight forcing her to her knees. Her breath came in shallow, panicked gasps as she clutched her chest."Get behind me," Kai growled, his voice vibrating with a low, draconic resonance. With a sharp flick of his wrist, he grabbed the glowing blueprint scroll from the pedestal and tossed it toward High Priestess Ilya. "Keep that safe. If we lose the legacy, this whole trip was pointless."Ilya caught the scroll, her starlight eyes ref

High Priestess Ilya stared at the pile of steaming junk that had just been a Tier 6 elite golem, her starlight eyes widening a fraction of a millimeter. For the first time, her ancient, composed demeanor cracked, replaced by a dark, fascinated curiosity."Runic iron, shattered by a mortal fist," Ilya murmured, stepping over the debris. "You don't just bypass the laws of cultivation, Kai. You rewrite them.""I told you," Kai said, his voice grating like shifting tectonic plates as the newly acquired Runic Iron Body trait settled deep into his cellular structure. His skin took on a faint, almost imperceptible metallic sheen under the magma’s glow. "The rules don't apply to me. Now, open the vault. My time is ticking."Ilya didn't argue. She led them past the shattered guardian toward the end of the obsidian balcony, where a massive, circular vault door stood embedded in the volcanic rock. The door was forged from a pitch-black metal that seemed to absorb the ambient light, its surface c

The space around Kai and Meiling violently expanded, throwing them onto a hard, volcanic stone floor. The freezing, crisp air of the Whispering Wilds was instantly replaced by a thick, heavy atmosphere that smelled of sulfur, molten iron, and ancient soot.Kai immediately dropped into a low combat stance, his hand gripping the hilt of his steel saber, his icy-blue vertical slits scanning the perimeter. They stood on a massive stone obsidian balcony overlooking a colossal subterranean canyon. Deep below, rivers of glowing orange magma snaked through the dark, illuminating thousands of massive, black-iron anvils and towering mechanical furnaces that looked like sleeping metal giants. The cold wind howled through the shattered treeline, carrying with it the metallic scent of blood and ozone. Kai did not lower his steel saber. His vertical, icy-blue pupils remained locked onto High Priestess Ilya, his Draconic Sight frantically searching her form for any fluctuation, any weakness. But the elf monarch stood like an ancient mountain—silent, unyielding, and completely flawless."A glitch in the matrix?" Kai repeated, his voice deathly calm, masking the rapid calculation occurring behind his eyes. "You speak in riddles, elf. I don't have time for poetry. The Iron-Blood Sect's grand elders are ten minutes away, and my blade doesn't care about your ancient history."Ilya chuckled, a soft, crystalline sound that seemed to vibrate the very ambient mana around them. "The Iron-Blood Sect? Those shortsighted insects who think a Tier 5 cultivation makes them gods? They are already dead, little dragon. They just haven't stopped walking yet."She took a step forward. Instantly, K

The Divine Dragon God Bloodline had hit its 10% threshold, triggering the first major evolution phase.
