"Destiny is a strange thing. It does not arrive with equal footsteps. To one child, it offers a crown. To another... only silence."

_Chronicle of the World Scar:- 3_

✦ ─── ❖ ─── ✦

*********

Ashvale Genesis Academy had never known silence like this.

Thousands filled the Grand Arena—parents, veteran Vessels, guild recruiters, and prominent representatives of the Great Houses. Yet, not a single voice rose above a muted whisper. Even the wind sweeping over the stone arches seemed to hold its breath.

At the dead center of the arena stood the Genesis Altar. Ancient and towering, its translucent blue surface shimmered beneath the morning sun as glowing runes drifted lazily beneath the crystal, moving like fish beneath frozen water.

A young instructor stepped forward onto the dais, carrying a long parchment scroll sealed with thick crimson wax. With practiced hands, he broke the seal. The heavy material unfurled, cascading almost to the marble floor.

Hundreds of names. Hundreds of futures. Hundreds of dreams waiting to be judged.

The instructor drew a slow, deliberate breath.

"The Awakening Ceremony... shall now commence."

The moment his words fell, the Genesis Altar answered.

A deep, azure pulse rippled through the massive crystal. It spread outward in concentric waves across the platform before disappearing beneath the white marble floor. For the briefest instant, everyone in the stadium felt it—a resonant hum, as if the ancient monument itself had finally awakened.

"Cedric Valerius."

The name echoed across the arena, magnified by the acoustic architecture. The audience immediately erupted into a flurry of excited chatter.

"As expected! The Valerius heir is first!"

"I heard his baseline Genesis Resonance reached ninety-three percent during the preliminary tests!"

"Ninety-three?! That's almost unheard of!"

Finn leaned toward Kalexi, lowering his voice to a sharp whisper. "See? I told you."

Kalexi chuckled softly, keeping his eyes on the stage. "You've told me that about literally everyone who has walked past us today, Finn."

"...Fair enough," Finn muttered, shifting his weight nervously.

Cedric stepped onto the platform. His polished leather boots echoed softly against the white marble, each step measured, steady, and perfectly confident. There was no cheap arrogance in his posture—only the absolute composure of someone born to inherit power.

He stopped directly before the Genesis Altar, closed his eyes, and slowly placed his open palm against the cool crystal surface.

Nothing happened. One second. Two. Three.

The arena stirred uneasily, a ripple of anxious murmurs passing through the lower rows.

"...Did it fail?"

"It can't have..."

Before anyone could finish the thought.

BOOOOOOOOOM!!

A blinding pillar of silver light erupted from the altar, piercing straight through the clouds into the heavens. A violent gust of wind exploded across the arena, whipping the colorful banners into the air and forcing the spectators to shield their eyes from the glare.

The entire Genesis Altar trembled violently. Within the sea of blinding silver radiance, a massive silhouette began to emerge—large, majestic, and radiating pure pressure.

The light condensed rapidly, solidifying as raw energy was replaced by flesh and bone.

A colossal lion stepped out from the fading brilliance. Its thick mane flowed like liquid moonlight, and blue flames danced beneath each massive paw, burning brightly without scorching the white marble beneath them. The beast's golden eyes swept calmly across the arena, looking out not with hostility or cheap pride, but with the quiet confidence of a king who had never once questioned his place atop the world.

The sheer physical pressure radiating from the creature stole the breath from thousands. Above the beast's head, glowing golden letters slowly materialized in the air.

《GENESIS CONFIRMED》

[NAME]: Silvermane Sovereign Lion

[CLASSIFICATION]: Elite Genesis

Silence. Absolute silence engulfed the stadium.

Then, the arena completely exploded.

"ELITE!!"

"He awakened an Elite Genesis!"

"As expected of House Valerius!"

Several representatives from the Great Houses nodded approvingly from the VIP boxes. A crimson-robed noble smiled thinly, swirling his drink. "The Valerius bloodline disappoints no one."

Nearby, frantic guild recruiters hurriedly scribbled notes into their leather journals, tracking the baseline metrics.

On the platform, Cedric gently rested his hand against the lion's moonlight mane. The magnificent beast lowered its massive head without resistance—not in submission, but in quiet acknowledgement of their bound souls.

High above the platform, Headmaster Marcus allowed himself the faintest smile. "...Excellent."

Kalexi watched the spectacle quietly, his eyes tracking the glowing text. "...An Elite Genesis right out of the gate."

Beside him, Daren folded his arms, his expression unreadable. "Power alone doesn't determine a Genesis' ultimate value, Lexi."

Kalexi glanced sideways at his father. "It doesn't?"

Daren smiled softly, looking at the glowing lion. "No. They are truly judged by their possibility."

Finn tilted his head, leaning into the conversation. "...Possibility?"

Daren nodded, keeping his voice low so only the boys could hear. "Since the birth of the World Scar, humanity has classified every awakened Genesis into four known ranks."

He raised one rough finger. "Common Genesis with ordinary growth rates. They're dependable, stable, and form the backbone of our workforces... but their potential has strict limits."

A second finger rose. "Rare. The most misunderstood classification of the four."

Finn blinked. "Why?"

"Because Rare Genesis sit directly between two worlds," Daren explained, his eyes turning reflective. "They possess the ultimate growth ceiling of an Elite, but they begin life little stronger than a Common Genesis. Their true trajectory depends almost entirely on the Vessel—hard work, deep understanding, and sometimes..." He smiled, glancing at his son. "...a little bit of luck."

Kalexi nodded thoughtfully, processing the information. "So a Rare Genesis can eventually surpass an Elite?"

"If the Vessel has the iron will for it, they often do," Daren said, before raising a third finger. "Elite. The pride of every Great House. They're born with extraordinary potential, powerful from the very beginning, and capable of reaching heights ordinary Genesis may never touch without a miracle."

Kalexi looked back toward Cedric as the boy led his lion off the platform. "...And Legendary?"

For the first time that morning, Daren became entirely quiet. "...Legendary Genesis..." He exhaled softly, his gaze drifting up toward the distant mountains. "I've lived forty-three years. I've met prominent Guild Masters, high-ranking frontier Vessels, and explorers who have conquered entire worlds within the Scar. And yet... I've never seen a Legendary Genesis with my own eyes."

Finn's eyes widened to the size of saucers. "...That rare?"

Daren nodded slowly. "They're the sort of existence nations celebrate... for generations."

The instructor glanced back down at the scroll, his voice echoing across the stone stands once more.

"...Luna Ashborne."

A graceful young woman stepped forward from the student rows. Unlike Cedric's measured stride, there was no baseline confidence in her steps. She looked visibly nervous, her fingers clasped tightly together in front of her uniform as her breath came in shallow, rapid clips.

Thousands of eyes tracked her movement toward the altar, and the whispers began almost immediately.

"I heard she's top of the theory classes at the academy."

"They say she's a total genius with catalyst calculations."

Luna lowered her head even further, her shoulders tensing. "...Please... just don't embarrass me today..."

The tiny whisper escaped her lips before she realized she had spoken it aloud. A few nearby students caught the words and couldn't help but chuckle.

Finn blinked, amused. "...Did she just try to give herself a pep talk?"

Kalexi scratched his cheek, watching her approach the platform. "...I think she did."

"...She's... actually kind of adorable," Finn muttered.

Kalexi slowly looked over at him. "...Focus, Finn."

"...Right. Focusing."

Luna stopped directly before the massive crystal of the Genesis Altar. She closed her eyes tightly, took one last breath, and gently pressed her palm against the surface.

Unlike Cedric's explosive awakening, the light that answered her touch was incredibly gentle, warm, and soft. An emerald radiance blossomed from deep within the altar, and suddenly, dozens—then hundreds—of translucent flower petals drifted into physical existence, dancing peacefully across the arena upon the morning breeze.

The rowdy spectators instinctively fell silent, caught off guard by the serenity of the display.

The crystal hummed a high, melodic note. A small, delicate silhouette slowly emerged from the core of the emerald light, looking no larger than a common sparrow.

The radiance dissolved, revealing a tiny fairy. Its delicate body shimmered like morning dew beneath raw sunlight, its transparent wings fluttering with beautiful elegance as golden particles scattered wherever it flew.

For several seconds, nobody spoke. Then, someone in the upper student tiers laughed.

"...A fairy?"

Another student snorted loudly. "A support type? I'd rather awaken something that can actually swing a sword."

"What is that tiny thing going to do to a Rift monster?" a third mocked. "...Heal its papercuts?"

A wave of low laughter spread through sections of the audience. Luna's shoulders visibly shrank, her face burning a deep, painful crimson.

"...You really... picked today of all days to embarrass me..." she whispered quietly to the tiny spirit hovering near her cheek.

The little fairy tilted its head, looking at Luna's flushed face. Then, it slowly turned its body toward the crowd, its innocent blue eyes blinking once, as if it didn't understand why everyone was making so much noise.

Without warning, the fairy flew away from the altar.

"...Huh?" Luna blinked, her eyes snapping open. "Wait... where are you going?!"

The fairy ignored her completely. It drifted gracefully across the arena floor, passing the guards before stopping directly in front of an elderly village man seated near the lower civilian rows.

The old man’s left hand was trembling uncontrollably—the result of years of hard manual labor and an old, agonizing core injury that had never properly healed. He looked around in utter confusion as the glowing creature hovered before his nose. "...Me?"

The fairy landed gently upon his shaking wrist, its tiny hands resting against his weathered, scarred skin.

A heartbeat later—golden light blossomed.

It was warm and incredibly gentle. Unlike the explosive, destructive brilliance of Cedric's lion, this light carried only pure, unadulterated comfort.

The old man's eyes widened to pinpricks. The soothing warmth flowed rapidly through his arm, into his shoulder, and straight through every aching, degraded joint in his upper body. The chronic, deep-seated pain he had carried for decades simply... vanished.

The violent trembling stopped completely.

An absolute silence engulfed the arena. The old man slowly opened his hand, closed it into a tight fist, and opened it again. He repeated the motion over and over, his breathing becoming ragged.

"...It..." His voice shook violently, tears rapidly gathering in the corners of his eyes. "...It doesn't hurt. The pain... it's completely gone..." He clenched his fist tighter, his voice breaking with raw emotion. "...I'm healed... I'm actually healed..."

The entire arena stood frozen. Even the students who had been mocking the fairy moments earlier found themselves entirely speechless.

High above the central box, Headmaster Marcus slowly rose from his seat, his usually calm eyes narrowing into a sharp gaze. "...Absolute Restoration."

The Genesis Altar pulsed once more, confirming the latent data. Golden words materialized high above the tiny spirit's head.

《GENESIS CONFIRMED》

[NAME]: Spirit Fairy

[CLASSIFICATION]: Elite Genesis

Silence held for a fraction of a second, and then the entire stadium erupted into a roar.

"AN ELITE?!"

The guild recruiters immediately leaned forward over the railings, their eyes wild. One nearly knocked his chair over as he stood up. "A Restoration-type Elite... if nurtured properly by a top guild, she'll become completely invaluable on high-level world expeditions!"

Another recruiter nodded frantically. "No... invaluable isn't the word. Frontier kingdoms go to literal wars over support variants like that."

From the eastern VIP platform, a dignified woman wearing the official crest of House Ashborne smiled proudly down at the field. "...Well done, Luna. Father is going to be incredibly proud."

Still standing before the altar, Luna looked completely lost, her mouth slightly agape. She glanced at her tiny fairy, then back at the massive, cheering crowd. "...Wait... that's... a good thing?"

Headmaster Marcus couldn't help but smile slightly from his distant podium. "...Very good, child."

The tiny fairy happily circled Luna's head in a victory lap before gently landing on her shoulder, its tiny chest puffing out proudly as if saying: See? I told you.

Luna couldn't stop herself from letting out a relieved laugh. "...Thank you."

The applause that followed her off the platform was genuine—not out of mere politeness, but true respect for a rare asset.

Kalexi smiled as he watched her leave the stage. "...People judged her way too quickly."

Finn folded his arms, watching the recruiters frantically trade notes. "They usually do around here."

Beside them, Daren chuckled quietly, his eyes crinkling. "The loudest voices in the room, boys... are almost always the first to realize they were completely wrong."

The instructor lowered his eyes toward the long parchment once more, his voice echoing quietly across the stone arena.

"...Nathan Cole."

A thin young man stepped forward from the middle tiers. His academy uniform was neatly washed and pressed, but years of careful, tedious stitching could still be seen along the worn fabric of the sleeves. His boots had clearly been repaired more than once by a local cobbler.

Even so, he walked toward the altar with a bright, wide smile—not because he was entirely fearless, but because he wanted everyone watching to believe he was.

Kalexi recognized him immediately. It was Nathan—the boy who stayed behind for hours after classes ended just to help repair the heavy fishing nets by the riverbank. The one who always smiled, always greeted everyone first, and always offered a helping hand even when he clearly needed it himself.

"...He's a really good guy," Kalexi murmured, his chest tightening slightly.

Finn nodded grimly. "...Yeah. I've never seen him angry or bitter, not even once."

Nathan stopped before the massive crystal of the Genesis Altar. He swallowed hard, took one deep, stabilizing breath, and gently placed his hand upon the shimmering surface.

The arena waited. One second. Two. Three.

Nothing happened.

Nathan blinked, his smile faltering for a fraction of a second. "...Huh?" He looked down at his palm, then at the crystal. Surely... it was simply taking a little longer to process. Cedric's awakening had experienced a brief delay too.

He forced a nervous smile back onto his face, his voice trembling slightly. "...Come on... any time now..."

Silence. The altar remained entirely still—cold, dormant, and unmoving.

The hopeful smile on Nathan's face slowly began to crack, piece by piece. "..."

"...Please..." he whispered, pressing his palm against the crystal a little harder, his knuckles turning white.

Still, nothing.

The instructor's expression softened into a look of profound pity. He had seen this exact look on young faces far too many times over the years.

Around the arena, uneasy murmurs began to spread like a contagion.

"...Why isn't anything happening?"

"Is the altar malfunctioning or resetting?"

"No..." an elderly veteran in the front rows quietly lowered his head, sighing. "...It isn't a malfunction."

Nathan's breathing became rapidly uneven, his eyes widening in panic. "...No... No, no..." He let out a weak, desperate laugh. "...This isn't funny. Come on... please..."

The crystal gave him absolutely no answer—not a single flicker of light, not even the faintest subterranean pulse. Only a heavy, merciless silence.

The instructor slowly stepped forward, his voice remarkably gentle as he read the flat metrics.

"...Nathan Cole. Failed Awakening."

The words fell like a heavy iron blade across the block.

Nathan froze entirely. "..."

"...No... Please..." His voice broke completely, turning into a raw sob. "...One more time... let me try one more time... please..."

He lifted his hand and slammed it back against the unresponsive altar. Nothing. He did it again. Nothing. A third time, pouring every ounce of his strength into the impact. Still, the crystal remained dead.

The silence of the arena hurt far more than any vocal rejection ever could.

Then, someone in the back rows laughed.

"...He actually failed."

Another mocking voice joined in from the student sections. "No Genesis at all... man, talk about rotten luck."

"I knew someone was bound to completely bomb today," a third sneered.

The cruel laughter spread through scattered sections of the audience. Not everyone joined in—most remained quiet—but it was enough. It was more than enough for Nathan to hear. It was enough to utterly shatter whatever microscopic sliver of hope remained in his chest.

His shoulders began to shake violently. "...I... I really... failed..."

Before his knees could buckle and send him collapsing onto the marble, a middle-aged woman rushed out from the civilian audience rows.

"Nathan!"

She threw her arms around him without a shred of hesitation, pulling him into a fierce embrace. Nathan buried his face deeply against her shoulder, his entire frame trembling.

"...I'm sorry..." his voice cracked, raw with agony. "...I'm so sorry, Mom... I couldn't do it... I couldn't awaken anything..."

Tears streamed freely down his face, soaking her worn clothes. His mother simply held him tighter, burying her face in his hair. "So what?"

Nathan looked up, his eyes bloodshot.

She smiled warmly through her own flowing tears. "So what if you didn't? You're still my son, Nathan. I've loved you for eighteen years just as you are. I'm not about to stop now."

Nathan broke completely. The dam inside his chest shattered, and he cried like a child in her arms—not because he was weak, but because eighteen years of burning hope had disappeared into nothingness in a single, unmerciful moment.

Around the arena, the cruel laughter slowly faded into an uncomfortable hush. Some spectators lowered their heads, while others looked away in sheer discomfort. Even those who had mocked him moments earlier no longer found the situation amusing.

Kalexi couldn't bear to keep watching the scene. He looked down at his own boots, his chest feeling strangely tight, as if a heavy weight was pressing against his lungs.

"...Dad..." his voice was barely audible above a whisper. "...Could that... happen to me?"

For several agonizing moments, Daren said nothing. His eyes remained fixed entirely on Nathan and his mother, then on the silent, cold altar that had answered a boy's life with absolutely nothing.

Finally, he placed one heavy, warm hand upon Kalexi's shoulder, squeezing firmly.

"...Maybe."

Kalexi's heart skipped a violent beat.

"But listen to me very carefully, Lexi." His father's grip tightened ever so slightly, anchoring him to the spot. "If destiny decides to say no to you today..." He smiled, a fierce, protective glint in his eyes. "...then destiny is the fool."

Kalexi slowly looked up, meeting his father's steady gaze.

"..."

"You hear me?" Daren asked quietly.

Kalexi's throat tightened, a lump forming as he swallowed. "...Yeah."

Daren raised an eyebrow, his tone shifting back to its usual grounding cadence. "I asked if you heard me, boy."

A small, involuntary laugh escaped Kalexi's lips despite the heavy atmosphere. "...Yeah. Yeah, I heard you, Dad."

"Good."

Finn rubbed the back of his neck, exhaling a long breath he didn't know he was holding. "...Uncle Daren... you seriously always know exactly what to say."

Daren shrugged casually, releasing Kalexi's shoulder. "I've simply lived long enough to know... that a person's true worth was never meant to be decided by a single day."

Kalexi quietly looked back toward the path as Nathan walked away toward the exit gates, his mother's arm wrapped firmly around his waist. The applause that followed them wasn't loud or celebratory. It was low, deep, and profoundly respectful—a silent, collective acknowledgement that some battles left invisible scars that no one else could see.

The ceremony continued under the burning sun.

One name after another echoed through the grand stone arches of the arena. Some awakenings were met with roaring cheers, others with polite, measured applause, and a select few with the quiet, crushing disappointment of a flat failure.

The morning sun climbed steadily higher into the heavens, and the once-endless parchment scroll grew noticeably shorter with every passing hour. Only a handful of names remained near the bottom of the wax-sealed sheet.

Finn had stopped sitting altogether. He was pacing back and forth along the stone walkway like a condemned prisoner awaiting the final judgment of the court.

"I can't breathe," Finn groaned, clutching his stomach. "I literally cannot draw oxygen right now."

Kalexi raised an eyebrow, watching him pace. "You are breathing right now, Finn. I can literally look at your stomach rising and falling."

Finn stopped, rolling his eyes dramatically. "Come on, Alex, you know that's not what I mean! I mean... ugh, you know what? I can't even reason with you right now."

"You've said that exact sentence six times now, Finn," Kalexi noted dryly.

"Yeah, and I've counted every single one of them," Finn snapped, running a hand through his hair. "And the fact that you're counting too... that's just worrying."

Kalexi laughed, the tension leaving his shoulders. "Relax, Finn. We'll be completely fine."

Finn stopped his pacing, looking at him with an expression of pure disbelief. "...You're surprisingly calm through all of this."

Kalexi shrugged, leaning back against the stone tier. "If I start to panic... Dad will probably tell me one of his ancient, terrible jokes or hit me with another frying pan. He'd say something like, 'A Rowan should never be caught off guard by a minor event.' I'm just not emotionally ready for that kind of tactical parenting right now."

Daren looked genuinely offended from his spot beside them. "You know, you say that like I didn't actually bring one with me today."

Finn's eyes widened to pinpricks. "...Wait. You actually brought a frying pan into the Grand Arena?!"

"I like being thoroughly prepared for any disciplinary scenario," Daren replied with complete seriousness.

Finn took a cautious, slow step away from the older man. "...You are entirely terrifying, Uncle Daren."

"I've been called significantly worse by better men," Daren chuckled.

The three of them shared a quiet laugh, and for one brief, fleeting moment, the immense weight of destiny lifted from their chests once again.

Until—the instructor's sharp voice cut through the air, his eyes lowering to the final cluster of names remaining on the long parchment. He inhaled deeply, his voice booming across the arena lines.

"...Finn Lymson von Hart."

Finn froze mid-step, his face turning completely pale. "...Wait... Me? Already?!"

Kalexi didn't waste a single second. He stepped up and firmly shoved his friend toward the stone stairs leading down to the platform.

"Go."

Finn swallowed hard, his boot heels dragging heavily against the white marble floor as he tried to resist the momentum. "If... if I don't make it back up here, Alex... tell my mother... tell her I always loved her cooking. Even the burnt stew."

Kalexi rolled his eyes, giving him one last nudge. "You're going down there to awaken a latent Genesis power, Finn, not marching straight to a frontier execution block."

Finn looked entirely unconvinced as he stumbled down the first few steps. "...Same difference, man. Same difference."

The surrounding crowd chuckled at the display, and even Headmaster Marcus allowed a faint, amused smile to cross his face from the high balcony.

Finn swallowed hard, forcing his feet to move toward the glowing crystal altar.

Neither of them knew... that the next few minutes would change both of their lives forever.
