The humidity in the jungle was suffocating, a thick, green blanket that clung to Bayu’s skin like a second layer of clothing. He wiped sweat from his forehead, his breath hitching as he pushed through a dense thicket of ferns.

"Man, this trail map is a complete joke," Bayu muttered, kicking at a stray rock. "I swear I’ve passed that same twisted banyan tree three times now."

He paused, leaning against a damp limestone wall, his chest heaving. The silence of the jungle was heavy, almost oppressive. "Hello? Anyone out there? I’m looking for the ridge trail."

There was no answer, just the distant call of a cicada. He sighed, turning his head as he noticed a narrow gap in the rock face, hidden behind a curtain of overgrown vines. A soft, rhythmic dripping sound emanated from within, cool and inviting.

"Well, beats walking in circles," Bayu said, stepping toward the gap. "At least it’s shady in there."

As he slipped through the narrow opening, the temperature plummeted. The air inside the cave was crisp, carrying the metallic tang of fresh, mineral-rich water. He clicked on his headlamp, the beam cutting through the gloom to reveal a hidden grotto. In the center, a natural basin carved from smooth, dark stone glowed with an ethereal, azure light.

"Whoa. What on earth is that?" Bayu whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and curiosity. He stepped closer to the basin. "Is that… a glowing orb?"

Floating just above the surface of the pool was a marble-sized sphere of liquid light. It pulsed like a heartbeat, casting elongated, dancing shadows against the cave walls.

"This doesn't look like any natural phenomenon I've ever seen," he murmured, reaching out a hand, his fingers twitching. "Maybe it’s some kind of weird chemical reaction? Or a prank? No, way too deep in the bush for that."

He moved closer, his boots crunching on the wet sand. The light was hypnotic. Without thinking—as if pulled by an invisible, gravitational tether—Bayu reached into the center of the orb.

The moment his skin touched the liquid light, his entire world tilted.

"Ah! What the—"

A jolt of searing agony ripped through his hand, traveling up his arm like molten lead. He tried to pull away, but his muscles locked, his body rigid and unresponsive.

"Let go! Let go, you freakish thing!" he screamed, but his voice was swallowed by the sudden, low rumble of the cave.

The internal burning intensified, spreading from his arm to his chest, then down to his legs. It felt as if his blood had been replaced with boiling oil.

"It’s burning! My insides… it’s like I’m being cooked from the inside out!" Bayu collapsed to his knees, clutching his chest. "Help! Somebody, help me!"

Above him, the ceiling of the cave began to fissure. Dust and pebbles rained down, hitting his shoulders. The structural integrity of the grotto, long held in check by the equilibrium of the cave, was collapsing under the surge of energy being pulled into Bayu’s body.

"Are you serious right now? I'm going to die in a hole because of a glowing marble?" he choked out, gasping for air.

Suddenly, a sharp, cold sensation slammed into his core, clashing violently with the heat. His vision blurred, and his veins turned a startling, translucent icy blue.

DING.

A transparent, holographic screen flickered into existence directly in his line of sight, glowing with a soft, cerulean hue.

[ SYSTEM INITIALIZATION: 100% COMPLETE ]

[ Divine Water System – Host: Bayu Wijaya ]

[ Status: Fusion Stable. ]

[ Warning: Structural Collapse Imminent. ]

"What? A system? Like… like in those games?" Bayu blinked, his teeth chattering uncontrollably as the cold took over. "Is this a hallucination? Am I having a stroke?"

The ground heaved beneath him. A massive boulder detached from the ceiling, crashing into the water basin with a deafening roar.

"Okay, hallucination or not, I’m getting squashed!" Bayu yelled, stumbling to his feet.

[ ALERT: Activating Emergency Traversal Boost. ]

Before Bayu could process the words, a surge of unnatural power flooded his legs. His muscles felt tight, vibrating with kinetic potential.

"What's happening to me? My legs—they feel like springs!" He didn't wait to find out more. He lunged forward, his movement blurring as he cleared the distance to the cave entrance in a single, impossible leap.

"Get out! Get out!"

He scrambled over jagged rocks, his speed defying human limits. As he burst through the vine-covered entrance, the entire grotto behind him groaned, the ceiling finally giving way and sealing the entrance in a cloud of thick, choking dust.

Bayu tumbled onto the jungle floor, gasping for air, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. He laid there for a long time, staring up at the canopy as the sun began to dip below the horizon.

"Did that really happen?" he whispered, lifting his arm. The blue veins were fading, returning to his natural skin tone, but the strange, cool sensation remained deep within his marrow. "What was that? What was that thing?"

Hours later, the comfort of his bedroom felt surreal. Bayu sat on the edge of his bed, his clothes damp and torn, staring at the empty plastic water bottle on his nightstand.

He had arrived home in a daze, barely remembering the trek back through the darkening jungle. He felt hollow, as if he had run a marathon, yet his mind was vibrating with a clarity he’d never experienced before.

"I need water," he muttered, his throat feeling like he’d swallowed a handful of dry sand.

He reached for the bottle, unscrewing the cap with trembling fingers. He tipped it back, expecting the familiar splash of room-temperature tap water, but the bottle was completely, bone-dry.

"What? I just filled this up before the hike," he frowned, shaking the bottle. "Did I leak it all over the trail? No, that’s impossible. I didn't even open it."

He tossed the empty bottle onto the floor. As it hit the wood, the holographic screen shimmered back into existence in the dark room, casting a faint glow over his sheets.

[ Hydration Requirement: 0% ]

[ Warning: You have consumed the Water Essence. Your metabolism is currently recalibrating. ]

Bayu stared at the floating text, his breath hitching. "Recalibrating? Purity? What are you even talking about?"

He reached out to touch the screen, but his hand passed straight through the light.

"This isn't a dream, is it?" he whispered, his eyes wide in the dark. "This is real."

He looked at his own reflection in the mirror across the room. In the dim light, for a brief second, his eyes glowed with that same, faint azure light he had seen in the cave.

"Whatever you are," Bayu said, his voice firming up with a mix of dread and mounting excitement, "you better be worth it."

The city air felt heavy and stagnant, lacking the crisp, clean energy Bayu had become accustomed to sensing. Without the system’s interface, the streetlights seemed dimmer, the sounds of distant traffic less rhythmic, and the shadows far more menacing. Aisyah trailed him like a ghost, her footsteps barely audible on the cracked pavement."You’re walking too fast," Aisyah remarked, her voice cutting through the silence. "If you try to outrun them, you’ll just lead them right to a dead end."Bayu slowed, his shoulders tensing. "I’m not running. I’m just trying to get out of the dark parts of the city. We’re almost to the main road.""The main road is an open stage for an ambush, you idiot," she countered, stepping up beside him. "Keep your eyes on the alley mouths. These guys don't play by the rules.""These guys? You mean the harvesters?""I mean thugs," she said, her voice dropping. "People who smell weakness. And right now, you smell like a boy who’s lost his way."Bayu stopped near

  • Chapter 9: Varuna's Voice

The alleyway was a suffocating corridor of shadows, the damp brick walls leaching whatever heat remained in the night air. Bayu stumbled, his shoulder clipping a rusted dumpster. He stopped, his breath hitching in his chest as he leaned against the cold metal, waiting for the world to stop spinning.“Why do you fight the current, Bayu?”The voice didn't come from the street. It echoed directly inside his skull, resonant and smooth, like the sound of a deep river flowing beneath frozen ground.Bayu whipped his head around, his hand instinctively snapping into a clawed grip. "Who’s there? Show yourself."“I am the source you seek. I am the silence within the rush. You call me Varuna.”"Varuna?" Bayu hissed, his gaze darting to the dark windows above. "I don't know any Varuna. Get out of my head."“You possess the Vessel, yet you starve yourself of the nectar. Why settle for this pathetic, frail human pulse when you could command the tides?”"I’m human enough," Bayu grunted, forcing hims

  • Chapter 8: The Shady Clinic

The air in the clinic was heavy, smelling of sterile ozone and a layer of dust that seemed to have settled decades ago. Bayu sat on the examination stool, his pulse thrumming in his ears like the beating of a distant, underwater drum. Dr. Aris moved with a slow, deliberate grace, his hands hovering over a stack of antiquated medical equipment."You’re quiet, boy," Dr. Aris said, not turning around. "Most people are terrified when they walk into this office. You? You look like you’re waiting for an execution."Bayu kept his eyes locked on the vials of glowing azure liquid on the desk. "I’m not looking to die, Doc. I’m looking for a way to pass a school physical without the nurse calling the government on me."Dr. Aris chuckled, the sound like dry leaves skittering across pavement. He finally turned, his thick spectacles sliding down his nose. "Passing a physical is easy. Fooling a modern biometric scan when your marrow is practically humming with aquatic kinetic energy? That’s a differ

  • Chapter 7: Medical Panic

The main road felt different under his feet. Every stride was deliberate, his muscles vibrating with a latent, rhythmic power that made the asphalt seem soft, almost malleable. He didn’t look back at the school gate, but he could feel the residual heat of the afternoon sun—and the icy, encroaching shadow of the secret he carried. He didn't make it as far as the bus stop before his phone buzzed in his pocket. A notification from the school portal blinked on his screen, followed by a text message from the administration office.“Bayu Wijaya. Report to the Principal’s office immediately. Urgent.”Bayu exhaled, a visible puff of mist escaping his lips despite the lingering tropical heat. "So, the fallout starts now," he muttered to himself. He turned back, his pace measured. He couldn't run, not when he was trying to project the image of a struggling, exhausted student rather than an evolving anomaly. The Principal’s office was stifling. It was a small, windowless box lined with mahogany

  • Chapter 6: The First Test

The school courtyard was sweltering, the late afternoon sun beating down on the cracked pavement with a relentless intensity that made the air shimmer. Bayu stood near the bike shed, his skin feeling like a dry, thirsty sponge. Every instinct screamed at him to find a fountain, a tap, even a stray puddle, but his eyes were locked on the scene unfolding near the gymnasium entrance.Rama, his best friend, was pinned against the brick wall. Standing over him was Dika, the school’s notorious bully, whose reputation for cruelty was only matched by his size. Dika had a fistful of Rama’s collar, his face twisted in a sneer."I’m getting really tired of your excuses, Rama," Dika said, his voice a low, threatening growl. "I told you to have my notes ready by lunch. What part of that was confusing?"Rama’s face was pale, his eyes darting toward the other students who were quickly clearing the area. "I—I’m sorry, Dika. I had an extra class. I couldn't get to the library.""An extra class?" Dika

  • Chapter 5: Liquid Reflexes

The fluorescent light above the bathroom mirror hummed with a low, electrical buzz that felt uncomfortably loud against the silence of the empty school hallway. Bayu stared at his reflection, his knuckles white as he gripped the edges of the porcelain sink. His heart was a steady, rhythmic thrumming in his chest—a stark contrast to the chaotic, erratic panic he had felt only an hour ago."Okay, let’s see if this actually works," Bayu whispered to his reflection, his voice calm, focused. "Focus. Just the water. Just the stillness."He turned the faucet handle just a quarter of a turn. A thin, crystalline stream of water arched into the basin. Instead of letting it hit the porcelain and disappear down the drain, he held his palm directly underneath it. He didn't let the water hit his skin; he reached out with his mind, pulling at the very essence of the liquid."Don't flow. Just... hang there," he murmured, his brow furrowing in concentration. The water didn't splash against his palm. I
