The heir to the Duvan family leaned back in his seat, his voice dripping with arrogance as he snorted,

“When the cat’s away, the mice will play. Who are Rift and Sable compared to the might of the Duvan family? They’re nothing but insects waiting to be crushed.”

The words came out casually, yet every syllable carried the weight of absolute confidence. Kenton didn’t just believe in his superiority—he embodied it.

Elias and Aiden exchanged glances. For a brief moment, they hesitated, but when they truly thought about it, Kenton wasn’t wrong. The Duvans were not just another wealthy family. They were one of the most powerful bloodlines in Shadowmoor. Business, politics, underworld—every corner of society had the Duvan influence lurking behind it. If they wanted to erase someone, even formidable names like Jaden Rift and Morix Sable, it wasn’t unthinkable.

A slow smirk stretched across Elias’s face. He picked up his glass, the expensive liquor swirling like liquid fire inside. “Then the Verricks should thank you, Mr. Kenton,” he said smoothly, though there was a hidden edge to his tone.

The three men clinked glasses, crystal striking crystal with a sharp chime. Elias and Aiden threw their drinks back in one gulp, their throats burning as the liquor went down. Kenton, however, only took the faintest sip before setting his glass back onto the table with deliberate care. His disdain for indulgence was clear.

His sharp eyes flicked toward the man standing silently behind him. “Brandon. Get everything prepared. You’re coming with me tomorrow to Ironvale City. We’re going to put an end to those two clowns.”

The man in black didn’t flinch. His tall frame loomed like a shadow, his black overcoat making him look more like an executioner than a bodyguard. His face was expressionless, carved out of stone. “Yes, sir,” he said in a deep voice, the kind that carried finality.

The Verrick brothers suppressed a shiver. They had heard of Brandon before—Kenton’s personal enforcer, rumored to have cleaned up more than one bloody mess for the Duvans. If Brandon was going, then Rift and Sable’s days might truly be numbered.

Ironvale City – Riverside Garden.

At the break of dawn, the first golden rays pierced through the curtains of a villa’s bedroom. Jaden’s eyes opened instantly, alert as always. Years of surviving in the military camps had conditioned him to wake at the slightest shift in light or sound.

On his left, Mia was fast asleep, clutching her little toy bear as though it were her shield against the world. She had rolled onto her side in the night, her soft breathing steady and innocent. The sight of her always softened the steel in Jaden’s heart.

On his right, however, lay the woman who made his chest tighten in ways he refused to admit out loud. Selena.

She had gone to sleep determined to keep her distance, her daughter as the “line” between them. But sometime during the night, she had drifted across that imaginary border. Now she was curled up against him, her body pressed close, her arms looped loosely around his neck. Her head rested on his shoulder as though it belonged there, her breathing warm against his skin.

Jaden’s lips curved faintly. He had lost count of how many times this had happened. No matter how many rules she set before bed, by the time morning came, she always ended up in his arms. She never admitted it, but her unconscious self betrayed her every night.

For her sake, he played dumb. He always pretended to wake up later, letting her pull away first so she could save face.

But this morning was different. As he studied her sleeping face, his gaze lingered on her delicate features—her long lashes resting against her cheeks, her soft pink lips slightly parted. His heartbeat quickened, the silence in the room amplifying the sound of it in his chest.

A reckless urge surged through him. He wanted to kiss her. Just once. To close the distance and taste the sweetness that tempted him every night.

His face inched closer, his breath mingling with hers.

Then he froze.

Selena’s eyelashes fluttered. A faint quiver, but enough to tell him she was waking.

She’s waking up.

After the neutral parties departed, the vast hall felt noticeably emptier. What remained, however, was a gathering of people far more eager, far more desperate. Those who had chosen Carl Rajar crowded closer, their earlier restraint vanishing in an instant. Smiles bloomed on their faces, voices overlapped, and flattery poured out unchecked. They behaved like men who had survived a storm by clinging to the strongest mast they could find.“Mr. Rajar’s foresight truly amazes us.”“With you leading the way, Ironvale will finally know order.”“Rift never stood a chance against someone of your stature.”Carl listened without interrupting, his expression unreadable as he accepted the praise like a king receiving tribute.Only after the noise reached its peak did he raise a hand. The hall quieted immediately.“All of you,” Carl said calmly, his voice carrying authority without effort, “have made a wise decision.”He leaned back slightly, his fingers tapping against the armrest.“When I obtain

Carl watched closely as the men who had chosen to stand with Jaden began to tremble under his gaze.Their fear was obvious. It showed in the way their shoulders stiffened, in the way their breathing became shallow, in the way none of them dared to meet his eyes for more than a second. That alone pleased him.A slow sneer crept across Carl’s face.“So,” he said calmly, his voice carrying through the hall with ease, “you’re scared now?”No one answered.Carl tilted his head slightly, his eyes gleaming with malice.“What if I asked you to choose again?” he continued. “Right here. Right now. What would you choose?”The atmosphere instantly grew suffocating.Every guest in the hall shifted their attention toward Zachary Schulz and the others beside him. Some held their breath. Some shook their heads silently. Others were already convinced of the outcome. In their minds, it was impossible.Faced with death so openly, faced with a man like Carl Rajar, no one would still dare stand with Jaden

Morix did not respond. He did not look back, nor did he slow his steps. His back remained straight as he walked out of the hall, the heavy doors closing behind him with a dull thud that echoed through the silent villa.Only after Morix was completely gone did Carl shift his attention. His gaze dropped to the rolled scroll resting in his hands. For a moment, he said nothing. Then, with a faint, contemptuous smile tugging at his lips, he handed the artwork to two of his men.“Open it,” Carl said lazily. “Let’s see what kind of masterpiece Rift thinks can buy his life.”Laughter immediately broke out.Xander scoffed, shaking his head.“Trying to appease you at the last minute. How pathetic.”Another businessman sneered.“A coward’s move. He finally understands he’s doomed.”Several others joined in, their voices layered with mockery and confidence.“Even priceless art won’t save him now.”“He should’ve knelt himself instead of sending a dog.”The two underlings were careful as they slowl

Xander did not hesitate for even a second. He stepped forward, spine straight, expression composed, as if he had rehearsed this answer long ago.“Jaden has always been a troublemaker wherever he goes,” Xander said calmly. “I have never truly accepted him as my grandson-in-law. He lacks restraint, offends powerful figures, and brings danger to those around him. Since he has offended you of all people, then this outcome is entirely of his own making.”The hall went quiet.Every word was deliberate. Every sentence was a public severing.Xander continued, his tone steady, almost cold.“If you decide that my son and granddaughter must also suffer consequences because of his actions, then I will not object. Blood ties should not outweigh reason.”Several people exchanged subtle glances. Some admired his decisiveness. Others silently labeled him what he was. A man who knew how to abandon family when survival demanded it.Carl watched him closely. Then he smiled. It was not a warm smile. It w

The Rajar family villa blazed with light, every bulb and chandelier cranked to full power. The glow spilled across the entire courtyard, bouncing off a sea of luxury cars. The cheaper models were only “cheap” by comparison. A few BMWs and Mercedes sat on the outer ring like placeholders. The real flex started deeper in. Bentleys. Rolls-Royces. Lincoln limousines polished so clean they reflected the night like mirrors.Anyone looking at the courtyard would understand the message.Carl Rajar had summoned Ironvale’s elite, and they showed up like obedient soldiers. These people knew the rules. When a man of Carl’s stature invited you, you brought a gift. Not because he needed it. Not because he would remember it. But because if everyone else came bearing tribute and you didn’t, he would remember that. And Carl was the type who never forgot a disrespect.Xander Verrick walked toward the entrance with his sons, Elias and Aiden, keeping their posture straight and their faces polite. They we

  • Chapter 804

Yoel’s eyes burned with fury, veins standing out along his temples. He was trembling, not from fear, but from the white-hot rage that consumed his body. In his mind, he was the greatest fighter alive, with Fabian—his brother in arms, his comrade, his equal—coming in a close second. And now, Fabian was dead. Killed by someone so audacious, so audacious that he had dared cross Jaden Rift.Without a second thought, Yoel lifted his massive right hand, his knuckles gleaming in the dim light, and brought it down with full force toward Joseph’s head.Joseph froze, eyes widening in terror as the hand came down like a hammer. His voice trembled, nearly breaking into a scream.“Mr. Rajar, please…!”But Yoel’s anger was unstoppable. He didn’t hear him. The muscles in his arm tensed as if the very rage in his soul was powering it.Carl’s booming voice cut through the tension like a knife.“Yoel! That’s enough!”Yoel froze mid-motion, his hand hovering in the air. His chest heaved, and his body sh
