A deafening boom split the air as Magnus’s boots slammed against the marble floor. The ground beneath him cracked in a web-like pattern from the sheer pressure of his stance. The entire lounge seemed to shake from the force.

Then, like a living cannonball, Magnus Thunder launched himself forward. His massive body blurred with frightening speed. The air roared around him as his fist cut through it like a battering ram.

Gasps rippled through the room. Morganna’s heart leapt into her throat. She instinctively stepped forward, but Kaelus stopped her with a single hand gesture. The rest of the Elite Eight tensed, ready to move at a moment’s notice.

Jaden didn’t flinch. His eyes were calm, his breathing steady.

When Magnus reached him, their fists collided.

“Bang!”

The sound was deafening—like a thunderclap splitting the world in two. The shockwave rippled outward, scattering chairs, bursting the glass windows, and sending gusts of air that made everyone in the room stumble.

In the South, where power breathed down from old names and darker hands, a death could be arranged like moving a chess piece. If Jaden died in a holding cell tonight, the newspapers might call it a tragic incident. The whispers would die. The men who ordered it would shrug. Mr. Nagger’s word was law; his shadow swept through courtrooms and back alleys alike, and no one in the region wanted to be the one he scolded.Chase felt that truth like a cold weight settle in his gut. Once Henry had said the name, the rest was not his business. He could no longer protest; his duty was to follow orders. He straightened his spine, plastered on an apologetic grin for the men present, and gave the command that made the whole plan official.“I didn’t realize that,” he said, voice low and embarrassed. “In that case, I’ll take care of it right away.” He looked to Zander with an instruction that held no room for negotiation. “Follow me. I’ll lead you to Jaden’s cell.”Zander nodded once. His men fell in

Henry Lancaster didn’t take Jaden straight back to Shadowmoor. Instead, he diverted to the Ironvale City Detention Center — a grim, concrete fortress on the outskirts of town, where screams were muffled by thick walls and the smell of disinfectant couldn’t quite hide the stench of fear.Inside, he ordered his men to throw Jaden into a holding cell — no phone calls, no paperwork, no explanation. Just a slam of metal doors and the echo of boots fading down the corridor. Then Henry turned to the man in charge — a balding officer with tired eyes and a nervous smile. “Chase Li,” Henry said coolly. “I need you to do something for me.”Chase straightened immediately. “Of course, Captain Lancaster. What are your orders?”Henry’s voice was calm, but sharp. “I want you to assign some inmates to share a cell with the man we just brought in. Make sure they… keep him company.”Chase blinked. “What kind of men do you have in mind, Captain?”Before Henry could answer, the heavy door behind them crea

Hector Packwood flashed her a broad grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Ah, Ms. Verrick remembers me! I’m honored—truly honored!”His voice dripped with charm, but there was a flicker of something else beneath it — something sly, possessive.Selena stiffened, taken aback by his familiar tone. Memories she had buried came rushing back.Years ago, when she found herself pregnant out of wedlock, her family — the Verricks — had been furious. They called her a disgrace, a stain on their name. Her father, Xander Verrick, was desperate to marry her off and save face. And the man he’d chosen for her? None other than Hector Packwood — a widower in his forties, vice-captain of the Investigation Unit, and, supposedly, “stable” and “respectable.”Selena hadn’t known the dinner was a setup. She had gone, thinking it was just a casual family introduction. The moment she saw Hector, though — the slicked hair, the confident smirk, the way his eyes wandered a bit too much — her instincts screamed

Henry snapped his fingers sharply. “Apprehend him.”The men surged forward, boots thudding against the asphalt. But before they could touch him, Jaden lifted a hand, calm as ever, and gently moved Selena aside.“Easy,” he said softly, his tone almost playful. His eyes met Henry’s with unflinching confidence. “No need for all this noise. I’ll go with you willingly. I’m actually quite curious to see what kind of game you all think you’re playing.”Selena’s heart dropped. “Jaden?” she called, panic rising in her voice. The officers’ presence, their silent aggression, the cold air around them — it all felt wrong.Jaden turned to her, his expression softening. He lowered his voice so only she could hear. “Selena,” he murmured, “don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” He gave her a faint, reassuring smile — one that carried warmth even amidst danger. “I’ll even be back for dinner tonight.”But to Henry, that smile was an insult. He sneered inwardly. Dinner? The thought made him want to laugh out loud.

Leon inclined his head toward his butler, voice smooth as silk. “Call Captain Henry Lancaster. Have him assemble a task force and escort Zander to Ironvale City. Make sure the operation carries Shadowmoor’s authority. I want Jaden Rift dealt with.”The butler bowed and left at once. Leon’s eyes lingered on Zander, who stood a little straighter. The young Ortega’s grin was feral — half relief, half triumph. He already had a band of hardened outlaws from Southeast Asia at his back; now, with the police captain’s tacit involvement, the noose around Jaden felt as if it were being cinched tight.“That ought to teach him,” Zander murmured, clenching his fists.---Ironvale City, late afternoon — the sky edged with the gold of a dying sun.Jaden, Selena, and Morganna had just finished their inspection of the Phoenix construction site. Dust still clung to their shoes; the skeletal frames of the soon-to-be factory cast long, promising shadows across the land. Spirits were high — the crisis had

“Go see the King of the South tonight,” George urged, his voice thin but urgent. “Tell him the Ortegas will give half our assets if he helps wipe out Jaden Rift.”Zander’s jaw set. “I’ll go tonight,” he said, and he left with a small convoy that cut across the moonlit roads. The Nagger mansion rose like a citadel where the sea met the mountain: terraced gardens sloping down to private cliffs, lanterns blinking in the dark, marble statues watching over an entryway that smelled faintly of incense and old money. Inside, the main hall was more palace than home — carved rosewood, silk banners, and an atmosphere that made men measure their words before they spoke them.At the center of the hall sat Leon Nagger, the man the entire southern region called “the King.” He was shorter than legend made him out to be, a little under 170 centimeters, slightly round in the middle now with age—and yet his presence filled the room as if he were ten times taller. His smile was slow and almost indulgent
