Chapter 1: Mr. Peasant

Langston's Estate was buzzing with music, with different lights flashing through the windows; it was nighttime already. The party reeked of alcohol and recklessness. George stood at the end of the living room, with a tray clasped around his chest. His face looked tired and hungry but his master wouldn't let him go.

"Hey! Page boy.....drinks!!" Marcus yelled, trying to turn up the music. But George didn't move; he stood, starry-eyed, at the estranged son of the Langston family, Marcus. He was more like the degenerate of the family with his flamboyant behavior and Playboy status. Even with that, the Langston family stopped placing him as the Heir of the Langston Estates, and even George's wife, his sister works herself up to keep the family afloat.

"Didn't you hear me, you lowlife!!!" Marc called again, George swallowed the lump at the back of his throat, "Your parents and grandmother would be back, they wouldn't like this. " George managed to say, he didn't want to be the one who would take all the blame again.

Marcus frowned deeply, raising his hands in mid-air to stop the music. The lights immediately went off, revealing a bright light, making everyone stop and turn to them both.

"What did Just say to me?" Marcus clenched his fist, with irritation slightly visible on his face.

"I said....your parents and...." before he could finish up the sentence, and a punch landed on his face, throwing him off balance.

Everyone mocked him with loud cheers.

"That serves him right"

"What a lowlife"

George struggled as he managed to get up, but he was weak. He had been working all day at the factory and serving Marcus's guests all evening, and hadn't eaten or taken water.

"Get up and fight! Since you're so brave enough even to marry a Langston in the first place" he said with his voice raised.

"What in the world is going on here?" Everyone turned to see his parents, Grandma Lang, and Bianca.

"What did you do to him!" She yelled, rushing to his aid.

"Go ahead, you've always picked this degenerate over your own brother," Marcus uttered in distaste.

"A party? Really? We go out for a moment and you throw a party?" Bianca helped him to his feet.

"And what is it to you? Your husband threw the first blow at me!" He lied.

"Oh, what a lie!" Bianca mimicked back.

"Silence!!!!!!" Their old hoarded grandmother's voice was etched, it was deep in authority. Many said she once served in the military as a general before starting her own company.

Everyone went silent, "Everyone out!" Her face masked in rage,

"What? No..."Marcus tried to say, but his friends hurriedly left, shutting the door behind them, leaving just the Langston family and George in the living room.

"Grandma..." Marcus winced, with his fist clenched in anger.

"Do not question your grandmother." Mrs. Langston immediately cautioned.

Grandma Langston stared at George, her face void of emotion. He stood behind her granddaughter who was shielding him.

"Come." She said at once to George. Confusion masked his face,

"Ma?" He managed to say.

"Come." She said again. Short and simple. George and Bianca shared a look before she nodded, indicating he could go.

Marcus bit his lips in jealousy, "Why?" He asked but got no answer.

George slowly walked towards Grandma Lang, his gaze low, he dared not look her in the eye.

"Ma.." he called, quietly but before he could say jack, her firm hands landed on his cheeks in a slap with a loud crack causing him to lose his balance, he fell to the floor, blood pooling at the corner of his lips.

"Grandmother!" Bianca called in shock, rushing to him.

The old woman's face remained stern, "How dare you...." she began, each word heavy "....lay your filthy hands on a Langston!" Her voice roared through the building in rage.

George froze, that wasn't the case.

Marcus smirked, a grin of satisfaction plastered on his face.

"Why did you do that??" Her eyes glistened with tears.

"You should count yourself lucky that I consider you family never after marrying such a disgrace!" Her grandmother spat out. "Don't you ever touch my grandson. It's bad enough you're sleeping with my granddaughter."

"He is my husband and you have to accord him the same respect you...." A slap landed on her face cutting her short, George grabbed her immediately in rage,

" Slap me all you want but do not touch my wife!" His wounded voice warned. Bianca stood in disbelief, her hand clasped to her cheeks. Her grandmother had never laid a finger on her. She never did.

"A cat is trying to become a lion. As long as you both are under my roof! You're nothing but a filthy peasant!" Her voice deepened. "Not even your marriage to my granddaughter, will wash that away. A pig is always a pig no matter how washed up it is." She then turned to leave but stopped in her tracks,

"Clean up this mess," she said simply and left.

"Serves you right" Marcus scoffed at them.

Her parents remained quiet, but her father cleared his throat,

"Bianca, let's go" he said but she stood still.

"Bianca!" He called again, George calmly turned to her, her face was reddened from the slap, his heart ached to see her beautiful face like this.

"Just go with them... I'll clean this up and meet with you." Before she could answer, her mother pulled her away, as they climbed the stairs.

"I can't believe you stood up to your grandmother because of that nitwit!" Her voice cursed, to George's hearing.

And now he was all alone, with the mess Marcus had created left to clean up after. He ran his hands through his hair in exhaustion.

Just then his phone buzzed, he carefully took it out, to see he had a text message from an unsaved number but he knew whose it was.

"It is ready Sir. We're glad to have you on board." A wild smile found its way to George's face.

“Acquire Langston Group’s pending debt first,” he typed calmly.

“And make sure they never know it’s me.”
