The Next Day

Gray clouds loomed over the city like a curtain of judgment. The streets, normally quiet at this hour, were buzzing with an uneasy tension. Dozens of men stood stationed at every intersection, alley, rooftop, and building. Their black suits, sunglasses, and earpieces made them look more like elite operatives than mere hired guns.

The butler—an older man with sharp features, silver-streaked hair, and the calm demeanor of someone who'd seen too much—walked among them, hands clasped behind his back.

“Positions,” he barked. “I want full lockdown. No one goes in. No one comes out. Understood?”

“Yes, sir!” the men responded in unison, their voices crisp and alert.

One of the younger enforcers stepped forward hesitantly. “Big brother… are we not giving these robbers too much face? This setup… it’s like preparing for a royal procession.”

A few of the others chuckled, but the butler didn’t. He exhaled a plume of smoke from his cigarette, eyes narrowed like a hawk surveying prey.

Just outside the Music square. The thud-thud-thud of helicopter blades echoed across Ravenmoor’s Music Square. A gust of wind swept the plaza as the black military chopper descended. Onlookers craned their necks. Street vendors paused mid-sale. Security personnel scanned the rooftops. The helicopter doors slid open with a hiss.Clara and Hannah stepped out first, hair whipping in the wind, their eyes filled with awe. Soldiers saluted them. Every camera in the vicinity turned their way, assuming they were entourage to the man the entire city had been expecting.Jaden remained seated in the chopper.“Jaden, aren’t you coming with us?” Hannah turned back, voice barely audible over the roar.Jaden looked up slowly, calm but focused. “No. I’ve got something else to take care of.”Clara tilted her head. “You’re not joining the reception?”He smiled faintly. “I’ll catch up later. Go on.”Hannah looked as if she wanted to say more, but Clara tugged her sleeve. The two women walked into the sq

Ravenmoor's Eastern Border HighwayThe main highway leading into Ravenmoor was unrecognizable.A long stretch of it had been shut down and cleared for what looked like a military-grade ceremony. Black limousines, armored sedans, and luxury convoys lined either side of the road. The breeze fluttered through banners held by gold-plated poles, each representing one of Ravenmoor’s oldest and wealthiest families. Armed escorts stood in perfect formation, faces stern, uniforms crisp. The city’s elite had all gathered here today. At the center of it stood Williams Gravesend—draped in a custom-tailored obsidian trench coat, embroidered with silver phoenix threads, his silver hair slicked back like a blade drawn for war. His piercing eyes scanned the sky with a glint of both awe and calculation.Behind him stood several prominent figures: patriarchs, heirs, and matriarchs of the wealthiest clans in Ravenmoor. Their expressions ranged from anxious to exhilarated.“All the great families are he

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the cracked rooftop where Mr. Cooper, the chief butler of the Gravesend estate, stood with several plainclothes enforcers. Below them, the city of Ravenmoor ticked on in its usual sleepy rhythm—quiet, unimportant, and easy to overlook.A comm-link crackled in Cooper’s earpiece."The Royal Court has officially crowned the new King of War this morning,” a voice reported. “He now holds military power over over half the nation’s armed forces. They just confirmed his presence—here, in Ravenmoor.”Cooper’s brow creased. His eyes narrowed.“Ravenmoor?” he repeated aloud, puzzled. “Why the hell would someone like him come to this backwater?”It sounds almost unbelievable. He paced a step, arms folded behind his back as his thoughts ran wild. Dragon City is the political stronghold. That’s where the elites move, where power circles stay active. Ravenmoor’s nothing but farmland and forgotten streets."Sounds like a load of crap," one of his men mu

Hannah stood frozen for a moment, caught between Clara’s grip and Jaden’s silence. The way Clara tugged at her sleeve made her heart race with uncertainty, but her eyes were drawn to Jaden—calm, unreadable, standing like the chaos around him didn't exist. She couldn’t ignore it. She didn’t want to.Quietly, she pulled her hand away from Clara’s.“Hannah?” Clara blinked, startled.Hannah walked back to Jaden with soft but steady steps, offering him a nervous smile. “Jaden must be joking with us,” she said lightly, brushing her hair behind her ear. “It’s not a bad idea to just walk to the plaza anyway. We could use the air, right?”She gently took his hand, fingers curling into his with ease, and tugged him playfully. “Come on, let’s just walk together.”But Jaden didn’t budge.“The chopper is coming,” he said calmly.A low hum grew louder in the sky, and the wind shifted as if the very air was preparing to part for something grand.Clara frowned, arms crossed. “Planes pass by all the t

"How about this—" Mr. Harrison raised his key with a confident grin. “Take my car. I just made a couple of calls. You'll be at the Music Plaza in five minutes flat.”Clara and Hannah exchanged uncertain glances. Hannah narrowed her eyes slightly, obviously hesitant. Clara, meanwhile, folded her arms, lips pursed in consideration. Before either of them could respond, the low hum of a sleek black car approaching caught their attention. It slid to a stop just behind them. The passenger door opened—and Jaden stepped out, tall and relaxed, with Drax following closely behind.“Jaden!” Hannah’s eyes lit up. Without hesitation, she dashed toward him and threw her arms around him. “I finally found you!” Her voice brimmed with relief and delight. She pulled back just slightly, smiling up at him. “I wanted to properly apologize about what happened at my birthday. Stanwell… he was completely out of line.”Jaden gave her a faint nod, his voice calm. “It’s alright. I already handled it.”Behind the

Williams’ Office – Gravesend EstateInside a high-ceilinged office lined with antique books and oil paintings, Williams Gravesend stood by the window, his fists clenched behind his back. His jaw was tight, lips pressed into a thin line as he stared at the foggy city skyline. The door creaked open. Two suited men entered, their postures stiff under his scrutiny.“Well?” Williams asked without turning. His voice was low, simmering with fury. “Still no word from Cooper?”One of the men cleared his throat. “Sir… no updates yet. The kidnapper hasn’t shown. But the entire city perimeter is under lockdown—our men are stationed everywhere. There’s no way he can escape.”The second man nodded, trying to lighten the mood. “If you ask me, the bastard’s probably hiding under some sewer grate by now, shaking in his boots.”The first man chuckled. “All that arrogance… all that bravado… just a scarecrow waving in the wind.”Williams slowly turned to face them, his eyes cold and unreadable. The smil
