Nora had not expected this. Twenty years away, and this was what returning home looked like. She stood there for a moment, blinking against the sting behind her eyes, and then she nodded.
“Fine,” she said quietly, her voice thick. “Let’s go. Back to our own home.” Jaden guided his family toward the exit without another word, without looking back. Vane kept close to Nora, his hand at her back. Selena stayed at her mother’s side. None of them spoke. They were nearly at the door when Franklin Wilson stepped into their path — not to block them, but simply because their routes had crossed. He saw Jaden and moved instinctively, beginning to lower himself into a bow. Jaden gave a brief shake of his head. A single nod. That was all. Franklin straightened, and something unreadable crossed his face as he watched Jaden’s family file past him and out through the entrance. He stood still for a moment after they had gone, eyes on the doorway. Brown appeared at his shoulder, already manufacturing a smile. “Major-General Wilson, please don’t mind them. Come, let me show you to your—” “What happened to them?” Franklin asked. He didn’t look at Brown when he said it. Brown blinked. He recovered quickly and let out a small laugh. “That’s my daughter’s family. Poor commoners, all of them. We hadn’t seen each other in decades, and they showed up tonight looking for a free meal. Caused nothing but trouble, especially the son-in-law — injured my son, struck my wife in my own home. I lost patience and showed them out. Think nothing of it.” Franklin was quiet for a moment. Then he said, “I see. In that case, you should chase me out as well.” The smile froze on Brown’s face. Around him, the nearest guests went very still. Brown recovered with a nervous laugh. “Ha — you jest, Major-General Wilson. You’re our most honored guest tonight. I would never dream of such a thing.” Franklin turned to look at him for the first time. His expression was composed and entirely serious. “I’m not joking. Do you know the reason I came here tonight?” The laughter died in Brown’s throat. “I — no. Please, enlighten me.” “Because you have a good daughter,” Franklin said, “and your daughter has a respectable son-in-law.” The words fell over the hall like a stone dropped into still water. The Maxwell family exchanged glances. The guests murmured. No one seemed to know where to look. Brown felt the ground shift beneath him. His voice came out smaller than he intended. “Major-General Wilson — what do you mean by that?” Franklin’s gaze swept the room without warmth. “Your grandson-in-law, Mr. Rift, is the man I respect most. The sole reason I came tonight was because I heard he would be here.” He let that land, then continued, his tone dropping to something colder. “You just drove him out of your own home. So tell me — what exactly is the point of keeping me here?” He looked at Brown directly. “That is why I said you can chase me out as well.” Brown’s face had gone the color of ash. “I would never dare,” he said quickly. “Please, Major-General Wilson—” Franklin scoffed, cutting him off. “How would you dare.” It wasn’t a question. He straightened his uniform jacket with a short, precise motion and added, “I won’t waste further time on this. Consider it a courtesy — extended entirely on account of Mr. Rift’s connection to your family. Nothing more.”Latest Chapter
Chapter 994
“Now we are sealing up the restaurant in accordance with the law. Everyone is to leave immediately.”The moment those words fell, the entire place exploded into chaos.Customers who were still seated shot to their feet. Chairs scraped loudly across the floor. Waiters stood frozen, unsure of what to do. The luxurious atmosphere from earlier vanished in an instant.Daniella’s face turned pale.“That’s impossible!” she snapped, her voice sharp with disbelief. “Do you even know who owns this place? This restaurant belongs to General Sky! And I’m his nephew!”Marcus Wade finally turned his gaze toward her.His expression was cold. “No one is above the law.”That one sentence shut her up completely.Lolia, on the other hand, completely collapsed. Her legs gave out as she dropped to her knees with a thud. Her face was drained of all color, and her whole body trembled uncontrollably.“I’m finished… I’m really finished…” she muttered, her voice breaking. “The boss is going to kill me… He’s def

The four bodyguards froze for half a second after Daniella’s order, then snapped back to their senses and charged at Jaden with loud roars. They moved fast, clearly trained, fists aimed at his head and ribs from different angles. But to Jaden, they were slow.Too slow. Before anyone could even react, Jaden stepped forward instead of retreating. His leg whipped up.Bang! The first bodyguard took a kick straight to the jaw and spun midair before crashing into the table behind him, shattering plates and glasses.Without pausing, Jaden pivoted.Bang! Bang! Bang!Three more kicks landed clean and precise. Each strike dropped a man instantly. In less than three seconds, all four bodyguards were on the ground, either unconscious or groaning in pain, completely unable to stand. The private room fell dead silent.Daniella’s eyes widened.Lolia’s mouth hung open.Even the waiters at the door instinctively took a step back, fear creeping into their faces. No one expected this. These weren’t ordi

Chapter 991
Nora quickly stepped forward and held Selena’s arm.“That’s right,” she said anxiously.“We’re just ordinary people.”Her voice lowered as she glanced toward the door.“We can’t afford to offend people like them.”She forced a small smile.“Let’s just give her the room and leave.”Vane nodded in agreement.“It’s not worth it.”The tension in the room shifted.Selena clenched her fists. She was clearly unwilling. But she understood.People like Leon Nagger were not someone her family could go against. After a few seconds, she let out a slow breath.“Fine,” she said reluctantly.“We’ll leave.”Just as she made that decision—The door opened again. This time, it wasn’t a knock. It was a deliberate entrance.A woman walked in confidently. She was dressed in designer clothes. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor.A pair of oversized sunglasses covered half her face.Behind her stood four burly bodyguards.Their presence alone made the air feel heavier.Lolia followed closely behind
Chapter 990
Jaden and the rest of the family were caught off guard. The cheerful atmosphere from just seconds ago vanished instantly.Selena frowned, clearly confused.“What do you mean by that?”Lolia kept her posture straight, but her tone lost some of its earlier politeness.“Our VIP, Ms. Daniella, has just arrived,” she said.“She would like to use this room to entertain her guests.”She paused briefly before adding,“So I’ll have to ask all of you to leave immediately.”The words landed heavily.Selena’s expression darkened.“Excuse me?”Her voice sharpened.“I booked this room in advance.”She gestured toward the table.“We’ve already ordered, and the food is being served.”Her eyes locked onto Lolia.“And now you’re telling us to leave in the middle of our meal?”“That’s your solution?”Morganna’s temper flared as well. She leaned forward, clearly irritated.“So what you’re saying is that she’s a customer…”“And we’re not?”Lolia let out a faint, almost mocking smile. She crossed her arms

Authors note: Leah is Nora, slight error.A long silence followed. The wind rustled through the trees, brushing past the temple walls.Barbarian remained still inside the doghouse. For a while, it seemed like he hadn’t even heard Leon’s words. Then, slowly, his dry lips moved.“And who is that?”His voice was hoarse.Rough.Like something that hadn’t been used in years.Leon’s eyes darkened instantly.Hatred surged within him.“Jaden Rift.”The name was spoken through clenched teeth.Every syllable carried killing intent.Barbarian’s gaze flickered slightly. He didn’t respond. But the air around him seemed to grow colder.—The next morning.Sunlight broke through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the coastal roads.Three luxury cars sped steadily toward East Bay.Inside the main vehicle, Mia was pressed against the window, her face full of excitement.“The sea!”“I can see the sea!”Her voice rang with pure joy.Selena smiled as she watched her daughter.Nora and Vane were also in
