Now, only the morning remained. The mystery of what happened in that hotel might be solved by daybreak.
They spent the night on edge, nervously anticipating what was to come.
Throughout the night, there were numerous knocks on the door. The doorbell chimed several times, too.
Sometimes it was Mr. Parker, other times the hotel manager, and occasionally a staff member calling for them. But they never answered.
Somehow, the hours passed, and dawn broke. The sun peeked over the eastern sky, bringing with it a sigh of relief from them.
After freshening up in the bathroom, they were ready. Now, all that was left was to wait.
Soon, Mr. Parker would bring breakfast. And that’s when everything would be explained—at least, they hoped it would. The mystery of the hotel might finally have an answer.
A few moments later, the doorbell rang with a soft chime. They thought it might be Mr. Parker. Jack jumped out of bed and rushed to open the door.
When he did, a young man—about twenty or twenty-one—stood there holding a breakfast tray. His uniform and appearance made it clear he was the hotel’s boy.
“Good morning, sir,” the boy said.
“Good morning,” Jack replied. “But why you? Where’s Mr. Parker?”
At the mention of Mr. Parker’s name, the boy’s face went pale.
“What’s wrong?” Jack asked, noticing the change. “Where is Mr. Parker?”
“He’s ill,” the boy said, his voice tight. “He couldn’t come.”
“Oh! So, where can we find him now?”
“I don’t know,” the boy shook his head. He placed the tray on the table and added, “If you need anything, call the reception.” Then, he quickly turned and left.
“The boy’s lying,” Jack muttered, glancing at Max.
“I thought so too. But let’s eat first. We’ll figure this out later,” Max, replied.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
After breakfast, they stepped outside. A small crowd gathered in front of the hotel, and two police officers were talking to people.
They quickly made their way through the crowd, pushing to the front. What they saw left them speechless. Right in front of them, Mr. Parker lay motionless, his body a strange, unnatural shade of pale.
As Jack noticed the two puncture wounds on Mr. Parker’s throat, he immediately understood what happened. They learned from the hotel manager that “Mr. Parker was found on the hotel roof this morning in this condition.”
Once they finished speaking with the manager, they sat under a tree a little away from the crowd.
“What do you think?” Max asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Mr. Parker was killed by a vampire,” Jack replied quietly.
“Everything’s over,” despair rang in Max’s voice. “We’ll never solve this mystery.”
“Not yet,” a voice suddenly spoke up.
They both turned around to see the boy from the night before—the one who was by the bush near the beach.
“Hey, you?” Jack exclaimed. “Why did you run off yesterday?”
“I ran because I saw danger.”
“Danger? What kind of danger?”
The boy stayed silent.
“Alright, what’s your name?” Max asked.
“My name’s Paul Simon,” the boy answered, introducing himself. “But everyone calls me Paul.”
“Oh, I see!” Jack nodded absently. “So, Paul, what do you mean everything’s not over?”
“I know the mystery of this hotel,” Paul said, his voice steady.
“Really? What mystery?” Jack asked.
“People have been dying here every night, just like Mr. Parker.”
“Who’s behind these deaths? Do you know?”
“Vampires.”
Jack’s eyebrows furrowed. “Vampires?”
“Yes. They suck blood and kill people.”
“Where do these vampires come from?” Max asked, his voice calm, though he was clearly interested.
“Ever heard of Vampire’s Island?” Paul asked, his tone serious.
“Yeah,” Max nodded. “I’ve heard of it. So, the vampires came from there?”
Paul nodded. “That’s where they came from.”
“Have you been there?” Jack asked.
“Yeah, I went once,” Paul said, his eyes distant. “My dad used to fish with a boat around the island. One day, I went with him. I got thirsty, so he went to the island to get water. While he was there, a man dressed in a black cloak knocked him to the ground and bit him on the neck. I knew right away it was a vampire. My dad screamed, ‘Paul, run!’ I took the boat and got out of there as fast as I could.”
“God, that’s awful,” Jack said, his voice full of sympathy. “We wanted to go to that island.”
“You can’t just go there unprepared,” Paul warned.
“Then what do we need?” Jack asked.

The story of " On a Lonely Island""Through sleep, a person's brain can be controlled, allowing them to be manipulated in any way." Mr. David said. He was their new psychology teacher. Well, "new" in the sense that he had been brought in for just two weeks. Their regular teacher, Mr. Neely, had gone to New York for advanced training, which would take two weeks to complete. During that time, Mr. David would be filling in for him."A victim can be psychologically tortured in their sleep," Mr. David continued in his deep, resonant voice. "To them, it would feel completely real."The entire class stared at him, mouths slightly open as they listened to his lecture. Whether they were actually paying attention was unclear. Maybe they were just pretending—like they usually did in Mr. Thomas’s class. But from the way Archie was listening, he seemed completely engrossed. Then again, a troublemaker like him would obviously enjoy this kind of eerie topic. On the other hand, Max wasn’t enjoying th
Chapter 107: Sunset of a Struggle
“Can anyone eat the same food all the time?” Luke said, wrinkling his nose.“Do you think burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas grow on trees in this jungle, and you can just grab them whenever you want?” Jack replied sarcastically.“Did I say that?”“Then what?”“I mean, eating venison all the time isn’t exactly enjoyable. It would be nice to have something different.”“Oh! That’s what you meant.”“Yes, that’s what I meant.”“Then why are you just sitting there?” Jack pointed at a rotten tree with his hand. “Look inside that tree; you might find some caterpillars. Go ahead, dig them out and eat up.”Lily was chewing on a piece of meat. The moment Jack mentioned caterpillars, she gagged and spat it out. “Do you have to say things like that while we’re eating?” she snapped.“Alright, alright.” Jack raised his hands in surrender. “I was just joking.”“Keep your jokes to yourself,” Lily huffed, still irritated. “I caught a fish from the river,” she added, changing the subject. “I forgot about

"Luke, aren't your pants made of denim?" Jack suddenly asked."Ugh!" Luke swatted a mosquito away. Then he said, "Yeah, it's denim. Why, what's up?""Can your phone's battery be removed?""Yeah, it can.""That'll do.""What'll do?""Charging," Jack said mysteriously."Charging what?" Luke asked, confused."Ugh, just do something quickly!" Lily said impatiently, smacking her own cheek — actually swatting a mosquito. "These bloodsuckers are going to drain us dry."Ignoring Lily, Jack told Luke to take out his phone's battery. Luke fumbled in the dark and managed to remove it. "Now what?" he asked."Rub the battery's charging slot against your jeans," Jack instructed. Finally, Luke understood. As an engineering student, he felt embarrassed that such a simple idea hadn't crossed his mind. Without another word, he firmly rubbed the battery's charging slot against his pants. Though they couldn’t see in the dark, the rough scratching sound made it clear he was doing it.Jack said, "Once you'

They had been walking for quite a while. Everyone was exhausted. Suddenly, Orin dropped onto a pine log, declaring that he couldn’t go any further. The others were just as worn out, so they all decided to rest right there. They had lunch with the water and the deer meat they had with them. After a short break, they set off again."How much longer do we have to keep walking?" Lily stared at the fire. It burned brightly, its orange glow lighting up everything around it. Nocturnal animals filled the jungle with their calls, the constant noise almost deafening to Lily. She had been awake for quite a while now. Around midnight, she was supposed to wake Jack. She pulled her phone out of her pocket to check the time, but it was dead. No charge. Finally, she glanced at her wristwatch. In the dim light, she saw that it was already twelve. Just as she was about to wake Jack, she noticed him sitting on the hammock. That meant he had woken up on his own."When did you wake up?" Lily asked."Just a little while ago," Jack replied."Well, good thing you did. I was about to wake you.""Alright then, you get some sleep. I’ll keep watch."Lily wished him goodnight and lay down. Jack sat quietly on the hammock. After a while, he noticed the firewood was running low. The flames were almost out.
