Elara looked at him and realized why he was rejected.

The ice dome was cracking.

Oil and fire outside roared, melting Elara's ice from outside, while Zara's unexpected frost tried to repair it from outside. Two blues fighting one fire. The dome groaned.

Inside, Seraphine's dagger in the ground that held the dome hummed weaker, flickering. Elara's legs were broken, Kael's spine was broken. They lay in the blue water from the Stone King's tears pooling around them, steam rising.

  • The Keeper Beneath The First Kingdom

“Welcome home, my queen. I have been waiting for you.”The voice travelled up the staircase, filling the chamber with an ancient authority.Avaris stood frozen.Kael noticed the change immediately. The woman who had challenged Seris, questioned Vaelorian, and spoken of the first covenant without hesitation was suddenly struggling to remain composed.“Who is down there?” he asked.Avaris swallowed.“The first keeper.”Vaelorian shook his head. “That's impossible. The first keeper disappeared before Eryndor inherited the position.”“Disappeared?” Avaris turned toward him. “Is that what you were told?”The ancient king remained silent.Avaris looked toward the staircase.“He was not Eryndor's predecessor. He was the one who created the position of keeper. He established the first covenant and taught the original bloodlines how to share their power.”“Then why was he sealed?” Elara asked.“Because he discovered what the covenant was becoming.”The voice rose again.“Must we discuss my his

  • The Queen Who Was Erased

“I am the mother of the first Blue Lycan, and Seris stole my place in the bloodline.”The woman's declaration echoed through the chamber.Seris stood motionless, her eyes fixed on the stranger. Kael had seen his mother frightened before, but never like this. Even when the First Voice had threatened to consume her memories, she had refused to surrender. Now she looked as though she were facing something she had spent her entire existence trying to escape.“Who are you?” Kael asked. The woman turned toward him.“My name is Avaris. I was the first queen of the Blue Lycans, the woman whose blood awakened the original royal gift.”Vaelorian stepped forward.“That's impossible. The first queen was recorded as having died before the founding of the Three Bloodlines.”Avaris laughed quietly.“Recorded by whom, King Vaelorian? The same historians who erased my existence?”The ancient king said nothing.Avaris extended her hand. A blue flame appeared above her palm, but unlike the royal power K

  • Mother Of the First Blue Lycan

The face beneath the cracked crown was unmistakable.Lucen.Kael stood frozen, staring at the brother he had already mourned once. The same eyes. The same familiar features. Even the small scar near his left eyebrow was there, a mark Lucen had received during their childhood. But something was wrong. The Lucen inside the chamber had been a memory preserved by the Listener. This figure stood before them, surrounded by the power of the Silence.“Lucen?” Kael whispered. The figure smiled.“You remember me.”Kael took a step forward.Auren immediately caught his shoulder. “Don't.”“That's my brother.”“No,” Auren replied. “That's something wearing his face.”The figure laughed softly.“Always suspicious, second heir. You should have learned by now that appearances are rarely what they seem.”Kael looked at him. “What have you done with Lucen?”“Nothing. I have never needed to harm him.”“Then why are you wearing his face?”“Because you remember him. Because you loved him. And because his

  • The Child That Refused The Bargain

“I'm the part of you that never agreed to surrender.”Kael stared at the child standing inside the nameless doorway. The little boy held a wooden wolf against his chest. His blue eyes were familiar, but there was something different about them. They carried no fear of the Silence, no burden of ancient kingdoms, and no knowledge of the terrible choices that had shaped Kael's first life.He looked like someone who had never been given a reason to hate himself.“Who are you?” Kael asked. The child tilted his head. “You keep asking that.”“Then tell me what I should ask.”“Why did you leave me behind?”Kael's expression changed.Behind him, Seris covered her mouth. The Silence stood between Kael and the doorway, its colorless crown flickering.“You must not listen to him,” it warned. The child frowned. “It always says that when you're close to remembering.”Kael looked at the figure. “Move.”“No.”“I'm not asking again.”The Silence raised its hand. The nameless doorway began closing, but

  • The Part Of Me That Never Surrendered

The words struck Kael with the force of a collapsing kingdom.“Your ability to choose.”The figure beneath the colorless crown stood beyond Seris, perfectly still. It wore Kael’s face, but there was no warmth in its eyes. No anger. No uncertainty. Only the terrible calm of something that had never needed to question itself.Kael looked at his mother. “Tell me it’s lying.”Seris could not answer.“Mother.”“I wanted to protect you,” she whispered. “When you made the bargain, I believed the Silence would take your memories. I thought you would forget the covenant, the sacrifice, and everything that had happened. I did not understand what it truly wanted.”“What did it take?”“Not your decisions. Your ability to make them freely.”Elara moved closer to Kael. “That cannot be true. He has chosen every step since we found the ancient kingdom.”The figure tilted its head.“He has followed paths already prepared for him. He has resisted the First Voice because resistance was part of the barga

  • What The First Voice Detects

“If you want your mother to live, Kael, you must become the thing that even the First Voice cannot remember.”The words echoed inside Kael's mind.He stood before the original covenant, holding the black blade against his own throat. His father lay motionless at his feet, and Seris was unconscious beside the silver tree. Lucen was gone. The four currents of the covenant twisted violently above him, threatening to tear the ancient kingdom apart. And someone stood beyond the crystal.Someone whose face refused to remain in Kael's memory.“Who are you?” Kael demanded. The figure tilted its head.“You already know.”“No. I don't.”“You knew me before you learned your name. You heard me before the First Voice discovered how to speak. And when the covenant demanded a price, you chose to forget me.”The blade trembled in Kael's hand.“What did I forget?”The figure stepped closer. The vision shattered.Kael returned to the chamber beneath the Hall of Names with a strangled gasp. Elara held h
