Chapter 2: Testing Abilities
As morning approached, Tian Fan stood in front of a stack of wood prepared to cremate his mother's body. It would be the last time he saw her.
Tian Fan embraced his mother's body one last time and then removed a necklace from her neck. The necklace had an octagonal pendant with the word "Tian" written on the back and a carved dragon on the front, engulfed in flames.
"Rest peacefully in heaven, Mother. Fan'er will fulfill all your wishes and dreams. I promise, Mother," he whispered softly. "Always watch over Fan'er from above."
Tian Fan then put on his mother's necklace and proceeded to light the fire for her cremation.
Guan Yu and Guan Wei, who had been observing Tian Fan all night, were sitting inside Tian Fan's hut, cultivating their own arts.
Guan Yu slowly opened his eyes. "Younger brother, please retrieve the books from your storage pouch. I have an idea to test the child's abilities and desires."
"Sure thing," Guan Wei replied.
Guan Wei then pulled out a stack of books from his storage pouch, dozens of volumes on medical practices scattered on the wooden table in front of them.
Guan Yu called Tian Fan into the hut, and the young boy approached his masters.
"Yes, Sir?"
"Child, can you read and write?" Guan Yu asked.
"Yes, Sir."
(As I suspected.) "Good, in that case... Copy these books." Guan Yu handed Tian Fan two books, one empty and one on the basics of cultivation.
"If you get hungry, there are some dry biscuits in the basket for you to eat. Your master will meditate; don't disturb our meditation. You can continue your work now."
Tian Fan nodded in understanding and began transcribing the requested books.
In truth, Tian Fan was curious about where the food and books in front of him had come from. However, he couldn't express his curiosity because his masters had given him a task.
It didn't take long; within the time it took for three incense sticks to burn, Tian Fan had quickly finished transcribing the books. Driven by his curiosity and thirst for knowledge, Tian Fan started reading the books laid out before him.
He read the books sequentially, starting with the basics of medical practice, various medical treatments, types of medicinal plants, acupuncture techniques, and acupuncture points, along with many other books. Tian Fan only needed to read each book once, as he retained all the information in his mind.
For three days and three nights, the young Tian Fan devoured all the books. He only took short breaks to eat and sleep, dedicating the rest of his time to reading and comprehending the texts.
After finishing the reading, and out of boredom while waiting for his masters, the five-year-old Tian Fan fell asleep in his chair.
Guan Yu and Guan Wei, who had been observing Tian Fan's progress during their meditation, opened their eyes when they saw that Tian Fan had fallen asleep.
"This child is truly intelligent. He has a strong memory. Wei'er, tomorrow morning, try testing Tian Fan's memory," Guan Yu suggested with joy.
"Of course, brother. I'm also very curious about his abilities," Guan Wei replied.
The next morning, Tian Fan, who had just woken up, was surprised to see that the neatly arranged books he had transcribed had disappeared without a trace.
He also realized that his masters had completed their meditation. Tian Fan then approached his masters.
"Good morning, Sirs."
"Child, please sit," Guan Yu said, and then he pulled out food from his storage pouch.
Seeing food coming out of the small cloth bag left Tian Fan astonished and fascinated.
"Sir, this..."
"Just eat for now," Guan Yu interrupted.
Tian Fan quickly devoured his meal, driven by curiosity and the desire to get answers to his questions.
Noticing Tian Fan's curiosity, Guan Wei began to explain the function and usage of the storage pouch. He told Tian Fan that not just anyone could use such storage items, as it required the cultivation of qi to activate them.
He also explained that humans could store qi within themselves, and these individuals were called cultivators. The storage of qi within one's dantian allowed it to be used for various purposes, enhancing physical health and reaching spiritual heights.
As with the natural world acting as a vessel for qi, humans could also store qi. Tian Fan learned that these people were called cultivators, and they stored their qi in a dantian, with the capacity increasing as they advanced in cultivation.
"Fan'er, you've already read and transcribed the basic cultivation book. Now, can you explain its contents to your masters?" Guan Yu asked eagerly.
Tian Fan nodded and proceeded to explain the contents of the book to Guan Yu and Guan Wei. He began by discussing the basics of cultivation, explaining that there were several realms, each divided into three levels: early, middle, and late. The realms ranged from Black to Immortal, with Bone Levels also divided into five stages: Bronze, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Dragon.
Tian Fan then described the different levels of alchemy and what each level could create, from pills for Black Realm cultivators at Level 1 to pills for Saints and Immortals at Level 5.
Guan Yu and Guan Wei were delighted by Tian Fan's explanations.
"Well done! It turns out that you're truly a genius, young one," Guan Yu exclaimed joyfully. "To both of us, you are a real genius, indeed!"
"Child, your debt is repaid now. Your masters are releasing you from your status as a servant," Guan Wei added.
Tian Fan's eyes sparkled with excitement and gratitude. He immediately prostrated himself before Guan Yu and Guan Wei.
"Tian Fan pays his respects to his masters."
Chapter 3: Beginning of TrainingFrom the very beginning, Tian Fan had intended to become a cultivator, driven by his promise to his mother. He wanted to become strong enough to fulfill his mother's unfulfilled wishes."Fan'er, from now on, you can call us Master Yu and Master Wei," Guan Yu said. "We will teach you the skills and knowledge we possess, even though our knowledge is not extensive. At least what we teach you can serve as a foundation for your survival.""In addition, the most important thing is to use the knowledge you gain from us for the path of virtue and truth. Always remember, every person is the same; there is no difference. Act justly toward everyone, uphold the highest standards of truth, be firm when necessary, and stand on your own feet. Be a useful person, don't let yourself be used and manipulated by others," Guan Wei added firmly."A great person is one who works hard and constantly challenges themselves to progress and reach the peak, whether on the path of
Chapter #4: The Inevitable FarewellDuring the first week of Tian Fan's rigorous training, he endured it with unwavering determination, never once complaining. As the days passed, his body slowly began to adapt to the demanding regimen set before him.In the second week, Guan Yu intensified Tian Fan's training, pushing him even harder. Just as Tian Fan had grown accustomed to the previous level of exertion, he found himself facing even greater challenges. His muscles and bones were pushed to their limits, and he was tasked with running while carrying a stone three times his weight and scaling trees with a burden equal to three times his own.The third week brought yet another addition to Tian Fan's training under Guan Yu's watchful eye. This time, he was required to endure prolonged periods in the water, testing his survival skills. In the fourth week, Guan Yu raised the bar once more. Tian Fan was tasked with performing push-ups while carrying a load equivalent to ten times his body
Chapter #5: Nurturing InstinctTian Fan ventured into the Red Forest to commence his training. Following the guidance of Masters Yun and Wei, Tian Fan had been instructed to train in this forest to sharpen his instincts. In addition to honing his instincts, Tian Fan also practiced survival skills he had acquired earlier. He had been informed that, before opening his dantian, he could only stay on the forest's edge. The Red Forest was inhabited by spiritual creatures known as "beasts."These beasts were divided into various tiers, and their strength levels were akin to cultivator realms, ranging from black, fighter, earth, earth king, emperor, sky, tianzun, saint, to immortal. The connection between cultivators and beasts was significant, as many cultivators and alchemists used beast cores to enhance their power. Furthermore, the bodies of these beast creatures had value and served various purposes for cultivators.Tian Fan took his first steps into the Red Forest. After half an incens
Chapter #6: Opening the DantianTian Fan woke up, feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder. He sat up and retrieved his storage pouch, a smile forming on his face as he looked inside. It turned out that Master Wei had provided him with a variety of herbs. It seemed that Master Wei had anticipated what Tian Fan would go through during his training.Tian Fan took out a healing ointment and applied it to his shoulder wound. The pain quickly subsided, and the open wound healed rapidly.Next, Tian Fan grabbed a piece of dry bread and ate it hungrily. After satisfying his hunger, he examined the contents of his storage pouch once more.Inside, he found two sets of acupuncture needles, more healing ointment, a tool for concocting medicine, various medicinal plants, a basket of bread, some dried meat slices, and two leather pouches filled with water. Additionally, there were several books on medicine preparation and pill refinement techniques.Tian Fan placed all these items back into his storage
Chapter #7: Nature Pays Its Respect Three years had passed since Tian Fan had been living in the Red Forest. Currently, he resided in the deepest region of the forest, known for being inhabited by mid and high-level martial realm beasts. The central area of the Red Forest was dominated by earth-level and earth king-level beasts. Living in the forest had heightened Tian Fan's sensory perception and instincts. He had killed dozens of low and mid-level martial realm beasts, gaining various benefits from their carcasses. Tian Fan obtained body parts such as gallbladders, claws, bones, and hearts from these beasts, which he dried and turned into powders for medicinal use. The elemental cores of the beasts, comprised of various elements, were stored for refining pills. Their meat provided Tian Fan with sustenance, as it was rich in qi and nutrients, making it ideal for cultivators. Tian Fan also improved his medical skills during this time. He practiced herbal medicine, acupuncture, and
Chapter #8: Allies The silver wolf that had recently advanced to the earth-level realm let out a long howl, which was met with echoing howls from the other silver wolves. Its transformation upon advancing was apparent: its height had increased to two meters, and its body had grown to three meters in length. Its silvery fur had lengthened, and it now sported silver manes around its neck. Its dominating aura exerted immense pressure on Tian Fan. In response to the aura, Tian Fan had to release his own qi and even his killing intent to counteract the oppressive sensation. The combination of both auras somewhat lessened the suppression. The earth-level silver wolf began approaching Tian Fan slowly. Tian Fan stood his ground, bracing himself for a potential battle against the formidable beast. As the distance between them shrank to just a couple of spear lengths, the earth-level wolf's aura intensified, pressing down heavily on Tian Fan. He struggled to maintain his position, resisting
Chapter #9: New Training Companions The entire pack of silver wolves experienced a realm advancement after consuming Tian Fan's medicinal food. Tian Fan observed that most of the pack members were now in the early and middle stages of the fighter realm. Shandian and Rain, the pack leaders, had also reached the middle stage of the earth realm. In total, there were now two beasts at the early earth realm and the rest were fighter realm members. Tian Fan was recognized as part of the pack and regarded as one of its strongest members. He had established a bond with the wolves, and he was more than willing to assist them in becoming stronger. Over the course of six months, Tian Fan helped the entire pack advance by one realm level. With the pack's combined strength, they became the most dominant force in the deep forest. As beasts, it was natural for them to establish dominance over their territory and expand it. Tian Fan didn't mind this natural order because it also provided him with
Chapter #10: The First Human Patient Tian Fan proceeded to treat the two patients to the best of his knowledge, as it was his only option at the moment. He began by removing their clothing since their injuries were spread across their bodies. He started with the young woman, carefully taking off all her clothes. Afterward, Tian Fan used acupuncture needles to ease her pain and stop the bleeding. He administered his homemade anti-venom pills and reluctantly reopened the wound on her abdomen. The bruising around the wound indicated that it was caused by the venom of the hyena beasts. Tian Fan carefully dissected the darkened intestines, revealing bite marks on various sections. Quickly, he began flushing the affected area with a mixture of honey and medicinal herbs. Over the wound, he placed a special cloth designed to absorb any toxins released by the intestines. While waiting for the toxins to be expelled, Tian Fan tended to other wounds. For surface cuts and lacerations, he applie
