"We thought—we assumed—" Haley stammered. "The punishment of the Stormveil family. We saw it tonight. Military forces, torture, the War God's orders. We thought—"

Understanding dawned on Thomas's face, followed by more cruel amusement. "Oh, you thought WE arranged that? You thought the Wesley family commanded the War God to attack your enemies?"

"Didn't you?" Peter asked, confusion evident.

Thomas laughed so hard he had to brace himself against a chair. "Oh, that's PRECIOUS! You actually think the Wesley family can just ORDER the War God around like some servant? The War God doesn't work FOR anyone except the government! He's not some hired thug we can point at our problems!"

"But you said—" Haley protested weakly.

"I said we have CONNECTIONS," Thomas corrected, his laughter subsiding. "Connections meaning we know people who know people who might be able to get a message to him if the stars align and he's in a good mood. We don't CONTROL him, you idiots!"

Within seconds, more security guards began pouring out of the boutique's various entrances. They came from side doors, from the parking garage, from inside the main hall.Ten, fifteen, twenty—the number kept growing until Darius and Aria found themselves surrounded by what looked like a small army of black-suited security personnel.Haley's confidence seemed to return with the reinforcements. She smiled viciously, her eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction."Now let's see how tough you are when it's not just one guard, you filthy animals! You wanted to make a scene? Fine! We'll give everyone here a show they'll never forget—the sight of two worthless dogs getting the beating they deserve!""I'm actually recording this," Peter announced gleefully, holding up his phone."I want to capture every moment of your humiliation. I want to watch it again and again, seeing you two pathetic losers get destroyed. This will be my new favorite video!"The security guards closed in, forming a tigh

  • CHAPTER 52

The evening sky over Duskfort had turned a deep crimson as Darius and Aria made their way toward the city's most exclusive venue—the Grand Meridian Boutique Hotel. The towering structure gleamed with golden lights, its facade a testament to old money and new power.Tonight, it would host what was being whispered about as the social event of the season: a banquet thrown by the Wesley family to showcase their dominance over Duskfort's elite."So the mayor wanted to meet you," Aria said as their car pulled up to the ornate entrance. "Interesting timing."Darius's expression remained impassive as he gazed at the boutique's grand entrance, where luxury vehicles were depositing elegantly dressed guests. "Franklin Hayes has always been a political opportunist. He probably heard rumors about the War God visiting Duskfort and wants to position himself accordingly.""Does he know it's you?""Not yet," Darius replied, stepping out of the car. His simple black suit was understated compared to the

Darius stood over the assassin's corpse, his expression unreadable as he studied the foam still bubbling from the dead man's lips. The acrid smell of cyanide hung in the air of his new villa, mingling with the metallic scent of blood. Beside him, Aria wiped her blade clean with practiced efficiency, her face as cold as winter frost."Amateurs," she muttered, nudging one of the other bodies with her boot. "Whoever sent these dogs didn't think much of us."Darius pulled out his phone, the screen illuminating his sharp features in the dim light. With quick precision, he snapped several photos of the dead assassins—their faces, their weapons, the tattoos marking their organization. His fingers moved across the screen, forwarding the images to a secure contact."Let's see who's foolish enough to send trash like this to my doorstep," he said quietly, his voice carrying an edge that could cut steel. They didn't have to wait long. Within minutes, Darius's phone buzzed with an incoming message

He cut himself off, realizing he'd said too much."Wesley," Darius repeated softly. "The Wesley family from the provincial capital. S-ranked nobility. Connected to the Ward and Reksar families. That makes sense."The assassin's face had gone pale, realizing his mistake. "I didn't say anything. You can't prove—""I don't need to prove anything," Darius interrupted. "I just needed confirmation. Thank you for that.""Wait!" The assassin's defiance crumbled into panic. "Wait, I can tell you more! I can give you details! Names, locations, how many others are coming! Just—just let me go! Please!""Interesting," Darius observed. "Thirty seconds ago you were playing the silent martyr. Now you're begging. Which is the real you, I wonder?""I have a family!" The assassin's voice rose desperately. "A wife, two kids! I was just doing a job! I didn't know who you were! If I'd known—""You'd have come anyway," Darius finished coldly. "For the money. Don't pretend this was anything but business."He

Darius moved like death itself—silent, inevitable, and utterly without mercy. His hand shot out from the shadows, catching the second assassin's throat in an iron grip before the man could even gasp. The other hand grabbed the assassin's weapon hand, twisting the wrist at an angle that made the suppressed pistol point harmlessly away. The assassin's eyes went wide with shock and terror, his mouth opening to shout a warning—but Darius's grip on his throat was already crushing his windpipe, cutting off all sound except a faint, wet gurgle. The struggle lasted less than five seconds.Darius applied precise pressure to the carotid arteries, cutting off blood flow to the brain. The assassin's eyes rolled back, his body went limp, and then Darius gave one final, brutal twist.CRACK.The sound of the assassin's neck breaking was barely louder than a twig snapping. Darius lowered the body to the floor with careful silence, making sure the pistol didn't clatter against the tiles. One down.Ups

  • CHAPTER 48

Thomas Wesley paused at the doorway, turning back one more time as if remembering something important."One more thing," he said, his tone shifting to something more businesslike. "Tomorrow night, you'll be hosting a banquet. A grand one. Invite every notable family in Duskfort—A-ranked, B-ranked, all of them.""A banquet?" Peter looked confused. "Why tomorrow? We haven't even—""Because the Wesley family's reputation is on the line," Thomas interrupted sharply. "Word has spread about your humiliation. People are talking. They're saying the families associated with Wesley are weak, that we can't even control our own territory. That's UNACCEPTABLE.""So we host a banquet to show strength," Haley said, understanding dawning."Exactly," Thomas confirmed. "You'll display wealth, power, confidence. You'll show everyone that the wedding incident was nothing—a minor disruption that's already been dealt with. You'll make it clear that the Ward and Reksar families are stronger than ever, backe
